For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Well, it's up to you, but they are very acidic, and it's acidic things that can irritate. Pineapples gives ds2 a right sore bum.

Ffs, I feel like the child snatcher in chitty chitty bang bang. Except I am loading all the fun stuff up while you look on forlornly. Cheese', cheese, come here little cheeses, and ooh, is that a sweet little orange behind you..'.

Boco · 24/01/2009 10:39

franny, dd1 got eczema really badly at about 9 months, and she didn't have any kind of antibiotic until she was 3. Hers disappeared a couple of years ago and now she doesn't get it at all. DD2 had antibiotics A LOT, but didn't get bad eczema until last year. I've never come close to working out what caused it in either of them - dd2 had it for a few months and it was horrid and got infected, but it's 90% gone now. Not sure if I have a point there.

Guad will be central, just me and dd2, how about pulse, we could sit on sofas.

FrannyandZooey · 24/01/2009 10:55

well she made baked potatoes, baked beans, home made coleslaw and baked apples with nuts and raisins when we went to hers
i was thinking of doing oatcakes, pate, green salad, potato salad and ??? was going to do a rice salad but the best ones i know are with pesto or citrus dressing

Mmm, that sounds absolutely delicious!

I was never very good at wheat dairy free cakes tbh. I made quite a lot of flapjack with fruit.

mollyroger · 24/01/2009 11:52

www.wheat-free.org/fruit-cake.html nice stodgy fruit cake but you would need to buy wheat-free flour (whatever the heck that is!)]]

or this - if you substituted marge for soya marge

FrayedKnot · 24/01/2009 12:14

Hello

I think I might be ill. I ate some muesli as usual this mornign but afterwards thought maybe it wasn;t a good idea.

Anyway, don;t think I will be making 10 today.

SB if you find anything that works for your nails, please let me know. Mine are dreadful. I just knocked the tops off two this morning.

I ahve a lemon cake recipe which doesn;t use flour, just ground almonds. You could defnitely adapt and avoid the lemon if necessary, and use something else. Apple or pear? You would have to use a spread to make it..isn;t there a sunflower "Pure" one?

FrannyandZooey · 24/01/2009 13:20

FK hope you feel better
thanks all for cake suggestions - she can't have soya either molly! but am thinking i may just forget it and do nice fruit instead

I have had the most productive - and fun - day!

I borrowed a proper machete scimitar thingy and have completely decimated a 10-ft buddlia in the front garden and had a bonfire.

I felt like indiana jones hacking my way through the jungle.

FrannyandZooey · 24/01/2009 16:23

coo that does sound fun molly
were you dressed for part?

SuperBunny · 24/01/2009 17:20

My DS sometimes asks for BM and he hasn't been BF since he was about 18 months. I keep telling him it ran out but he still wants to try. No idea why as we do not have a new baby. He is fascinated by other babies though and will often loudly say "Look at the baby. He drinks milk from him mummy's nipples"

Forgot to thank everyone for nail suggestions -will see what I can find and will report back.

Franny, make bean salad. I have a v good one if you want the recipe.

Off for run

mind you my plate is HEAPED

i thought of something else the annoying herbalist said
she gave me some cream for thrush a while back and this week she asked if it had worked
it hadn't, but me being kind (this was before she really hacked me off) said "oh well I think it eased it a bit, but i zapped it with some canesten in the end as i was desperate for it to go"

she TUTTED a great bug TUT

I wanted to say "listen you quack i had THRUSH and your cream DID NOT WORK and I wasn't paying ANOTHER NINE NINETY FIVE so i could carry on itching for another week"

i need closure on this don't i?

mollyroger · 24/01/2009 17:50

oh Franny, you really are copping for everything at the mo, aren't you!

No, I wasn't dressed for the part. In fact I must have looked bloody odd. Black leggings, red flowery curtain material dress (YOU KNOW THE ONE i MEAN gUAD...), chunky boots and hair in a scruffy pigtail. The builders next door were most amused.
One asked me if I had a licence...I innocently said ''I don't need a licence, surely''
and he replied ''That's a man tool. You're a girl. You need a special licence love, for using Man Tools''.
Ha. Ha. Then I smiled sweetly and said. ''But I have a machete. And PMT. Wanna press the licence thing further...?''

LOL Molly

Simple three bean salad for simpletons

Ingredients

1 15-oz can cannellini beans, rinsed and drained
1 15-oz can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
1 15-oz can garbanzo beans, rinsed and drained
2 celery stalks, chopped fine
1/2 red onion, chopped fine
1 cup fresh, finely chopped flat-leaf parsley
1 Tbsp fresh finely chopped rosemary
1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup olive oil
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Method
1 In a large bowl, mix the beans, celery, onion, parsley and rosemary.
2 In a separate small bowl, whisk together the vinegar, sugar, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Add the dressing to the beans. Toss to coat.
3 Chill beans in the refrigerator for several hours, to allow the beans to soak up the flavor of the dressing.
Serves 4 to 8.

Four different people have asked for this recipe - I don't think it's all that amazing but it is very good (if you like beans)

FrannyandZooey · 24/01/2009 18:14
