Kewcumber's Been In Hospital - her blood isn't Clotting

You may have missed Kewcumber around mumsnet for the past week, she has, sadly, been in hospital. They are trying to increase her platelets but it has been a long process. She is keeping her spirits up but missing her ds immensely although her dm has been bringing him to see her every day. For any of you that would like to see the side-effects of blood not clotting I've posted a couple of pictures of Kewcumbers arms on my profile (don't look at if you have a needle phobia!).

She is having the best treatment possible and is hoping that the double dose of everything (trust Kew!) that she is being given at the moment will ensure that she is home (and mumsneting!) very soon.

I'm sure she'll be updating you with all the gory details once she is online.

would have been cool, wouldn't it. Can't beleive I didn;t think of it before, would have been so easy...

Teensy bit tempted to come off everything and try it...

Kewcumber - when I had ITP, I slipped in the bathroom and sat hard on the tap/control thing at the side of the radiator. I got a bruise in a perfect square with finger notches all the way round and a faint "S" in the middle as the radiator was made by Shanks, I think. Which, come to think of it is quite an appropriate thing to stamp on one's bum.

Cookie cutters would have been hilarious though.

Kew, am PMSL at the thought of what you could have written on your forehead - what a missed opportunity!

KristinaM · 24/09/2008 21:28

you are a better woman than me then kew ( but then i always knew that). i was on them a few weeks ago for a dental abcess and i never wanted a wee glass of wine so much for ages. probably not since i was pg. its amazing how much you want a light refreshment when soem one tells you you cant

Kewclotter · 24/09/2008 23:52

funny though Kristina, you know what I really fancy is a nice cold glass of lager and lime . Metallic taste from steriods is putting me off the thought of wine so its not really a temptation.

TheFallenMadonna · 24/09/2008 23:56

Very sorry about all the blood hoohah Kew, but OMG your boy!!!!

Kewclotter · 25/09/2008 00:12

isn't he divine?!

I'vebeen putting together a photo montage of his life and pinching myself every few minutes to make sure I'm not dreaming it all.

May even let MN have a brief look (its really for friedns and family so far too many photos for random strangers to be that interested)

TheFallenMadonna · 25/09/2008 00:14

He is edible, and the two birthday photos together - brought a tear to my eye for sure.

Kewclotter · 25/09/2008 10:11

waiting for one more photo and will get permission from parents then may put it up for a limited time. Watch this space.

scaryteacher · 25/09/2008 15:24

Sorry I missed this - I've had ITP for 14 years, platelets hover around 60-80, sometimes down to 30, but I only get given steroids if I need an anaesthetic.

Didn't know about the dark choc (I live in Belgium - bugger) or the red wine (out goes the wine rack), but did know about the aspirin.

Glad you're feeling better....hope the bruises go soon (and the rash...mine is dark brown and matches my opaque tights!)

squiffy · 25/09/2008 15:27

Crikey Kew. You don't do things by half, do you? Sorry I missed this thread completely.

What a scare. And for your poor DS too. Please recover soon.

xx

'Tis very bizarre, BTW, catching up on something ages after the event has actually occurred. I rather felt like Schrodinger as I clicked on thread, not knowing what the outcome would be; very glad to open the box and see the cat/inanimate vegetable not just alive, but positively bursting with platelets.

sillybigsausage · 25/09/2008 19:01

Kew - just spotted that pic of your DS on his 1st birthday - just sooo cute and poignant

Love the Boden caption PMSL!!

thumbwitch · 26/09/2008 11:10

Scaryteacher (and Kew for that matter) - don't throw out your red wine and chocolate yet! They won't affect your platelet LEVELS, they just help to prevent platelet stickiness (as in inappropriate stickiness that might result in inappropriate clots)

Hope that makes you happier!

Kewclotter · 26/09/2008 13:40

lol Thumbwitch - I hadn;t thought that they would make a significant difference anyway but regardless am banned from red wine becasue of the metranidizole for another few days.

MrsRecycle · 26/09/2008 13:44

oh bum - completely forgot to welcome you home on this thread Kew. Belated celebration...

Oh and I recognise that tractor! Lovely shot of ds, he is just so photogenic.
