For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Pink the slugs have had three of my beans

Only one is still bravely soldiering on

I have kept them off my courgettes so far by putting loads of shredded paper around the bottoms of them.....I think you can do with straw but shredded paper was all I had

The aubergines I planted in pots with basil and tomatoes have been ignored, but the ones on their own hav been nibbled.

I don;t think pots make that much difference. You could also use grit or eggshells around the base of them?

Is it chocolate, cheesecake and wine

or

Chocolate cheesecake and wine?

I have that headache too Avi, every single month, without fail. Sometimes it lasts just a day and sometimes 3-4 days. It's horrible. I wonder if there is something to take that might help...?

Remind me Avi, how old is DS?

FrayedKnot · 16/06/2008 22:07

Yes, Avi, almost always as my period finishes, so about day 6 for me. Very occasionally it appears just before instead.

I actually find myself planning around them now because I know I will feel sh*t.

How old will DS be, Avi?

UR, here

Chocolate cheesecake and chocolate and cheesecake. Will try the straw thing for my beans just in case. Thanks FK.

Pass the parcel Avi? Musical bumps? What about a treasure hunt? With picture clues? [rubbish at party game ideas]

Thinking of you UR.

Last year, when DD was 3, I did a messy play type party. I baked lots of biscuits, using lots of different biscuit cutters, mixed up icing, coloured with paste colours, and supplied lots of sweets for decoration. Children got biscuits on paper plates to decorate, and then got to take them home as party bag. Just taped one paper plate over the other to transport home. Boys and Girls alike, they loved it. (I warned parents to bring aprons/come in old clothes).

We have also had successes with pass the parcel, and musical statues and simon says.

Can recommend a coconut shy - was great - just 3 broom handles pained with red and white stripes and stuck into the ground. Stuck camera film containers on the top and balanced the coconuts on them - so v easy for small people to knock them off. The children loved it. Also had pin the tail on the rhino and throw hoops at ducks in a paddling pool, although the ducks were not seaworthy and kept floating face down so that didn't really take off.

zippitippitoes · 16/06/2008 22:44

i wish there was something to help too UR

zippitippitoes · 16/06/2008 22:46

have to have a good sized garden tho

i remember it from when i was little

i ahev been climbing

TooTicky · 16/06/2008 22:48

Avi, if they come in old clothes, could they not have an outdoor painting session? Lots of running through paint and generally forbidden mayhem? It's a difficult age to organise things for.
When we were doing our fabric printing in the garden this morning dd2 painted her legs with dioxazine purple acrylic paint

UR - if there is ever anything that any one of us can do, you have only to say....

Fmf, that sounds like a dangerous vegetable. I googled it - it is quite attractive, isn't it? Also known as bitter melon and good for regulating bodily functions apparently. You can even get capsules for those who can't stand to eat it

For dinner I had a goodly 2 or 3 portions of salad including homegrown lettuce (3 types), tomato, cucumber, mung bean sprouts, spring onions and homegrown parsley. Also fabulous new potatoes with homegrown dill.

Have walked 4 miles and taken dcs swimming.

LullyOfShallot · 16/06/2008 22:59

musical islands/cushions/hats

memory game

cut pics into 4 jigsaw pieces & hide/find/assemble

cut up coloured wool & distribute around garden..find as much as you can
give one snap card to each child & hunt for the matching card
balloon games

womblingalong · 16/06/2008 23:20

We did a game when I was little where we had apples tied to strings, and you had to try and take a bite without using your hands - v difficult.

What about face painting?

Also, stand up/sit down?

Chicken, leek & rocket risotto with watercress and tomato salad, strawberries (4) F&V Total 10, Hurrah, and 40mins walking! Off to bed, night all.

UnderRated · 17/06/2008 03:50

Well, I should be thankful that the slugs have not (yet) eaten my beans/ peas (can't remember what I planted but I suspect they are peas)

Thank you for all the good wishes. Today was a bad one. I don?t understand why I had to fight so hard in court for my DS to be allowed to go to his best friend's birthday party. Why can't his Dad just let him go? I don't see what there is to fight about. He?s 3. He should be allowed to go. This was just the start of the arguing today. It pretty much went downhill from my tearful begging with attorneys. I hate this sooo much. I can?t believe something is worth all this. But he is. I will fight to the very end for him. I just don?t think I should have to.

On the plus side, I have discovered I can draw a bit. Pics on my profile. I impressed myself. Am by no means suggesting I am artistic or creative - I only copied, but I am quite pleased with myself

We had a strawberry from our garden today. Just the one. DS was so thrilled that he had grown it "all by self"

Deffo musical statues/ puddles/ cushions or something. And dancing. And Simon Says. For 3 yr old party.
