For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I need someone to TELL me what to do.

E is asleep again, temperature 100.1. Her breathing isn't too bad but a bit fast. She's been really drowsy all day.

Do I give her the antibiotics and steroids?

Against
They give her an upset tummy and she loses her appetite for a couple of weeks each time she takes them, she's had so much of it lately - 3 lots in only a short time. Her breathing isn't worse, it's if anything slightly better.

For.
She now has a temperature, although breathing better, she's more ill in herself, floppy and sleepy. Pneumonia each time has come on fast and if we're heading that way then it feels like quite a risk to take.

What shall I do? [pathetic]

FrannyandZooey · 11/12/2008 17:55

boco i am so sorry i have no idea
i was talking to a friend earlier and we were saying that every decision you make as a mother is so laden with guilt
is there a medical person you could ask advice of? nhs direct?

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 11/12/2008 17:55

Boco Love, I have to be honest I think I would give her the antibiotics this time as each time she is poorly her poor little body struggles more to fight back, as she improves and you hopefully get a bit of a break, maybe try and come up with an alternative game plan ( as I am sure you have tried).
Under normal circumstances it is a lot of AB's but these don't sound like normal circumstances. Maybe this lot will be the boost she needs to really start getting a bit better.
I know it is a hard decision to make but don't be hard on yourself.

Hugs and support.........xx

SuperBunny · 11/12/2008 18:26

Boco, I would give them too

I've been thinking about the Lurkers. I don't really understand why. What is the point of lurking on this thread? Surely it is like watching a rather mundane soap opera with occasional mentions of quinoa?

Veg chili with quinoa

SuperBunny · 11/12/2008 18:28

Oh, yesterday I only ate F&V, nowt else and today I feel great.

Is it just coincidence? Or was it the 5 bananas? Or because I didn't eat refined carbs? Or dairy?

FrannyandZooey · 11/12/2008 18:51

bunny, how come mundane soap operas are most popular shows on tv? and they don't even have occasional mentions of quinoa

Give then to her, Boco, you won't forgive yourself if she gets ill quickly. As soon as she's better do everything you can to investigate/prevent further cases but for now I think she probably needs them.

I don't recommend pink cheese on toast, especially not with tomato and spring onion. It was like eating a harlequin.

littlerach · 11/12/2008 20:11

What is pink cheese

Boco, I'd give them to her. Get some of that drink with the bacteria in and that might help her stomach.

Dd2's nativity play was lovely.
Actaully, it was bloody brilliant, the staff are fab. And dd2 sang (loudly) and waved. She looked so small though.

Peppers and carrots andtomaotes.

Guadalupe · 11/12/2008 20:18

It appeared in our box from the farmer's market, dh must have liked the look of it. I don't know what makes it pink. I think it's natural.

littlerach · 11/12/2008 20:20

Sounds interseting, I think dd2 would like that.
She always asks for "berry" cheese, which is usually stilton and cranberry, as she likes th ecolour

Boco · 11/12/2008 20:21

Thanks for opinions.

I have always given her the yoghurty drinks with the antibiotics, and baby lacido stuff, but she still get upset tummy and goes off food.

I've decided that she's well enough tonight that I'll decide in the morning. If it's a bad night i'll give them to her. She didn't eat dinner and had upset tummy so really didn't want to give her steroids on an empty stomach. Her breathing is ok. I had decided to give them but then dp came home and he felt very strongly that we shouldn't, which made me more convinced that we should - but eventually we've agree to wait and see what kind of night she has. She's dosed up on nurofen and paracetamol, beclamethasone, salbutamol and a singulair tablet to see her through tonight - it's horrible really.

I just found out that one of my Benny the bear books is published in hard back in Japan! They've sent me a copy. I'm big in Japan!

SuperBunny · 11/12/2008 20:27

Hope she has a better night, Boco. Wow @ being famous in Japan. Is there a link to Benny Bear?

Boco · 11/12/2008 20:29

Well, famous a huge exaggeration, but first time Benny has gone hardback. I've got copies of him in arabic, portugese, french, german and spanish.

SmilesLikeNoOther · 11/12/2008 20:40

Lurkers on this thread....I think...

It is because we are the epitomy of all things lovely about being female...the support and nurturing, gentle ribbing and openness. Opinions without judgement and yet a place for strong characters to shine and the more sensitive ones to cast their gentle glow.
It is a slice of humanity at its very best.

IMO.

Bloody good show about books Boco....you should know you were part of my inspiration in getting my arse into gear show back on the road....thank-you.

FrannyandZooey · 11/12/2008 20:41

Boco
sorry to miss so much, I would give the ABs, think waiting until the morning sounds sensible, but maybe check her in the night?

Lots of catching up to do! LOL at SBs view of the thread, but can't believe people would lurk and plough through the whole thing?

Franny - sorry re windwo cleaner, we had a plumber. I thought he was fab until he started telling me that people spoke to him out of the microwave I got scared to be alone in the house

but he wasn't shagging into horses or hunky or anything confusing like that, I was just a little in love with him because he was a good plumber [how very sad is that emoticon]

FrayedKnot · 11/12/2008 20:56

for Boco

I hope things go OK tonight.

I have something called Pure Potion which is just a very soothing balm in a little pot, from Health Food shop, which I put on DS' face when it gets sore. It always happens in the winter. I also use it on my eczema. I'm sure you could get something similar.

FrayedKnot · 11/12/2008 21:01
