For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

You don't sound like you're flapping, Toot. It's scary when DC are ill.

TooTicky · 17/06/2008 19:23

fmf, would love to try but seriously think somebody else would do a better job
Aren't you arty?

Who offered me carrot seeds? [confused but grateful] Yes please!

TigerFeet · 17/06/2008 19:24

Tepid sponges work well ime, and if you're getting fluids into him then that should help too.

may I ask why you don't give calpol? Not in a judgemental manner at all, I'm genuinely interested.

Glad Lego Man refunded, Avi. I don;t know why people think anyone will want their filthy, broken things. Someone 'donated' shoes to our playgroup and they all had holes in them.

stuffitllama · 17/06/2008 19:50

toot have been arguing with my family instead of being with sensible people here
how's the bairn ?

stuffitllama · 17/06/2008 19:53

I would do exactly as you've done but tbh possibly not the sponging, more a wrapped up with an open window sort of person myself

and keep irritating them by testing their chin to their chest

stuffitllama · 17/06/2008 19:58

hello all i haven't really finished arguing, this is just a respite (or resPITT) as some people say

so far, six, made up of nectarines, kiwi, red beans, mushrooms, onions, green beans, tomato and broccoli. moonie has done good. Like UR, have been better mooded with myself due to f&v intake. UR like your pics they are really really good. I am going to look at your garden photos zippi . Also glad re money he turned out to be quite nice really, Lego man?

is this really badly written or is it just me

stuffitllama · 17/06/2008 19:59

Ho to the family dispute resolution.

pinkspottywellies · 17/06/2008 20:06

Plum, satsuma, raisins, seeds, cuc, tomato, leek and potato soup, marsicecream

I am ironing tonight. Boo

fullmoonfiend · 17/06/2008 20:11

TooT - those strip ones can be a bit inaccurate.

the things to watch out for is non-resposniveness (which is hard when they are tired), paleness and a non-blanching rash, and very cold hands/feet.

Other thn that, a temperature is worrying but Ok unless it is consistently high for a couple of days.

Sore neck can be swollen glands (feel for pea-lumps under ears) sometimes children say they have a sore neck but they mean a sore throat.

Don't overdo the sponging as if they are feeling cold, it makes them feel worse and can even raise body temp. Use Lukewarm water not cool. Strip down to pants and cover with a sheet.

Plenty of fluids (ice lollies! )

Guadalupe · 17/06/2008 20:13

the strips are often inaccurate, if you are not going to use paracetomol to bring down the temp it is worth buying a proper one so you don't panic and worry if they are really that hot.

FrannyandZooey · 17/06/2008 20:52

sweetcorn, carrots, some kind of greenness which I don't know what it was, from our veg box
and a great big plodge of macaroni cheese

oh 4 satsumas

chipswatermelon, cherries.

LullyOfShallot · 17/06/2008 21:13

Oh Toot
I'm not a calpol giver either
Ds often runs a temp of 105-107

ditto strip/tepid sponge, flannel around back of neck is good
plenty of fluids
Belladonna
How is he now?

Guadalupe · 17/06/2008 21:40

107??

Really, Lully, isn't that supposed to be lethal? Why does he get so hot?

Mrs C..the first time was on his first birthday with scarlett fever & I was absolutely quaking, but he seems to run these kind of temps every time he is ill for 48 hrs or so & then is fine.
Some children just do run enormous temps
It's horrible tho

FrannyandZooey · 17/06/2008 21:56

sorry avi I forgot to say glad you got a result with the lego
disappointing for you that it wasn't nicer
I am still trying to air out this fricking baby doll I bought for ds which stank of smoke
it is about 3/4 there now I reckon
you will think I am mad for keeping it and not getting another one, but it was a special one I particularly wanted for him and could not find anywhere in the shops
I am so hoping he will be pleased - have ordered washable dolls nappies too - not so nice as the Fluffles MrsC but quite cute

OP posts:
LullyOfShallot · 17/06/2008 21:59

Ah is that what the dolls clothes were for?

Guadalupe · 17/06/2008 22:02

lol at fluffles for the doll

blimey, Lully, that must be awful. I imagine you can barely touch him at that temp.

Hope yours are better soon, Toot.
