Ok, here is the new thread

OP posts:
Marshy · 01/09/2008 19:26

Hi Peachygirl
I've just been looking back over your previous thread and wondering if this might be for me.
I have older children (dd just turned 13, ds 11 and starting high school this week). I work more or less full time but have been off sick for the last 4 weeks (just started week 5) with sciatica which has been unbelievably painful. I'm relieved to say that it's improving but as I've been very inactive for all of this time I'm now feeling a bit blobby.
If I'm honest, my weight had been creeping up for some time before, but this, combined with some comfort eating, really hasn't helped. I weighed myself this morning for the first time in ages, which confirmed the horrible truth!
So all day I've been teetering between either just giving in to it and pigging out or getting positive and doing something about it. Then I saw your thread!
I think I would find it really helpful to be able to give and receive a bit of support here.
Do you think you could give me an idea as to how it works and whether you have space for another?

peachygirl · 01/09/2008 20:30

Marshy you are very welcome to join in
I've taken over from Wolfgirl organising for a bit. Basically the 'diet' works as follows.... These are wolfgirls original rules, with a bit of editing.

Weigh in will be on a Tuesday. It is best to weigh yourself in the morning, makes you feel better if nothing else.

  1. The diet is very simple! DO NOT EAT after your main meal. This means STOP picking. You can drink: water or diluted squash. This diet is like an evening FAST. You will feel the hunger pangs at about 8,9 or 10pm. But work through it, don?t give in. It?s the burning, hunger pangs that are making your body work. Utilizing what?s already stored in your body, and generally?. Just getting on with it.
  1. This bit could be confusing, so bear with me. Your last meal can be ANY time, 5,6,7 8pm etc. If you tend to eat late, i.e. after 7pm, try not to pick before hand, but just have a GOOD size meal when you do eat. And if you do need to eat because the hunger is unbearable, try a banana, apple or even chewing gum, or a cup of water, coffee. (by allowing this I?m meaning, that if you eat after 7pm, and your last meal was say? 1 o?clock, 6 hours is a long time not to eat anything, so again?. Eat what you like, but in moderation. And then I would say, at about 5pm just eat fruit or low fat good nutritious food iykwim )
  1. You can eat ANYTHING during the day
  1. You can drink ANYTHING during the day
  1. You can carry on taking medication, and vitamins. In fact very important to NOT stop ha ha ha ha!
  1. You should try and exercise, even if it is doing 3 more trips up the stairs than necessary, or some sit-ups or press-ups; or try walking the kids to school, nursery, walking to your local shop, swimming etc. It is not a major part of the rules, but I think we all know a wee bit of exercise will help. Especially with our Jelly bellies!!
  1. You can take ONE night off. That night is your choice, whether it be a Monday, Friday or whenever. And it is also up to you, whether you go ahead and pick. Its there for emergencies. But you can?t save them up, and say?. Ah, but I didn?t have a night off last week, so Im having two this week. No no no no no! Not allowed.
  1. Exceptions to the rule are: if you have girlie time and are feeling really pooh-pants, and desperate for that little bit of sweetness. You can pick, but how about getting your other half to monitor what you pick at, and only one small bar of chocky, or how about fruit gums, fruit pastels, they are sweet and low fat. Or someone made a great suggestions, raw jelly. A few cubes of that might do the trick. OR a bowl of cereal even!
Other exceptions are similar, like if you feeling very down, or had bad news, or need to comfort eat. I understand about comfort eating, so now and again its allowed, but only now and again. One more exception, and that is on special occasions. You can go ahead and pick/nibble.

When we say you can eat anything it is obviusly in moderation If you eat 16 cream cakes every day you are not going to lose any weight!!!

There is no DO-OR-DIE with this diet. We are all just having a try, and doing our best. There is no pass mark, no failure, but quite the opposite. Just a whacking great big pat on our backs for having a go! Lets do this eh! Lets all lose a few pounds or stones, ready for the summer. And hopefully, it will become a lifestyle, not just a diet
I think as time went on we said try not to eat anything but your evening meal after 5pm. I hope it's not confusing. I can CAT you if you like

We have lost quite a bit of weight I for one have lost half a stone.

wolfgirl would suggest a food to cut out. sweets chocolate and suggest exercisies to try.
I will email you with the chart you fill it in then I collate it al together or you email me with your weight and I add it on.

The more the merrier really!

I would love to join you but I know it won't work. I never EAT anything after my main meal (I don't get the munchies)..but you don't mention not DRINKING after your main meal. It's those wine calories that have given me a "wine waist" as it's now known

verylapsedrunner · 01/09/2008 20:50

..ahh, just seen you mention Drink: water or sqaush, that's where I'm going wrong

Wolfgirl · 02/09/2008 20:15

Just checking in and will read and join in after doing the school and play school run.

ImnotMamaGbutsheLovesMe · 03/09/2008 12:36

I feel so today but have bought a stir fry for lunch and I know by actually eating something I will feel better.

I have survived DS2 being at playschool this morning, peeled the spuds for dinner, I know what everyone is having and once DS2 goes for his nap in 10 minutes I will have lunch and a sit down.

Also planning to walk more to school. Any tips for handling moany 7 and 5 year olds who don't want to walk home the three quarters of a mile huge distance they say I make them walk?

scattercushion · 03/09/2008 12:47

one evening a week for winio? Yikesio!

Marshy · 03/09/2008 12:58

Hi Peachygirl
Thanks for all the info on your earlier post. Would like to join. Have CAT'ed you.
Do i need to look out for an email now? Sorry to be so dim - haven't done this before.

Hi IMGLM. Sorry you're feeling Hope you're getting your sit down now. No great tips i'm afraid. It was all i could do to get my two into the car after school. They always wanted to hang about for ages and play with their friends. My DS has his first day at high school today and will be getting the bus home for the first time, so i guess the best i can say is that your moany walks won't last forever, tho it might seem like it!

peachygirl · 03/09/2008 20:08

Marshy yes keep an eye open. CATs usually take a couple of days to get through as Mumsnet headquarters pass them on.

IMGLM. Don't worry this is the first week of the walking. How about a spot of I spy or something on the way home or count five red cars, four birds, three gates, two somethings, one thing etc with a prize for the winner - a sticker or something??

I've not had any emails yet ladies I will keep my eyes open

OP posts:
peachygirl · 04/09/2008 19:52
