For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page.

aqfter a storming start (5 fruits before 9am) I have just had fried egg on toast for lunch

Swedes · 17/10/2008 14:11

I came for the shoe shop on the high street: Galloway's - suppliers of stout shoes since 1817

Guadalupe · 17/10/2008 14:12

Sorry, have been self absorbed. Also hope everything about everybody that everyone else has said.

Twenty years, Toot?? Perhaps that was the origin of rock cakes. Someone dropped it or something.

fumf · 17/10/2008 14:17

Guad - not self absorbed - its a fecking BIG thing!

Swedes · 17/10/2008 14:25

Boco - at trace vegetables.

Guad - Your proposed new home sounds wonderful. It's a lovely feeling when a house feels right isn't it? How old is it?

Please someone tell me to go and pack as I am going on holiday tomorrow v v v early and I have yet to pack ........... for six people. And I semi-lied to DP an hour ago on the phone when he asked about the packing: "In hand" was the phrase I used.

TooTicky · 17/10/2008 14:31

Swedes, you have made me snort. Dp's surname is Galoway and he is indeed of a stout build
The sooner you finish packing, the sooner you can come back and play. Run along now. Good girl.

MamaG · 17/10/2008 14:31

swedes - go pack

TooTicky · 17/10/2008 14:32

Guad, I think some recipes contained between 20 and 100 eggs, hence the keeping qualities. Also sugar and alcohol I suppose.

daisy99divine · 17/10/2008 14:45

Swedes - I am sure you have gone to pack so won't see this, but I am LOL that stout shoes and high library use go hand in hand - it is so RIGHT!

Guad I am sure the cake will be fine, I think you are meant to eat it - but if it seems funny at first slice you could stick coctail sticks in it with tiny slices of mango and pineapple instead

MamaG - sorry to hear about breach baby potential. Happened to me too. Then he "flipped" on final scan (4 weeks to go) so very happy, but DS was then prolapse cord so a very very quick CS was had in any event - would be happy to talk more directly if you want (since it isn't very 10/10)

Managed tomato and mushroom for lunch

Hello Mou have your legs seized up yet

Guadalupe · 17/10/2008 14:46

100 eggs

Swedes - It's only victorian but it's kept its character and you can imagine swirly bustley skirts and stiff collars going up the stairs. Go and pack!

daisy99divine · 17/10/2008 14:46

better go and work, have just told boss "it's in hand"

FrayedKnot · 17/10/2008 16:20

Hello all ye merry veggers

Guad eat the cake sooner rather than later is my advice. We tried to eat ours after 4 years and I'm afraid it hadn;t worn well.

My Mum used to have a piece of teh icing from hers in a keepsake box though which may still be in existence somewhere

I have a rather strange love of libraries, which makes me to think about it, has to do with lifts in university libraries. I think that's all I'm going to say on the matter.

I had another night with very little sleep yesterday due to DS being unsettled again. We have agreed he can have a bed set up in our bedroom to sleep in if he needs to. Otherwise, despite our big bed, I end up sleeping on the edge with no pillow or duvet and two men snoring

I am applying for shares in swan vesta matches.

Fumf thank you for posting the recipe...I am doing some "hampers" this year and they will be ideal...hoorah.

4 portions of fruit and a slice of cucumber. Veg box just arrived though

Pity I have no energy to cook

AND DS wants playdough.

daisy99divine · 17/10/2008 16:23

Intridued, and a little worried at Swan Vesta comment (have I missed something FK

Just typed Vespa and had visions of little matches on bikes hooting around Rome...

My DS gets in bed and wriggles until he is horizontal to our vertical IYSWIM? Very little room left!!

Guadalupe · 17/10/2008 17:29

ha ha at obco in the round-up

pinkandbluespottywellies · 17/10/2008 17:35

YAYYYYYY MOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Will catch up the rest and chat after tea

hammouhouseofhorror · 17/10/2008 17:50

Legs!!!! I seem to have lost control of them!, and I am now worryingly hyper...anyone want any housework doing?

Sniffs around for more apple pie....

Anyone eaten Mushrooms in milk? An elderly gentleman was talking about having them and I was intrigued.

Lol at matches on bikes Daisy.

Just the one slice of cucumber FK?.

Got to go...crisis in the making.

Guadalupe · 17/10/2008 18:09

daisy - you have won a competition!

berolina · 17/10/2008 18:27

FMF, I would love to get something like that . I am going to make biscuits and Lebkuchen with ds1. And Glühwein.

Guad, this is all very exciting. It sounds rather meant-to-be really. I would love to fall in love with a house, or even a flat. We have come to the conclusion that we are going to have to decide on a school for ds1 first so we know which catchment to attempt to move to - and move we will, he is not going to the one we are in catchment for, it's not a bad area or anything but I really don't like what I know of the school. How are your school woes, FMF?

TooT looking forward to it.

My woes have continued. I have lost both ds2's health insurance card and my travelcard. Both should be replaceable - I pay for my travelcard annually - but it is a PITA.

MamaG - I will hold off on the labour vibes for now. Thank you for good wishes. I think he will get the extension. Even if he didn't, I think I'd rather pick up some freelance translation work than go there FT. The 21 hours I'm doing now have been less hideous than I feared, but the job is extremely compartmentalised off from the rest of my life - another reason why I need out - and I couldn't bear spending most of my waking hours in a compartment.

fumf · 17/10/2008 18:31

ah bero, the deed is done, the form is filled in, and I can do nothing until March....

OsmosisBOOnana · 17/10/2008 18:43

Hello fruity folk.

I am getting v close to boiling point with DD. I blame DH though, he has been away for the last 3 weekends. I don't cope with solitary very well.... Hard to complain about it though as I no longer earn any money and we have a lot of rennovations needed

Am preparing for reading frenzy tomorrow. This is a multi pronged attack.

  1. do all cleaning now so I don't think it needs doing tomorrow

  2. cook all items in fridge requiring cooking and then freeze so I can't try and do that

  3. drink all the gin so I am not tempted by that

  4. an emergency sort and file of all paperwork

  5. DH tax return

As you can probably tell, I am a master of putting things off.

Who knows, I may even bath DD and start potty training

pinkandbluespottywellies · 17/10/2008 19:01

I'm doing hampers too so think I might join in on the Christmas cake idea.

Crap f&v day but I visited a secure unit which was interesting

fumf · 17/10/2008 19:07

wow OB, you are even more manic optinmistic energetic than I am at the moment

I am cleaning (well, taking a break from it) before dh comes back (how very 1950s!) so he doesn't suspect that I have spent al day on the allotment and reading and pissing about on MN and youtube...

The boys spent some of their savings on fancy dress costumes for hlloween. little un is a very convincing batman. big un is the campest stormtrooper you could ever imagine!! Seriously, if there is a vacancy in some 2008 Village People Tribute Act, he has to be in it...

well worth £16 just for the laughs it has given me!

TooTicky · 17/10/2008 19:59

2 bowls of stewed apple, 2 and a half apples, baked potatoes, tomatoes, cucumber, avocado, baked beans, hummous. Best I've done in ages.

MamaG - my first dc was breech, but the midwives didn't realise until I had been in labour for some time. They kept rooting about and saying, "Ooh, I can feel hair!"
Poor dd1 had a very bruised bottom when she came out
At least forewarned is forearmed and somewhat prepared.
And they can flip at any time - as proved by dd1

FrayedKnot · 17/10/2008 20:12

Every one is extremely 10/10 atm. Who needs bootcamp?!

It was only once slice I think, Daisy. I bought a tuna and cucumber wrap and I believe it had one token slice in it

Since then, an apple, some kale, and a baby squash.

I am terribly impressed by your running, Mou. How long does it take you to run that far?

FrayedKnot · 17/10/2008 20:17

Meant to say, OB, trying behaviour can be especially difficult to cope with when you feel a bit deserted and isolated.

Will you be doing stuff together this weekend?
