Kewcumber's Been In Hospital - her blood isn't Clotting

You may have missed Kewcumber around mumsnet for the past week, she has, sadly, been in hospital. They are trying to increase her platelets but it has been a long process. She is keeping her spirits up but missing her ds immensely although her dm has been bringing him to see her every day. For any of you that would like to see the side-effects of blood not clotting I've posted a couple of pictures of Kewcumbers arms on my profile (don't look at if you have a needle phobia!).

She is having the best treatment possible and is hoping that the double dose of everything (trust Kew!) that she is being given at the moment will ensure that she is home (and mumsneting!) very soon.

I'm sure she'll be updating you with all the gory details once she is online.

platelets restored, kew and gorgeous dd reunited...oooh, i do like a happy ending.
so glad you're home, kew, enjoy the cuddles with d.

can't believe it was a week ago kew drama unfolded...
kew:"look at this. (cue sight of a million blood spots) do you reckon casualty of doctor on monday?"

SW: (thinks) 'OMFG"
says (in best calm manner): 'Casualty."
take care you medical weirdo, you

stepfordwife · 21/09/2008 08:31

or doctor, that is..

RubySlippers · 21/09/2008 08:32

goodness me - glad you are recovering

Kewcumber · 21/09/2008 08:34

steppie - I hesitate to suggst it again - but fancy a coffee again thismorning

I did kind of know I needed to go to casualty but because I didn't feel "ill" I didn't want to over react.

belgo · 21/09/2008 08:43

I'm glad you are recovering Kew! I've been reading this thread with interest and i'm glad you're home with your ds.

stepfordwife · 21/09/2008 08:49

too bloody (no pun intended) right.
lordy knows what you'll show me this time

am working (really) at mo. then taking brood (including niece and nephew staying weekend) out at 10ish, so not around this morning.

but will be knocking around this arvo from 3ish if you want to pop over for a cuppa.
are you having some time off work?

Janni · 21/09/2008 08:51

Well, that little episode pretty much goes to the top of the 'scary diagnosis' tree this week on MN, Kew. Are you going to manage to rest a bit?

I was laughing at the 'arnica' thing. DD has cystic fibrosis and people are always suggesting alternative remedies to me. Sadly, there are some things that arnica, calendula and tea tree oil just cannot fix

chipmonkey · 21/09/2008 10:08

Just saw this Kew, hope you're feeling better.

Bumperlicious · 21/09/2008 10:19

Hi Kew, I missed all this but sound very scary! Glad you are ok, you must feel like a human pin cushion. Take it easy for a while.

jojosmaman · 21/09/2008 15:19

Hey Kew, glad to see you are home now, I had said to Mrsrecycle that it sounded like Aplastic anemiea (sp) as my mum has this so very glad to hear its not (my mum is would be with you on the bone marow thing, she's had a few now! She is in Manchester Royal as we speak having a bone marrow transplant hoping to cure this horrible illness and she said that the bone marrow looked like a cocktail with crushed ice!! Nice thought!!).

Keep well!

Oblomov · 21/09/2008 15:27

Sorry to hear this Kew. I too, have only just seen this. Hope you are doing better.

Kewcumber · 21/09/2008 20:00

Jojo - its mot aplastic anaemia as I have normal redx and white cell count - just no platelets. Though plenty of the little buggers now! Fingers crossed it should be much easier to treat.

jojosmaman · 22/09/2008 09:21

Hope so Kew, good luck and hopefully you'll be back on track very soon!

SorenLorensen · 22/09/2008 09:26

I missed all this, Kewcumber - you poor thing!

OneLieIn · 22/09/2008 09:31

Ouch, looks painful. Send my good vibes over to KewCue. xx

schneebly · 22/09/2008 09:35

OMG just seen this - you poor thing! So pleased you are home and hopefully on the mend

Buda · 22/09/2008 09:35

Hope you are on mend now. Being home with DS will do you a power of good of course. All sounds v. nasty and downright weird!

Kewcumber · 22/09/2008 21:04

Oh sod it - now it looks like I have an infection in teh arm which had the cannula in it. Is that even possible if I'm on 2 different types of antibiotics?

are you around at home this week?

Kewcumber · 22/09/2008 21:08

I do feel very lucky really I do after the way this week could have tunred out, honest. But c'mon give me a break. Maybe its not an infection just a bit inflamed...

Dottydot · 22/09/2008 21:08

blimey charlie Kew - have finally caught up with all this - you don't do things by halves do you?!

Hope you're OK and that you're infection-free and platelet-full xxx

Kewcumber · 22/09/2008 21:11

yes sfx - have spoken to work today - agreed I will take this week off. Realy I;ve agreed becuase I think DS needs me to be around, he is very "angry" at the moment and yet very sweet. going to take him to play group at Cheeky MOnkeys tomorrow morning and my mum will have him weds so I can rest and catch up to some sleep. Then possibly short day at CM for him on thrurday so he can get used to it a bit before going back next week.

Kewcumber · 22/09/2008 21:13

dooty - meant to reply to your FB comment but just struggling to catch up with everything at the moment as can;t get on until after DS is asleep as he is velcro boy atm.

Platelets are functional at half strentgh so no worries there at the moment. Steroids not great though - hoping they'll bring them down soon.

Arm hurts like buggery though.

Off to get something to eat - that will make me feel better !

Kewcumber · 22/09/2008 21:14

dooty?! Dotty of course!
