For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Do any of you know much about the show Ladyboys in Bangkok? I'm not interested personally, I hasten to add.
A group is using community bus to go to see it and they want me to find a driver, preferably female, who would appreciate a free ticket.
Don't know how risque the show is (and too scared to google) but need to know if I am likely to offend people by asking if they are interested....

littlerach · 09/07/2008 18:29

That's so mean, TooTicky.

Boco, I htink it depends on your LEA.
At secondary level here, if you had numerous absences, then yes, they can report you to EWO. And then issue a fine. I don't know about primary though.
If you were reported to EWO, I can't imagine they'd have much to say to you though, as I preusme it's not repeated absence.
A mum in dd1's calss always takes her children away firts weel of september, although it is unauthorised. Don't think she's hahd any come back yet. 2 years running.

FrannyandZooey · 09/07/2008 18:30

Boco I would imagine the way it is dealt with depends almost entirely on the head

Cross posted!

FrannyandZooey · 09/07/2008 18:31

TooT I am guessing but I would not imagine it to be a show that was completely without sexual reference

FrannyandZooey · 09/07/2008 18:33

I had to google

site not scary - well not that I have seen

TooTicky · 09/07/2008 18:34

Hmm, yes, but how bad is it? I am so clueless. Am worried about offending people by asking them.

FrannyandZooey · 09/07/2008 18:34

it sounds quite sweet:

"What is the show about?

16 beautiful transvestites direct from Bangkok in a glamorous and funny cabaret show ? flamboyant costumes, painstakingly immaculate make-up and show-stopping choreography are the hallmark of this truly unique blend of cabaret, dance and comedy."

it also says children of 12 can go to the early shows so it can't be THAT risque

Your head sounds like she's on a power trip to me. So what if she does report you to the education welfare officer, what do you really think they are going to say?

They deal with children who attend 50 days of school a year, parents who make no effort to send their children to school at all and are suffering educationally because of it as they are not being taught anything at home.

Your daughter attends school diligently all year. You have just had a shitty time when your youngets child caught a serious illness when you went away DURING HALF TERM. You are having a break away as a family. It has come to your attention that other people have been granted permission for the same break.

I would tell the headmistress that in your opinion the break will be good for the family and your dd and that you are perfectly happy to discuss this with the education welfare officer if she wishes to report you. Your daughter's educational welfare is not at risk.

TooTicky · 09/07/2008 18:37

Thanks Franny, that doesn't sound too bad, does it?

FrannyandZooey · 09/07/2008 18:50

no it doesn't TooT

onion, mushroom, cauliflower, swede, carrot, pinto bean, kidney bean, raisin and cococnut korma
even nicer after sitting in the fridge cogitating all week

goats cheese tart with puy lentil, watercress, spring onion and mixed herb salad and griddled courgettes.

IdrisTheDragon · 09/07/2008 19:38

We decided to embrace the rain this afternoon and after going to messy play (hooray the mess was in a parish hall and not our house) went for a Wet Walk and splashed in lots and lots of puddles.

We also sang (mainly me), waded (mostly DS and DD) and had Fun ).

Then we came back and had a bath together which was also good.

Children now both in bed and I am pretty sure asleep which is even better .

Still thinking opening thoughts which will firmly SHUT tomorrow mid morning.

TooTicky · 09/07/2008 19:42

That sounds lovely Idris

IdrisTheDragon · 09/07/2008 19:45

It was good - think some people may well have thought we were a little mad, but we were having more Fun than them .

There was a particularly good puddle near DS's school and we bumped into one of the TAs for his class and he very excitedly told her we had seen an enormous slug .

Would you still like 2-3 year old tights btw? Have been very lax in finding them but I will try harder .

FrayedKnot · 09/07/2008 19:45

It does sound lovely Idris.

I have otoh been grumpy all afternoon.

I made flapjack and for some reason thought it would be a good idea to line the tin with greaSEproof paper (why??) and the flapjack is all stuck to the papaer

DS has been rather shouty and tantrummy for about a week now and I'm weary of it.
What do people do about shouting?

TooTicky · 09/07/2008 19:47

Ds2 is having problems seeing and reading. Turns out this is why he has been anxious about school lately and worried about having to do work
WHY don't young children just tell you things???!!!
So am now trying to chase consultant to see if I should be doing anything, also trying to find out how long we may have to wait for cataract referral.

TooTicky · 09/07/2008 19:50

Doesn't the paper just peel off?

Yes please Idris, that would be great I still have two enormous pairs.

FrayedKnot · 09/07/2008 19:57

Oh dear TooT well at least you have got to the bottom of it now so you can help him. I hope the consultant is helpful.

Have you spoken to the school?

No the flapjack was well and truly stuck.

Actually it may have been me who was shouty and tantrummy today

Boco the Head is taking the p.

TooTicky · 09/07/2008 20:22

Oh dear FK, are you pre-menstrual too?

TooTicky · 09/07/2008 20:24

Yes, I spoke to his teacher today. She is lovely and is going to do some finding out.

FrayedKnot · 09/07/2008 20:35

No TooT..well, unless you count 10 days to go as pre-menstrual

Oh, actually..that's when my PMS usually starts

FrannyandZooey · 09/07/2008 20:42

we have to start shutting now as the doula is going at 3 am
I don't reckon I can have it by then even if I start now

FK I do all kinds of things, but I think a GOOD thing is to say "oh dear you sound very cross. Can you tell me why you are cross and I'll see if I can help?"
The problem is that shouting etc is very antisocial behaviour and I think we think we must squash it. But expressing anger is a sensible thing to do and we shouldn't always bottle it up. Also shouting is loads better than hitting etc. But I struggle with the whole thing because shouting seems like being naughty - which isn't right, really, is it?

FrannyandZooey · 09/07/2008 20:43

TooT am glad you have found out now at least. Would it not be normal to be still having some problems at this stage? Did they think his sight would be back to what it was by now?
