So the lump in my breast is sadly not a figment of my imagination.

i have been putting off going to the doctors about it, i cancelled appt twice then went and told her about other stuff instead
so i went yesterday, and she said yes there is a lump which is suspicious and neat?, now i am liking the neat bit but not really keen on suspicious.
so i have been refered to the hospital where steve had all his treatment, i will get an appointment within 2 weeks.
it is going to be a long two weeks i think.
does anyone know how long i will have to then wait for the results of the tests, will they tell me straight away?

It has to be ok because lightning can't strike twice can it? I'm glad you are getting seen soon, hopefully they will set your mind at rest. Good luck.

Mummylinfawkesoff · 04/11/2008 11:37

squeaver · 04/11/2008 11:41

Sorry I can't help, OJ but just wanted to wish you lots of strength.

Merlin · 04/11/2008 11:47

Sorry to hear this OJ, sending you loads and loads of good luck vibes. Sure everything will be OK.

LilRedWG · 04/11/2008 11:51

Oh OJ, pants! I've just seen this.

WRT how quick you get your results, it depends on the hospital:

I had a lump surgically removed in Birmingham and had to go back in three weeks for the results.

I had a fine needle biopsy in Warwickshire and had to go back a week later for the results, but they called me the morning of my appointment and said that everything was okay, just another cyst, and not to worry about going in.

I had a lump examined in Worcestershire a year or so ago and it was another cyst, so they drained it off (yeuck) and sent me home knowing everything was fine. They also told me that I would not have left the hospital that day until they had told me exactly what it was if they had not been able to drain it. I received my appointment time on the same day as seeing my GP and was seen at the hospital within a few days.

I think I now have another one brewing so may be trundling back to the hospital soon.

FWIW, I have always been told that if the lump is smooth and neat then it is more than likely a cyst as apparently cancerous tissue isn't as tidy, but as you know I'm no medical professional, I just have had an impressive collection of lumps, which have always been smooth and hard.

I'm so sorry to read this OJ.
I know this seems a silly thing to ask but have you lost a lot of weight lately.I only ask because a friend found a neat lump too.She had appointment through very fast too.She went to a one stop clinic and had the all clear the same day.She had lost lots of weight and was told this may have had something to do with it.

Wishing you luck.

Fllightthebluetouchpaper · 04/11/2008 12:10

In the sense that you can feel things differently if you aren't so padded out?

That might make sense OJ if you haven't been eating too well due to everything that's happened.

Hoping you are Ok pet x

whispywhisp · 04/11/2008 12:26

Oh OJ....sending you lots of love.xxxx

EachPeachPearMum · 04/11/2008 12:30

Oh OJ- words fail me. I am thinking of you and your family.

bellavita · 04/11/2008 13:04

Keeping my fingers crossed for you OJ xxxx

BlaDeBla · 04/11/2008 13:14

I hope your appt goes well, OJ. They can do things very very quickly. They said to me not to look up anything and to try not to worry about it until they knew what was going on. It was good advice!

HuwEdwards · 04/11/2008 13:15

dear god OJ, just how much more can be expected from you? My positive thoughts are beamed in your direction.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 04/11/2008 13:46

oh bollocks oj

Sorry sweet. x

Elibean · 04/11/2008 13:53

God, OJ, I'm sorry you have this kind of stress to deal with now. I've had several lumps, and different kinds of experiences depending on where I've been at the time - ranging from fast, and results same day (fairly common now, I think, esp with one-stop places obviously) and week long wait for biopsy results (ugh).

Mine were all ok, some soft some hard but none of them 'attached'...they were all fairly mobile. Though I wouldn't have known that if the consultant hadn't told me

When is your appointment for?

onlyjoking9329 · 04/11/2008 13:56

my appt is monday the 17th, monday being my very least fav day of the week.
yes i have lost lots of flab weight, am now down to a size 8 thou i haven't lot any size in the boob department unless my bras have shrunk
i will be ok of course i will, these things are sent to try us aren't they?
and the irony was not lost on me this morning when a charity collection bag popped throu the door, for breast cancer, the tag line declares 1 in 9 women will get breast cancer.

Great that you're being seen so soon, but I know what you mean, I always worry if I get an appt too quickly! I had a lump and was seen the next day. Doctor reassured me that dodgy lumps are not usually neat. Had an ultrasound on it and nothing found. Also had another lump years ago and they inserted a needle in took some fluid out and got the result within the hours. Not sure which method you'll have, but the neat thing is reassuring. Best of luck.

PandaG · 04/11/2008 13:57

much love and prayers if I may OJ x

chipmonkey · 04/11/2008 14:03

OJ, "neat" to me sounds good!
Fingers crossed for you! So sorry this is your thread, of all people!

Twink · 04/11/2008 14:09

OJ, so sorry to hear this.

I went in last week for a mammagram and ultrasound and like many others on here was told straight away. Like you I was determined that it would be ok because it HAS to be as dh isn't going to be around for our dd.

It was fine, again I had a hard lump and have lost weight since dh's diagnosis.

I was seen very quickly too because our wonderful GP said he wasn't taking any chances with our family and got me in asap.

Be thinking of you on the 17th. xx

chocaholic73 · 04/11/2008 14:19

Oh OJ - sorry to see this. Had been hoping everything was going as well as possible for you and the kids. Fingers crossed for you, as other people have said, most lumps are benign. Having had 2 of these, I know how scary it is though...let us know how it goes next week.

IWonderIfMamaGStillLovesMe · 04/11/2008 14:26

I'm so sorry to hear you have this hurdle to get through.

A lump doesn't always mean the worst. Have you any other changes?

Have texted you.

FromGirders · 04/11/2008 14:29

Thinking of you, all best wishes.

DutchOma · 04/11/2008 14:51

Adding my best wishes and prayers too OJ.

BennyAndJoon · 04/11/2008 15:34

frostyfingers · 04/11/2008 16:40

Try not to panic - easier said than done Iknow. I've had several visits to the hospital for lumps, each time I've been whizzed in within a few days or a week. Last trip a couple of months ago involved grope, ultrasound, mammogram & fine needle biopsy. I didn't get the results there and then, but was reassured at all stages by very nice ladies that it looked ok. They then frightened the pants off me by sending a letter saying that the results would be delayed as they had registered an anomaly and wanted to check last mammograms from couple of years earlier - not helpful! Anyway finally got all clear, I have "lumpy breasts" which is such a glamorous description and have to monitor said lumps monthly and advise of any changes. So far no probs. Each time I feel them my heart is in my mouth, but you just have to try and keep saying to yourself it's fine. I know your circumstances are very different to mine, but try to be positive. Good luck.
