For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Ooh I love Chumba, ooh, lovely
I have a fab photo of me with Chumba - me looking very smug and them looking nervous
I also love Nick Harper as I know we have discussed in depth before FMF
I wouldn't mind ingesting a bit of Nick Harper fnarrrr

we say trumps

have had horrid kind of meal at the sports centre but ds begged to for a treat. Every week I say "oh maybe next week" and today I thought "hold on hopefully I will not BE here next week". Actually it wasn't that horrid. But not much veg.

Ds doing really well at gymnastics now. He has found a friend and they sit and cuddle and he tickles her and picks her up and things. She is probably the most smiley little girl I have ever seen.

I went to gym and did 45 mins of weights and swiss ball. [knackered but not bored for a change]

oh I think book list at Waterstones sounds v sensible in the situation Lully

LittleRach that sounds a bit blackmaily of your friend. Why should she withdraw?

OP posts:
UnderRated · 07/07/2008 19:05

Littlerach - she sounds very insecure. Don't feel bad if she decides to withdraw

pinkspottywellies · 07/07/2008 19:33

My bedtime routine with dd is positively un-routine compared to all yours. Bath, or not. Stories, various, varying number. Songs, or not. Cuddle, or not (currently not - she has my pillow and just want to leap straight in bed!) Milk in bed is the only definite part!

Good F&V intake today. Banana, raisins, nuts and seeds, tomato & cuc (1), radish and lettuce (1), apple juice, apple, dried apricots, carrots, spinach, peach. 10 and will probably munch on some more fruit tonight. No exercise to speak of though except walking. Oh and a clemen-tyne.

I think I might be a little iron deficient. Is it right that vitamin C helps you absorb iron? And if so do carrots have vitamin C? Enough to be of use? I had a clemen-tyne after the spinach in case the carrots weren't going to do the job!

We seem to get present from my Dad and step mum that are too old for dd. Like sets with lots of small pieces (of plastic tat!) We haven't yet had the joy of parties and lots of presents from friends.

TigerFeet · 07/07/2008 19:40

TooT dd's eye was switched off due to undiagnosed longsightedness, we are making excellent progress with patches now that she has glasses and is now using the eye well. She has been wearing glasses for 8 months and we have been patching for 4 or 5 months and will probably continue to patch for another 4 or 5 months.

Pink you are quite right, vitamin C helps iron absorption. Caffeine based drinks inhibit it (I think, or it might just be tea, I can't remember). Spatone in a glass of orange juice may well be the way to go.

Littlerach is she trying to passively agressively trying to get you to withdraw your application? How very unfair. The best candidate (you, obv ) should get the job regardless of the number of applicants or their previous experience.

at festy and bandy stuff

FrannyandZooey · 07/07/2008 19:42

yes tannins inhibit iron absorption so don't have with tea, also calcium apparently inhibits it, so if taking supplement / iron rich food try not to have milk / cereal for half an hour either side

orange juice and spatone highly recommended here

OP posts:
TigerFeet · 07/07/2008 19:50

Ahhh yes tannins -I knew caffeine wasn't right but also knew there was a reason you couldn't knock back an iron tablet with a nice cuppa

UnderRated · 07/07/2008 19:52

So taking my iron supplement with a cup of milky tea is not a good idea? Oh dear, I thought I was doing some good.

pinkspottywellies · 07/07/2008 19:59

Didn't want to go as far as spatone just yet, but thought I'd try to up my iron rich food consumption. What else has vitamin C apart from oranges then?

pinkspottywellies · 07/07/2008 20:01

Ah... 'Vitamin C, also know as ascorbic acid, is found in a wide variety of fruit and vegetables. Good sources include peppers, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes, oranges and kiwi fruit' from FSA website.

TigerFeet · 07/07/2008 20:20

Brassicas are good, they contain both iron and vit c. You aren't far from me are you Pink (Lincs) - nip out and help yourself to a nice savoy cabbage from a field

pinkspottywellies · 07/07/2008 20:33

filthymindedvixen · 07/07/2008 20:39

LittRach - my job came about because I was volunteering. In fact it has happneed to me twice! It's great, you go for it!

I have just has a 3 hour nap! (3 very late/noisy nights have done for me. Am trying very hard to fill myself up with fruity goodness after 3 days of eating very little. And crap at that.
Melon, strawberries, crisps, mange touts, green beans, spinach, onion. Orange juice.

Boco · 07/07/2008 20:43

Gah! My Latitude plans are unraveling because of gossiping BOYS! My brother has really dropped me in it, put dp in a foul mood, and jeapordised my festival going!

Am supposed to be going with very old school friend and her mother - they offered me the free ticket to work with them. Dp had a drunken weekend with my brother where he repeated some ancient gossip that her mother had said to my mother - my brother told her brother, her brother told her and her mum and now they're apparently cross and friend isn't answering my emails. I cant' even broach this whole thing with her because it's a bit - silly and embarrasing for her. And for me. Bloody hell, I want to know what's going on. Stupid brother and stupid dp.

pinkspottywellies · 07/07/2008 20:44

I volunteered for the company I worked for before getting the job (although not doing the same job but managing the volunteers). It's a great way of getting in and opens other avenues for you in the same sort of field. The job I do now, I got because of the volunteering experience. Good luck with it! When are the interviews?

FrannyandZooey · 07/07/2008 20:48

oh lord @ gossip
how embarrassing

OP posts:
TigerFeet · 07/07/2008 20:49

DH works for a grower and therefore has licence to help himself from fields - he doesn't though, but he does get stuff from work, mainly whats left over once all the orders have been packed

UnderRated · 07/07/2008 20:51

I'm curious about this gossip now.

Agree that volunteering is v good way of getting a paid job. I've been offered a paid position with free accomodation twice at the place I volunteer at but I can't accept it because I'm still not allowed to earn money

UnderRated · 07/07/2008 22:03

We made Jam from homegrown raspberries [smug grin]

Guadalupe · 07/07/2008 22:08

yum, I love raspberry jam. I have been thinking about making beetroot chutney as I have lots of beetroots and I like it with makerel and cheese.

UR - did you used to camp at stiffkey or go out crabbing for the day?

pinkspottywellies · 07/07/2008 22:13

Hi MrsC, glad you had a lovely time. Did you get your seatbelts sorted out? Was there a carnival or something in Norwich that you were talking about earlier?

pinkspottywellies · 07/07/2008 22:19

Must stop calling you MrsC. Is Guad here to stay?

Guadalupe · 07/07/2008 22:19

no, nothing has been done in the van yet. We just went, a friend brought the dcs out, and it was fine. Sometimes there was a bit of blue smoke but it soon settled down.

It was the lord mayor's procession, lots of floats and dancing and feathers and noise and sweets and charity buckets. Then there was a fair and music and fireworks in the park but we didn't go to this as we were knackered.

UnderRated · 07/07/2008 22:20

Yum - I bet beetroot chutney is fab. Especially with cheese.

We always camped at Stiffkey. Since I was about 7. Every year. And we'd crab off the bridge, walk out to see the seals, collect Samphire, jump over the creeks and watch the spring tides... I love it there. It is so peaceful (apart from rowdy campers) and I always hoped that when I die, my family would scatter my ashes on the marsh at sunset. Is that a bit morbid?

berolina · 07/07/2008 22:21

Peach, apple, banana this afternoon, then the roast and yellow-courg sauce. I think 9 or 10 today.

Oh dear littlerach, she does sound insecure. Don't feel bad.

Oh dear, Boco. How annoying and really quite petty of them (although am curious at gossip too).
