So the lump in my breast is sadly not a figment of my imagination.

i have been putting off going to the doctors about it, i cancelled appt twice then went and told her about other stuff instead
so i went yesterday, and she said yes there is a lump which is suspicious and neat?, now i am liking the neat bit but not really keen on suspicious.
so i have been refered to the hospital where steve had all his treatment, i will get an appointment within 2 weeks.
it is going to be a long two weeks i think.
does anyone know how long i will have to then wait for the results of the tests, will they tell me straight away?

I don't know I'm afraid, but bumping for someone who does.

Boco · 04/11/2008 09:20

Oh no OJ, not what you need at all. So sorry. I'm afraid I have no idea, but I hope your mind is put at ease as quickly as possible.

AlcoAnon · 04/11/2008 09:21

I don't know but am sure someone will have some experience.

You and your dcs have been through so much already. I have my fingers crossed for you

guyFAwkesreQuiem · 04/11/2008 09:23

oh dear - can't help on how long it will take - but fingers crossed it's nothing too serious.

Lemontart · 04/11/2008 09:25

oh no I am so sorry you are going through this awful wait. I have no helpful info re the timing and schedule of these things. I hope that the "within" part means that it is much sooner than 2 weeks. So sorry I don?t have anything practical to tell you.
Bumping to keep the thread up high

judgenutmeg · 04/11/2008 09:25

Well that's a complete pain in the arse isn't it! Flipping heck.

OJ, my breast lumps have always been 'neat' and that was a good thing in my case. I think that 'messy' lumps are of more concern generally.

Wishing you luck and sending you love.

WayneAteASlob · 04/11/2008 09:27

Of fckety-fck OJ, you could do without this.

Sending positive vibes your way.

WayneAteASlob · 04/11/2008 09:28

(what the hell happened there???? That'll teach mean to try and * out parts of swear words!!!)

sfxmum · 04/11/2008 09:29

hi OJ sorry to hear it is so stressful

I had this earlier in the summer and was referred to specialist hospital and was seen within 2 weeks (Royal Marsden)

on the day I had a mammogram, painful and uncomfortable, but lovely tech. I was not aware I would be having this, silly me

when the doctor came to pick me up from the waiting room she turned to me and said
'I don't believe it is serious, thought I would mention as you are probably worrying'
I could have kissed her

then went into room she examined me took some cells with needle for investigation, she told me almost 100% was a fibroadenoma

I waited about 90mins (went for coffee with sis) then results were back all clear saw consultant who examined me again reviewed everything and discharged me

best of luck I will not say don't worry because honestly I could never do that

xxx

zzzzSLEEPWONTCOMEzzzz · 04/11/2008 09:30

Fingers crossed for you

hippocampus · 04/11/2008 09:30

My sister had this last year, we spent the whole morning in the hospital, but scan and test results were given there and then (she was clear)It was good to get it all over and done with. Hope your situation turns out to be similar.

OJ. So sorry to hear this. I think how long you wait depends on the facilities / how they choose to investigate. I had a lump investigated while pregnant with DD1 at a breast unit at an NHS london hospital and had an examination, ultrasound and results all within a few hours (would have had a mammagram but was pg). Obviously would have taken longer if they had done a biopsy if I'd needed one but I think they would have done it the same day. I do hope you have equally good care and results (mine was fine). Maybe ask your GP whether your hospital (or another nearby one - remember you're entitled to "shop around") offers this "one stop shop" type service?

ssd · 04/11/2008 09:35

bumping for you oj, hope its nothing serious

Buda · 04/11/2008 09:37

Oh OJ. I am sorry you are having to deal with this. Fingers crossed for you that it is nothing.

Marina · 04/11/2008 09:37

OJ, I think after all you have been through - and I'm sure your GP will agree - that if ever a woman deserved to be fast-tracked through the system on this occasion it is you. I hope the appointment comes through really soon and wishing you all the luck in the world XXX

onlyjoking9329 · 04/11/2008 09:38

thankyuo for your replies.
it will be helpful to get results on the same day.
i have had two lumps removed befor which were both fibroadenomas, they were soft and a bit tender, my first one was in my 20s and second one in my 30s, this is hard but not tender.
i do not know my family hence i dont know any info on there medical history.

right, should i be worried or pleased that i have been sent an appt today and i only went to the doctors yesterday?

mrsgboring · 04/11/2008 09:42

I got seen on a one-stop shop too. They took cells from the lump with a needle (completely painless, amazingly) and they were analysed within the hour. Had an ultrasound and all results were given on the spot.

I really hope it all goes well for you.

sfxmum · 04/11/2008 09:44

I got the same OJ it is good practice part of the target thing to be seen within 2 weeks

targets sometimes not a bad thing

OrmIrian · 04/11/2008 09:45

Oh oj

Not what you need.

OJ they don't mess about when it comes to breast lumps. I was seen within a week too.

giddly · 04/11/2008 09:46

OJ - I wouldn't read anything into the timing - I think it's partly to do with Gov targets. I also got a really quick appt and the GP (correctly) didn't think mine particularly sinister.

Marina · 04/11/2008 09:46

Pleased, oj. I have two women friends who were seen this fast. One was under more than average pressure at home (newly single mum with two small children), one was not. One was given the all-clear on the day, one was given an immediate dx, superb holistic treatment (clinical and pastoral) and has had successful treatment. Don't read too much into the speed - it's bound to be your GP considering your needs as a human being and a mum XXX
