For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Yes, grapefruit count! That wasn't a stupid question.

Guadalupe · 03/01/2009 21:50

My name is Guadalupe and I am an island.

I do not have a drink problem.

I have, however, failed and consumed two gin and tonics and am on my second glass of chablis. I didn't think of that 2nd or 3rd day thing. Actually I felt a bit shit after the first one but feel alright now. Haven't had any wheat, butter, cheese or chocolate though so not a complete failure.

I can't do the stones justice in words. You must all ask for one for your birthday. She seemed to place a hot stone on every vertebrae before massaging my legs and it was extraordinarily comforting having the weight there. Close to the end she put two large hot stones in my hands and it was very bizarre, like I'd been waiting a long time to have stones in my hands and I felt I could throw them a long way like a shotput. She tried to take them at the end but I wouldn't let go. I was half asleep by then and she had to tug them quite hard.

SuperBunny · 03/01/2009 21:50

And half a grapefruit is 1 portion.

SuperBunny · 03/01/2009 21:52

Mmmm, gin. I think you have done very well to avoid cheese, butter, wheat and chocolate.

LOL @ holding onto the stones. Sounds wonderful. I will ask for one for my birthday. Only 12 months to wait

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 03/01/2009 21:59

I love a g&t, I haven't had one for ages. I think I'll have to get some Gordons or Beefeater next week - it's made from juniper berries after all

Guadalupe · 03/01/2009 22:01

Yes, we must count it as a portion.

I like Hendricks or Bombay meself, with fever tree tonic and a dash of lime.

NotanOtter · 03/01/2009 22:01

franny those second beans are runner beans!

trying to get the hang of this ...am i not supposed to eat white bread??

am also RUBBISH at eating fruit so can i eat more veg?

tinned tomatoes (??? i hope they count)
baked beans (am i clutching at straws )

rocket half a bag
cucumber
tomato
celeriac
carrot
pumpkin seeds
2 clementines

Guadalupe · 03/01/2009 22:02

Superbunny - did we know it was your birthday? Did I wish you happy birthday?

Guadalupe · 03/01/2009 22:04

NAO - beans count as one portion, so do tomatoes. You can eat white bread, everyone else does.

I might steal it off you though and cover it in butter and marmite. I am consigned to rye with olive spread and it aint the same.

NotanOtter · 03/01/2009 22:07

Guadalupe thankyou

sadly whatever i cut back on it is never bread and i only eat bread with.......butter

SuperBunny · 03/01/2009 22:18

What is fever tree tonic?

Baked beans count. And tinned tomatoes.

Yes, my birthday was acknowldged, thank you. There was cake and cards and a balloon and everything.

I do not eat white bread.

SuperBunny · 03/01/2009 22:20

Argh, I'm so fecking sleepy. I have to go out in an hour but just want to sleep. What can I do to wake myself up? No caffeine in the house and I've done my hair so can't have a shower.

FrayedKnot · 03/01/2009 22:32

Apple
Satsuma x 2
Melon
Red cabbage & carrot coleslaw
Pepper & sweetcorn bake
Raw carrot

I am trying to eat as much of my f&v raw as possible.

The hot stone thing sounds wonderful, Guad. I had a massage for my b'day but not with the stones. It was good but stones sounds even better.

FrayedKnot · 03/01/2009 22:34

Open all the windows?

FrayedKnot · 03/01/2009 22:37

I KNEW I'd forgotten something at the supermarket! Grapefruit!

sb - sugar wakes me up
or run cold water on your wrists

i want hot stones for my birthday

nao you can eat what you want, read the op for suggestions
guad is just giving up wheat as it doesn't agree with her

SuperBunny · 03/01/2009 23:08

Cold water on wrists - good idea. Will do that, thanks.

Also have peppermint tea. No idea if it will help. Sugar won't help with getting less lardy so can't do that. My back fat wobbles when I run . Is this middle age?

pinkspottywellies · 04/01/2009 00:07

Guad Hot stones sound marvellous, I will ask for my birthday.

Franny, where on earth are you getting runner beans at this time of year? I love them with butter and pepper on thier own. A huge bowl

I've been Out tonight to the Pub with Grown Ups. Again!! I'm making the most of it cause in 7 weeks time (or a bit longer) I will never sleep again

Hello and goodnight everyone. I shouldn't be on tomorrow as I'm clearing out the baby's room. If I do appear then please question me firmly as to why. I may be skiving

TinyWhiteFeather · 04/01/2009 03:13

Am intrigued by Hot stones Guad.

Am intrigued by anything that would help me relax and therefore sleep!

Part of my Fibromyalgia means that if my arms are bent for any length of time, they go 'numb' and tingly and painful, and it wakes me up endlessly in the night. Short of strapping my arms to my side, I am not sure what I can do.

Dunno SB, when does 'middle-age' start? (frowns) You are younger than me, so am I already there? For me it just meant I hadn't lost all the weight I needed to.
Someone informed me my weight loss has now taken me past 'attractiveness'! Am I hyper sensitive or was that a bit of a crap thing to say?
Don't actually care though. I am still in the healthy weight zone and feel fabulous!

TooTicky · 04/01/2009 07:17

Feather, what were you doing up at such a ridiculous hour?

TooTicky · 04/01/2009 07:23

Ooh, we have an otter as well as a bunny and a lemur

O, we don't have an otter. So, what are you if that is not a rude question?

SB, you are not lardy, silly girl. Or middle aged. Tut.

Feather, yes, that was a crap thing to say

TooTicky · 04/01/2009 07:45

I appear to have dropped a size. I need to go charity shopping for new jeans. When I get a chance. Ha.

TooTicky · 04/01/2009 08:08

And anyway Feather you are gorgeous.

Where is everybody?

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 04/01/2009 08:34

I'm here

I have woken up with a headache and I've got my family coming over en masse today - aarrggghhh.

I had a pink grapefruit for breakfast today and it was lovely. It was perfectly sweet and sharp.

Guad - I didn't realise they've been putting shitty sweeteners in tonic water as well. You can't seem to pick up much these days without scrutinising the labels for sweeteners.
