Handhold if anyone’s around? Scan yesterday at 5pm, GP called this morning

Wondering if anyone has any experience/insights?
Late 40s, on HRT. Cycle usually still rock solid, horrendously heavy, except for last few (2-3) months - spotting, random bleeds, periods when not due. Bit of pelvic discomfort.
Went to GP, but kind of hoped assumed it was the beginning of the end of periods and just the timing going haywire/and to find out how I should be taking progesterone as had previously been on that Day 15-28 and cycle being out of whack meant that that regime was going to be hard to do. GP said she could feel something on the left hand side. Recent CA125 was fine, recent smear was clear ‘but cervix is very red’. My cervix has always defied medical science (that’s another story) so wasn’t unduly worried. They upped progesterone to 200mg daily, put me on the 2 week wait for internal/external US. It’s been 5 weeks 😬but I had the US last night after 5 o’clock. Sonographer was rummaging around for ages (over 30 mins) and made a point of saying the GP will be in touch, but if they aren’t, you must contact them. I know they usually can’t/don’t say much. Told myself that it was good that the tests have been done and that I’d hear in due course, not to worry in the meantime. Then this morning I have had 3 calls from the GP before 10am, which I missed as was in a work meeting with phone off. I called them back and they asked me to come in at noon. So now of course I am absolutely shitting myself, and have self-diagnosed with every gynae cancer going.
Don’t know what I’m asking for really, other than a handhold, and if anyone has had similar happen and it turned out to be something that wasn’t nefarious. I feel lucky that at least I find out what’s going on this morning but the speed at which they’ve followed up is terrifying me 😧Speculation of course, but I can’t help but feel that if this was, I dunno, fibroids, there wouldn’t be this level of urgency this morning

Handholding with all the others here. Hoping it goes well.

Seawolves · 21/11/2025 11:53

Good luck, I hope it's just a bit of something and nothing that is easy to fix.

CautiousLurker2 · 21/11/2025 12:02

Had similar heavy bleed recently - my menopause was 3 years ago. It turned out to be due to my still being on mounjaro and starting HRT. The MJ impacted the absorption of the progesterone and was causing regular heavy bleeding. Had the mirena fitted since and all resolved. Just mentioned because of your reference to HRT/Progesterone dose bing increased - and in case you are taking MJ/Ozempic?

Was scary at the time - they immediately sent me down the cancer pathway (had internal scans the lot) until the female health clinic contacted me to explain that it was HRT related, really common, and fixable.

Hope whatever is happening to you turns out to be something innocuous.

spiderlight · 21/11/2025 12:08

You'll be in with the GP now but I'm just squeezing in to offer another hand to hold.

Hi @GiveOverWillYou I have had similar with erratic bleeding.

Had an ultrasound internal scan at hospital, all seemed to be OK.
I was shocked when the GP called me at 6.30 the same night to say I had to go in to see her next day to talk about the results.
My words of comfort are - DON'T PANIC (I know it's hard not to xx)
So then I was given an appointment at hospital for a hysteroscopy and biopsy. The lining of my womb was too thick for my age apparently. Pre-meno hyperplasia.
All results came back fine, and GP altered my HRT.
Hopefully you will find it's that, or a cyst or a polyp causing your problems. If it's anything sinister they will catch it in time (happened to my older sister).

The NHS sets a 2-week window to investigate all unexpected bleeding, which is why it feels scary and urgent.
Try to keep in mind that they are looking after you xxx
Take care.

I’ve been round this loop three times in the last 2 years. Erratic bleeding (also hadn’t take the protective progesterone) ref on 2 week path way - US first, then a few weeks later anhysteroscopy with biopsy.

Biopsy results look 6 weeks to come back so all in was nearly 3 weeks of waiting and anxiety to get the all clear.

I suspect you have few more investigations to go through. I wish you the best.

Hope you're ok OP. That feeling that everything is out of your hands, is really awful. FlowersFlowersFlowers

LizzieSiddal · 21/11/2025 12:34

Just wanted to say my sister had a very similar experience although this was with her colon.
She was sent to hospital for a colonoscopy a couple of days after a Drs appointment for “urgent” checks as the Dr could “feel” something. It was actually a benign polyp that had been bleeding, this was removed at the time as the colonoscopy.
Fingers crossed for you and wishing you all the best Flowers

Topjoe19 · 21/11/2025 12:36

I hope all is ok OP xx

NewCushions · 21/11/2025 12:38

I know it's terrifying when you get that super rapid call from the GP (we're all so programmed to expect to wait weeks!), but I speak from experience (different to yours) that it's often something that needs to be dealt with promptly, but not often something that is insurmountable.

I got rapid escalation for pain in left breast- turned out out to be nothing.
I got rapid escalation for a concerning mole - was rapidly removed, with no longer-term issues
I had the emergency call from DR post blood tests when pregnant - it was urgent, with potentially bad outcomes, but 100% manageable and was actioned and dealt with.

Thinking of you!

Realisation14 · 21/11/2025 12:39
