For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page.

OsBa the times I get crossest and horrible with dd are usually the times when I'm cross with DH for not being there! Then I feel worse for taking it out on her

I've just read a story about a 3 year old left at home alone locked in his room. He was rescued by the fire service before the house burned down. His mother turned up 45 mins later. Why do people think it's ok to leave them on thier own?

I was just thinking about doing my yoga dvd and then saw your comment FK about how good we're being so I'm definitely going to do it now!

OsmosisBOOnana · 17/10/2008 20:39

I am a bit low on inspiration tbh. Am going to start swimming with her on Tues, maybe that will be a good catalyst for having fun together rather than just shouting / tantruming. On both our parts.

pinkandbluespottywellies · 17/10/2008 20:47

Have you got to look after her all weekend OsBa? Are you going to do your work when she's in bed?

OsmosisBOOnana · 17/10/2008 20:51

No, I'm hoping that Cbeebies is on fine form tomorrow morning. She likes rumbling around the house uninterrupted in the mornings, I can normally get a couple of hours done. Argh! I'm not going to get anything done am I?

hammouhouseofhorror · 17/10/2008 21:23

It took me 1hr and 45mins FK, it was the first time I had run that distance. I would love to do a marathon..I was inspired by the lady who had cancer and raised millions for charity, can't remember her name. I kept thinking of all the veggers and other people who inspire me...I am still on a high, and DD asked me to take her on a run this evening. I love that as she suffers from asthma.

Not very good on F&v..(H cooked..he doesn't seem to be able to find them).

So apple and juice, lettuce, tomato and bakedbeans(?) figrolls(?).

I hope you have a better weekend with DD OB, can no-one have her for a few hours for you? It is a dreadful cycle to be in.

Might knit a couple of bags as christmas presents, have had some lovely comments off people and you guys have inspired me.

Night all, time to wobble to the sofa on bendy legs.

pinkandbluespottywellies · 17/10/2008 22:33

Fab mou I'll get back to running after this baby. We'll have to do a half-marathon together or something! Where in the country are you?

OsBa you'll be fine. Maybe plan a big break to do something nice with her later on - park or puddle walk if it's raining!

SuperBunny · 18/10/2008 04:54

hello

Bero, your day sounds stressful, Hope the weekend is better.

Thanks for link, FMF. I usually do Delia and was going to make an 8" square then chop it into 4 but may revise the plan. Gift bundle sounds lovely. Mine was to be toffee, fudge, tablet, honeycomb & peppermint bark til I realised that they will spoil before they arrive in the UK. Grrr.

All this talk of librarians reminded me that I am considering training as one

MamaG, hope baby turns and comes out easily asap.

Mou

SuperBunny · 18/10/2008 07:47

why the fuck is my butternut squash coated with shellac?

Is that what they put on oranges and lemons? Or is it a veg-based wax?

hammouhouseofhorror · 18/10/2008 09:50

Still on a high and feeling giggly... I'm in the (fabulous) Peak District pink.

Dunno why your squash is covered in shellac SB....preservative or something?

OsBa, thinking of you. I'm on my own with Dc's again and it will either be Ok or Pure hell. And at least I can look forward to getting out on my bike or something later.

Are you doing anything SB?, for the weekend. I'm still looking for a job...but would like something challenging. hmmmmmm

Going to blitz the house while I am still hyper, then drag the Dc's out somewhere.

S1ur · 18/10/2008 10:04

Morning fellow fruiters.

had grapes for breakfast, I suspect that is less good than porridge but better then a bacon sarnie..... mmmmm bacon sarnie sound delish actually. Wonder if I can be arsed to make one.

lol SuperB, I just had to google shellac to work out wtf you were on about, I now know more than I could possibly ever need to know about wax and the uses and origin of shellac.

It is made from the secretion of the family of lac-producing insects, which doesn't sound terribly appealing unitl you remember bees.

Oooh mou we are near each other, ish perhaps, though I am city based

I had a oddly frustrating and upsetting night last night and a chip butty. The chip butty wasn't upsetting, it was devoid of nutritional value but I don't find that saddening.

anyway, I am trying to design a website for dh and it is proving frustrating.

grrrr, mou d'ya fancy doing that for me if you're still bored and hyper?

hammouhouseofhorror · 18/10/2008 11:15

Waving back at slur.

I have just invested in TENS machine for chronic pain and it makes me laugh (does that make me strange) It's kind of nice, I think I could get addicted.

Shall rent myself out to fellow Mnetters whilst I am hyper...Ill cycle over in a minute slur.

It is quite sad that a chip butty is devoid of nutritional value given that they are so yummy.

I'm planning a website but don't even know where to start, so I am impressed,.

back to the hoovering.

pinkandbluespottywellies · 18/10/2008 13:08

Wonder how OsBa's getting on. She'll be on here before long to let us know!

Like the specs and frills SB

Tomato soup.

We're having chinese takeaway in honour of the Grand Prix. I know it's not really in the spirit of the idea (ie finding out about a country's food and learning to cook something new) but... well no excuses just takeaway

TooTicky · 18/10/2008 14:58

Have done lots of tidying and sorting today. Well, dp wopuld say he did most of it while the rest of us were "stuffing our faces" (for stuffing faces, read washing up, hanging washing, picking veg and making soup).
Anyway, the place is hoovered and the dolls' house is fixed and in a better place and people have eaten and the sink is clear and the kitchen is better and lots of washing has been out and in. And dp has gone to bed which is good because the rest of us are feeling rather shouted at.

Mou, good luck with the bags. I started crocheting a hat last night. Good luck with the mania too - hope you can use it well but not exhaust yourself.

Slur, sorry you had an upsetting evening. I haven't had a chip butty for years.

SB - hello Glad you haven't disappeared.

We have to do a little bit of shopping somewhere I think.,

OB, why don't come and see King Bladud's pigs tomorrow? It's the last chance before they are auctioned off. Victoria Park (the Bath one obv)

CharleeInChains · 18/10/2008 17:10

Hello i am back form my holiday now and have started my 10/10 awesomeness!

I have renewed my love for watermelon so have been feasting on it all day!

I am trying to loose wieght and just be more healthy, just before we went away i had got to a point of not cooking meals just gorging on crisps and ice cream in the evenings and that has so got to stop!

But after having someone else cook for me all week i have a new energy to cook nice healthy meals!

I did so much walking when i was away i must have done roughly 10 miles a day just walking round the park and the town.

Im getting back on my wii fit tonight before my pork and veg kebabs and a big green salad!

IknowIshouldnt · 18/10/2008 17:33

Afternoon, bitches.

Am v impressed with all exercise. It's a weekend so I shall have none but my sister is doing a 10k run tomorrow so I'm counting that as exercise by proxy.

Am glad you learned so much about shellac, Slur. It doesn't bother me as such, but I was miffed that I had bought what I thought was a vegetable but was actually tainted. I don't even like Butternut Squash.

You all have written lovely posts about holidays and tidying and I have nothing lovely to write about.

I sort of split up with BF for a while and had a date arranged for tonight but am actually going to see BF again so cancelled but then new date man emailed me saying he would really like to get together some time and I don't kno what to do because much as I like BF, he was a complete arse Sorry for rambling. Going to go and cut up fudge (it has rasins in it so counts)

IknowIshouldnt · 18/10/2008 17:36

Shit

S1ur · 18/10/2008 17:37

Ta Toot, gosh you are a busy bunny. Was chatting to friend last night and it didn't go so well. But am chipper again now so, meh.

Welcome back Charlee

Am making veg stew/pasta bake something like that. Has odds and sods in, inc onions, aubergine and toms and courgettes. It is bascially leftovers with pasta.

berolina · 18/10/2008 18:01

hello all.

sorry your evening/friend chat was difficult, Slur.

Am impressed at productiveness chez TooT. There has been productiveness chez bero too, because dh and both BeroBoys have gone to a museum with PIL this afternoon. I am never, never, never alone at home without any children at all, except for one hour early on Saturday mornings when dh takes them shopping and I clean and tidy. I walked them to the train, then got some things and when I came back in I was doing everything in an almighty rush and nervously listening for ds2 as I waited for the kettle to boil . Have done some work on the lecture I'm due to give on my book , tidied and rearranged my bookshelves, done some sorting and planning and just generally relished the sheer blissful heavenly aloneness.

donuts

berolina · 18/10/2008 18:02

(Well, not my book, because it does not yet exist. I mean my research. Am still at the prospect of a lecture though, although I lectured for a living until last year)

BBBee · 18/10/2008 18:16

pinkandbluespottywellies · 18/10/2008 18:45

Oh dear, namechanging one. You're rubbish at it like me!!

Never mind. Had rhubarb and custard with dd for pudding and will make sure there's at least a beansprout in my chinese

I have been ironing and sorting dd's clothes to ebay. I have only sold a car on ebay so am a bit of a novice on clothes!

Must try and do some exercise tonight.

Bero did it feel odd to have the house to yourself or did you quite enjoy it?!

S1ur · 18/10/2008 18:50

Evening Pink, ebaying a doddle once you get started just takes an age to begin..

(namechanger, don't worry about it... or ask for posts to be deleted >>

FrayedKnot · 18/10/2008 18:56

Evenin' all

Erm...energetic floor mopping

A few grapes
Salad & hoummous pitta
Sausage hotpot with leeks, celery, courgettes & butterbeans
A banana and choc chip muffin

Pink children's clothes usually go well, good luck

I have had a domestic sort of day with a party for DS that was not in a soft play centre

pinkandbluespottywellies · 18/10/2008 20:29

Chinese is here and I have at least 1 mushroom, a carrot baton, a chunk of pineapple and 2 pieces of pepper.

Oh and a beansprout!

OsmosisBOOnana · 18/10/2008 21:58

not a terribly productive day. Pute broke early on. Obviously as soon as DH came home it started working again.

Have just had ginormous fight with DH and he is going out and I am being ridiculously paranoid.

don't really have a great deal else to add.

did reasonabaly well on the essay plan / reading front so will hopefully catch up tomorrow.

I have a TTC friend coming over for a 'chat'. I think she sees me as her beacon of hope... It took us over 2 years to get preggers and endless tests etc, whilst all of her friends have got pregnant accidentally or by just looking at each other. Given my current thoughts on the merits of child rearing, I'm not sure I'm the person to talk to!!!!!

I gave DH my last nytol. Fool.
