For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I loved the festive titles.

This one is great, but we must have I saw three pips and the mango one too

Don't be silly, neither of you were.

TooTicky · 03/12/2008 22:07

Please wish dd1 luck. She has decided that as noone likes her anyway (I think actually that this is untrue) she is Going To Be Herself at school. Part of this seems to involve crocheting at break tomorrow. It may also involve vegan evangelicism, I'm not sure.

TooTicky · 03/12/2008 22:09

Oh, and she is having her hair cut on Friday and is then going to henna it black. We did a sam,ple snippet and, if artificial light is to be trusted, there may be a hint of dark green.

Really? What colour did you start with? And what sort of henna?

FrayedKnot · 03/12/2008 22:34

I have dark hair (if you can remember from meet up that's my natural colour) and henna in my teens just gave me a slightly red tinge - barely noticeable.

I did it again recently and it was more obvious but I think that's because I have scattered grey hairs now

What colour is DD1's hair TooT? Is it light brown?

Can I just say NO-ONE was socially clunky at the meet up. So stop it, all of you.

FrayedKnot · 03/12/2008 22:37

PS please tell DD1 I always had the utmost admiration for the girsl at school who were "themselves"

In my day this involved being veggie, wearing fingerless gloves and liking The Smiths.

The herd was into Wham, you see.

TooTicky · 04/12/2008 00:08

Her hair used to be brownish but two years ago she henna-ed with bright copper henna and her hair seems to have stayed orangeish. So, with the indigo tendencies of black henna.....

Ah well, we'll see. I think she has hit the individual stage quite early.

TooTicky · 04/12/2008 00:10

I used to henna my hair a lot - think it doesn't suit me now. I do occasionally go and gaze at a packet of non-chemical purple dye though...

TooTicky · 04/12/2008 00:13

I'm not having a good evening. Dd2 got up wailing (for the 7th night in a row) and won't sleep and just wants to bf endlessly which feels more and more like chewing. Oh, and she has a sore bum and cold feet and the moans and groans. I'd quite like to scream. Loudly. And have a day off.

SuperBunny · 04/12/2008 02:06

FMF, please don't blame yourself. My friend's 3 yr old DD is being assessed for social anxiety tomorrow at a children's psychiatric unit. My friend was telling her DD that she was going to meet with some people to make her feel less uncomfortable in groups. Her DD said, "Yes mum but when are you going to see someone to make YOU feel less uncomfortable" My friend didn't really know what to say because her DD has a good point. But her DD is v lovely and I am quite sure your boys are too. I do feel for your DS though. It's tricky to try and make friends when you don't really know how and your friend-making tactics push people away.

I used to Henna my hair. I blame my Polish genes - Polish women all have Hennaed hair. I wouldn't know where to buy it now that the Body Shop is off-limits.

Toot

We had Yule/ xmas day today, so:

Borscht
Mushroom wellington
Grapes
Roast carrots & parsnips
a sprout (traditional)

Maybe 6? Felt like much more.

SB, that sounds like an astute 3yo!
My Polish friend hennas her hair, I never knew there was a connection. I haven't seen her for years

Franny, I hope your day gets better.

Ds1 now has fevery hotness but seems well in himself. Ds2 still a bit hot and wailing "faker" in a desperate kind of way at ds1. Dd2 still miserable and shrieky and coughing. It's been a week now.

I want to go oooooooouuuuuutttttttt!

I am having to wear my jeans with enormous holes because dd2 weeed on me last night and it has messed up my system. I regret to say that I was cross with her

Oh, I have just realised there are Christmassy faces

mangolassi · 04/12/2008 10:28

Thanks all for soupy help. I am venturing to the market in a minute to look for likely vegetables.

I think the socially clunky kids at school are the ones who end up doing interesting things with their lives, but that can't be much consolation when you're 8. Or 13.

Yes it does get cold here, we're in northern mountains rather than southern beaches. It gets a bit frosty and I know you all have snow now, but we have no heating. And I realised this week I actually don't own proper shoes, only flip flops.

f+v:
coconut 2 apples pomegranate
kale carrots
maybe an amazing veggie soup??

filthymindedvixen · 04/12/2008 10:41

''In my day this involved being veggie, wearing fingerless gloves and liking The Smiths.''

lololo This was ME!
Didyou all have a second-hand old man's overcoat? Doc Martin boots? Bit too much on the old black eye liner perhaps? A penchant for spiky fringes..? And boys with Cheekbones?

(Feels bit monty pythone-esque...Yes. We are all individuals...)

filthymindedvixen · 04/12/2008 10:43

I am at work cancelling a zillion appointments on other people's behalf because i am the only one who made it in bcecasue of snow. Pah!
And DH is out sledging with boys who have no school (yay! You've never seen jubilation like it this morning when we heard the news )

Guadalupe · 04/12/2008 11:13

We haven't got snow. It's bloody cold though.

filthymindedvixen · 04/12/2008 11:26

oh I feel conned now. Was loads and loads of snow this morning and now it's drizzling

littlerach · 04/12/2008 12:10

Can I join the henna club?
My hair is thick and curly when natural, so add in the orange henna and it stood out a lot!
I got mine from an asian suoermarket. |Used to stink and i keft it on all night.

I had an old army overcoat to wear.
And steel toe caps

And i ma only 5'1!!

Cold and windy here.
No snow

TigerFeet · 04/12/2008 12:44

Hahaha @ veggie smiths lover - that was me and my mates. We would all sit together in the canteen, being different but all looking exactly the same . I remember a lot of cheesecloth tops and long flowery skirts too [wistful sigh]. Littlerach I had a surplus army parka thing - pinched from my brother who is considerably broader of shoulder than me - I must have looked ridiculous. My sister is 17 and currently wears fingerless gloves and listens to the smiths (as well as MCR which seems to be the noughties equivalent) and sits in the corner of the canteen with her mates, all being different but looking the same. Good genes will out. In a couple of years she will discover weed and Pink Floyd and my work will be complete.

FMV passing my social crappiness on to dd is one of my worst fears - compounded by dh being quite people phobic outside of work and immediate family. I do see a lot of me in her - it's that old nature/nurture chestnut isn't it? I do think that personality types aren't just down to upbringing. Funnily enough I didn't really find my niche until I went to college and found the fingerless glove brigade. I do hope that dd doesn't have to wait that long, but I do think that most people find like minded people to chat to eventually .

No snow here, rain this morning so not cold enough (obv)
