Handhold if anyone’s around? Scan yesterday at 5pm, GP called this morning

Wondering if anyone has any experience/insights?
Late 40s, on HRT. Cycle usually still rock solid, horrendously heavy, except for last few (2-3) months - spotting, random bleeds, periods when not due. Bit of pelvic discomfort.
Went to GP, but kind of hoped assumed it was the beginning of the end of periods and just the timing going haywire/and to find out how I should be taking progesterone as had previously been on that Day 15-28 and cycle being out of whack meant that that regime was going to be hard to do. GP said she could feel something on the left hand side. Recent CA125 was fine, recent smear was clear ‘but cervix is very red’. My cervix has always defied medical science (that’s another story) so wasn’t unduly worried. They upped progesterone to 200mg daily, put me on the 2 week wait for internal/external US. It’s been 5 weeks 😬but I had the US last night after 5 o’clock. Sonographer was rummaging around for ages (over 30 mins) and made a point of saying the GP will be in touch, but if they aren’t, you must contact them. I know they usually can’t/don’t say much. Told myself that it was good that the tests have been done and that I’d hear in due course, not to worry in the meantime. Then this morning I have had 3 calls from the GP before 10am, which I missed as was in a work meeting with phone off. I called them back and they asked me to come in at noon. So now of course I am absolutely shitting myself, and have self-diagnosed with every gynae cancer going.
Don’t know what I’m asking for really, other than a handhold, and if anyone has had similar happen and it turned out to be something that wasn’t nefarious. I feel lucky that at least I find out what’s going on this morning but the speed at which they’ve followed up is terrifying me 😧Speculation of course, but I can’t help but feel that if this was, I dunno, fibroids, there wouldn’t be this level of urgency this morning

I just want to say I have never been so pleased for a stranger! I was reading through this thread with so much hope that you would come back with good news. Wow, what a strong and amazing lady you are. You articulate yourself beautifully!
I am so very pleased that this is all treatable and I wish you and your family a wonderful Christmas! Sending a huge virtual hug your way xx

ShearBoredom · 18/12/2025 08:29

I love a happy ending! Great news xx

Tryonemoretime · 18/12/2025 08:31

What wonderful news. Happy Christmas!

BatshitCrazyWoman · 18/12/2025 08:31

Brilliant news! Take all the time you need for recovery after surgery, there are no prizes for rushing things (I'm saying that as someone who was changing cat litter and hauling a big bag of said litter around, about 5 days after a different kind of surgery. I didn't use my operated side 😬 but it wasn't advisable. I didn't harm myself, but I might have. I live alone, so I didn't have much choice in what I did. If you have people to Do it All, take advantage of that!!)

Wishing you well, and have a lovely Christmas 🎄

RunsABit · 18/12/2025 08:32

Fabulous news OP, I'm so pleased for you. Enjoy a bloody brilliant Christmas!

olderandnonthewiser · 18/12/2025 08:48

Oh bloody hell OP. How.Bloody. Fab.

Am so pleased for you xx

Wheresthebeach · 18/12/2025 08:53

Wonderful news OP. So pleased it wasn't anything sinister. Very glad they are taking it all out, the suggestions from the NHS consultant seems insane - why in the world would they leave it in there?

I've had a full hysterectomy, open surgery, to remove two very large borderline cysts and recovery is very long. You'll get there, but plan to take it easy and don't rush it or you'll just set yourself back.

Marvellous news
Go to your GP now and talk about HRT
Ask for a prescription, you don't want to face that after your operation.
Hope everything goes smoothly and you recover quickly.

pinkchampagne1 · 18/12/2025 09:19

I meant a canteloupe sized lump sounds bloody awful, but hoorah regardless!
Enjoy your Congo!

BingBongMerrilyWithPie · 18/12/2025 09:48

So happy for you.

The difference in treatment plans is frankly terrifying. That private appt might just be the best money you ever spend.

ClairDeLaLune · 18/12/2025 09:54

Wonderful news OP! So pleased for you. Also, you write so well, you should be a writer!

I’ve got two friends who have had the same op as you, one of them had a massive fibroid too (the other a massive cyst), they had everything removed via a vertical cut. Do not underestimate how major this op is, it took them a long time to recover but recover they did. So look after yourself! They were given HRT straightaway, because otherwise they would’ve been violently plunged into the menopause, so make sure you get that covered.

Have a fantastic Christmas OP, you deserve it!

Letsgoforaskip · 18/12/2025 09:58

Delighted for you OP .
Enjoy that bullhorn!
Very happy to Conga with you all👯👯‍♀️👯‍♀️👯‍♀️👯‍♀️💃🏼🕺🪩

I'm so happy for you op 💜 I know the past few weeks must have been hell for you but I'm chuffed that you got good news. I hope you have a fabulous Christmas and New year, wishing you all the best with surgery xx

Countryfiler · 18/12/2025 10:22

So so happy to read this. I’ve been following but not commenting but what a lovely Christmas you are going to have. And I’m seconding the thank goodness for private insurance. We have it through our business but will continue it if not still done that way. We also pay it for DD and her husband too.

Good luck for the surgery, and obey instructions afterwards or the mumsnet police will come after you!

spiderlight · 18/12/2025 10:24

That is the BEST news!! I never thought I'd be celebrating a giant rotting fibroid!

Purplecatshopaholic · 18/12/2025 10:25

I’ve been following this thread and came on to check how you are doing. So bloody pleased for you op. Have an awesome Christmas and keep us posted re how you are doing.

Have just read your full thread - what a rollercoaster and huge congratulations on your results! Have a fantastic Christmas!⛄ xx

Marmaladelover · 18/12/2025 10:49

Great news ! But I would also ask for a second opinion on what to do re NHS suggestion . I was in a similar position and pushed for the full hysterectomy which I did get .

monty2020 · 18/12/2025 10:53

This has made my day, congratulations 🥳 my poor mum is sadly end of life in a hospital full of Covid and I am trying to hold myself together . All I want for Christmas is her out of hospital 🎄

SaltedCaramelBlondie · 18/12/2025 10:59

Absolutely thrilled for you, OP! Wishing you all the best for your operation in the new year, hope it all goes well.
