So the lump in my breast is sadly not a figment of my imagination.

i have been putting off going to the doctors about it, i cancelled appt twice then went and told her about other stuff instead
so i went yesterday, and she said yes there is a lump which is suspicious and neat?, now i am liking the neat bit but not really keen on suspicious.
so i have been refered to the hospital where steve had all his treatment, i will get an appointment within 2 weeks.
it is going to be a long two weeks i think.
does anyone know how long i will have to then wait for the results of the tests, will they tell me straight away?

oh bugger, xxx

cmotdibbler · 04/11/2008 16:49

Oh pants - not what you needed. Friend had a lump detected on a mammo a few weeks ago - went back 3 days later and had a few mammo views (don't put any body lotion on either as that can make artefacts on the image), a fine needle biopsy and ultrasound, and was told there and then that it was fine.

anorak · 04/11/2008 16:51

oj, anytime you want to chat - you do have my email/msn don't you? You can easily get hold of me, anyway.

lalaa · 04/11/2008 16:52

oj, my experience was that they will tell you there and then if they think there's something to be concerned about. the waiting is hardest. crossing my fingers for you.

onlyjoking9329 · 04/11/2008 18:49

thanks for all the good wishes and positive stories, i was able to have a chat with Debs our mac nurse when she phoned me today, that helped.
Mamag, sorry i didnt get a text from you.
the only other thing was a lump in my left armpit, that has gone now so may have been a gland? i don't think they are connected as such cos the lump in my boob is in the right one, the last two lumps i have had have both been in the left boob.
anorak, i dont have your email or MSN, well i don't think i have anyway.

Oh for goodness sake. So sorry you have to go through this OJ, it's not like you haven't had enough to go through.
Like Lapin said though, no sad faces. Hopefully everything will be alright.

JRocks · 04/11/2008 19:02

Sorry to read this, not much to add to others but just wanted to reiterate that a speedy appointment is not an ominous sign. They refer all lumps for checking 'just in case' down here in my area of Cornwall. And they tell you at the end of the appointment (in my mum's experience) what the results are. Whatever the outcome of the tests, I know you'll be ok. Best wishes x

IWonderIfMamaGStillLovesMe · 04/11/2008 19:05

Just a thinking of you text and try not to worry as it won't change anything. I had a lump which turned out to be a milk duct. Not all lumps are sinister.

Thinking of you.

robinpud · 04/11/2008 19:16

OJ- I can only imagine how much you don't need this. Fingers crossed for you.. if you're going to the CH then they are supposed to be excellent. Hang on in there..

filthymindedvixen · 04/11/2008 19:19

Sending huge positive-thinking vibes to you dear lady x

Habbibu · 04/11/2008 19:56

Oh, bloody hell, oj. How crap is that? Much love & good vibes to you.

moodlumthehoodlum · 04/11/2008 20:03

OJ - horrible that anyone has to go thru this, but especially sorry to see you as the op.

good to hear lots of positive stories here though, and everyone will have their fingers crossed for you.

stanosauruswrecks · 04/11/2008 21:16

So sorry to hear about this - you of all people do not deserve this to happen to you. Re the referral - I work for the hospital in question, and pretty much all our outpatient appointments are booked on line by the GP, so it will have been her expediting the appointment so you are seen quickly to reduce the length of time you are worrying, rather than the hospital deciding that you need to be seen ASAP based on clinical need. (Does this make sense?!)Sending you manly thumps on the arm, and a R&C x

VaginaShmergina · 04/11/2008 21:23

FFS.......... this is not allowed to be happening to you OJ ! Glad Debs has been in touch and helped you a bit.

Lots of positive stories for you here and fingers crossed for a speedy hospital appointment for you. Big hugs from Vag

BecauseImWorthIt · 04/11/2008 21:26

My mate the very lovely tracey has offered to come with me i am not sure what to do just yet, i guess in some ways it would be useful to have my best mate there cos you know how you forget things or don't ask things.

VaginaShmergina · 04/11/2008 21:58

Take Tracey with you !!! She is a little star that woman !

It's understandable you dont want to go there OJ, she will help all she can.

Have you rented her out yet seeing as she is such a good friend ?

stanosauruswrecks · 04/11/2008 22:22

I'd definitely bring someone with you ,just so you have someone to complain to about how long they are taking to see you and how bad the coffee is
Write down all the questions which are whirring around in your head, you'll see one of the breast nurses, so she should be able to answer them all for you.
I can imagine that this is bringing up all sorts of emotions and worries - why not give the unit a ring and ask to speak to one of the breast care nurses, and explain your situation to her, I'd really appreciate it if you were coming to see me.
Shall be sending lots of good news vibes up the corridor to you on the day xxx

onlyjoking9329 · 04/11/2008 22:27

i don't even know where the breast screening place is these days, when i last went it was the helen g place but i know it has moved but i know not where, and is entrance 3 the one nearest the roundabout which was the one we used for radiotherapy and hospice.
i will get Tracey to have a word or Debs the lovely Mac nurse will have a word if needed

stanosauruswrecks · 04/11/2008 22:44

It's by the first entrance off the roundabout on Hl Road, up a little side road on the left hand side. It is all shiny new - opened about 2 years ago, so you won't need to go into the main hospital for anything. There is some info about it on the trust website. (though it's a bit limited)If there's anything else I can do to help or any info you need finding out before you go you can CAT me xx
