For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

My driving lesson was good, so at least that was one positive. I was only called a numpty ONCE - hooray.

Cat still ill, no PDSA around here, no. Have persuaded my mother to cover the bill and I'll pay her back, so will take her to the vets this evening. She doesn't seem to be able to breathe properly. I don't like it when things can't breathe, I'm pacing and staring at her.

Boco hope all is well at vet's

brocolli x 2, corn, peas
banana

ds so completely recovered again
I am wondering to what extent these illnesses are psychosomatic tbh
our needs are in direct opposition atm - I need to go off in a hut in the dark for a few days and meditate on baboons drumming, and he needs my complete attention and physical presence
and he is WINNING because he keeps being ill so no-one else can look after him
cunning

Do you think my cat's illness is also psychosomatic, brought on by the trauma of getting the guinea pigs?

We took her to the vet, she's wheezing, can't eat and has a high temp. Vet gave her an injection of antibiotics for tonight and she's got to have general anaesthetic and x-ray tomorrow. This is going to cost a fortune

TooTicky · 02/07/2008 18:21

Avi, it is always the irreversible action that is catastrophic, isn't it?

Franny, are you familiar with the 100 Mile an Hour Dog books by Jeremy Strong? May I particularly recommend the fourth - the most recent - which is actually written by the dog and has a baboon in it. It has some priceless funny bits in it and I thought you and ds might enjoy it.

Melon, nectarine, cucumber, roasted squash, carrot, cabbage, raspberry icing. Hey, 7 is good for me atm!!

littlerach · 02/07/2008 18:22

Boco.

TooTicky · 02/07/2008 18:23

Oh dear Boco
Am sending healing vibes and sympathetic vet vibes.
Never go to the vet in a rainbow-striped cardigan and suggest that flea spray may in fact be rather toxic and refuse to use it on the grounds that you have young children. I'm sure they charged me extra that day.

TooTicky · 02/07/2008 18:24

Boco, what about Blue Cross? They are like PDSA I think....

UnderRated · 02/07/2008 18:24

Boco. Is your arm ok? You must have been very shaken.

Sorry about cats/ children with hairballs.

I have too much to do. Grrr.

FrannyandZooey · 02/07/2008 18:24

Boco yes could be, the cat is probably threatened by the piggies and is acting out by way of her respiratory system
my friend knows a cat whisperer if you need more help
hope she is alright soon anyway
it does sound hideously expensive

TooT did he write something dreadful about pirates who ate loads of junk food? ds chose the most shockingly bad book from the library the other day and I have a strong suspicion it was by J Strong. Apologies if not

TooTicky · 02/07/2008 18:26

Yes, there are pirate books, which I don't enjoy. This dog one though - called Lost! - is very very good.

FrannyandZooey · 02/07/2008 18:27

ok will look
the pirate one was SHITE

Hi all

Oh dear about DS, Franny....but maybe he's just got one of those things which makes them feel lousy in the morning (due to higher temp) and then gets better as the day goes on? Hope you are not feeling too worn down. I have been visualizing the musical box from Camberwick Green closing, if it helps at all.

Boco - what a horrid day - glad to hear you have the means to take the cat to the vet...our cat had a bladder problem last year which manifested itself on a Sunday meaning emergency vets appt which cost about 10 times as much as normal vet...it's frighteningly expensive.

Well DS had his last visit to school before Sept and apprently there were 6 teachers in the classroom, one of which was called Miss Snuffles and the other Miss 'Gusting

I am never going to be able to believe anything he tells me about school.

FrayedKnot · 02/07/2008 18:43

One of whom

FrannyandZooey · 02/07/2008 18:46

yes there go my hopes of having this baby on time

in most unladylike fashion at Miss Gusting

God Avi, my ds is like that! I have more or less learned the right way to do things by his standards but dp often sends him into hysteria by unnecessarily cutting something or putting it on the wrong plate

FK your ds sounds funny

Franny, so glad ds has perked up. Hairballs is all you need at this stage of the game (I very much believe in psychosomatic illness btw)

Boco poor cat

FrayedKnot · 02/07/2008 20:54

Oh yes, DS is the same

Apples have to be cut up just so, and if he doesn;t get to do something first, or himself rather than me doing it, all hell breaks loose.

Although, certain things he cannot possibly do himself, like putting on shoes.

We have a little joke about it every morning now

"Muuuuummmmy can you put my shoes on?"

"But they won;t fit me DS, look"

"No, put my shoes on meeeee"

oh sorry avi, did not give any sympathy or reassurance
it sounded so very familiar and normal that I hadn't actually realised you were worried about it - thought you were just sharing something sort of funny
am idiot
it is not funny when it is happening
it is VERY funny in about 2 years time when they have more or less stopped doing that, and have found new and more sophisticated methods of torture

OP posts:
TooTicky · 02/07/2008 22:15

Did you eat the crisp?

TooTicky · 02/07/2008 22:16

Sorry, that is vastly irrelevant.
