I've always had awful BO - now Mitchum isn't something I can use, I am back to bad BO 😫

Grrr. I hate my armpits they've always been the bane of my life 😩

I used Mitchum for literally 30-odd years and my pits were ok. I could wear tight tops or synthetic materials without worrying. I'd occasionally wear sleeveless tops if I was out somewhere or at a work do and was worried about smelling, but i could generally get by and be ok.

Now, after I had horrible burns from that recent bad batch of Mitchum, I am pretty scared to use their stuff. I've been using Sure instead which has been olk, but ive been noticing it definitely not as strong and I do whiff a bit more than I used to with Mitchum.

It's getting me down a bit now, having to think what I can/can't wear in winter to stay warm without being stinky, or looking a bit mad wearing summer sleeveless tops and freezing my arse off as I dont want to smell.

I just want normal pits with less potenf BO and an ability to wear anything without being worried about the risk of being stinky! 😫😳

Bloody perimenopause doesn't help either. Sorry for the moan, I know it's a kind of trivial health issue in some ways.

If it was just a bad batch unlikely to happen again just use mitchum again. I use the gel and find it really good.

LuckyCharmz · 22/10/2025 18:12

Do you wash using bar soap, not shower gel? Breaks down the bacteria better apparently and stops the smell:

Liondoesntsleepatnight · 22/10/2025 18:13

I’ve been using the original Dove, with a blue lid, applying it more than once a day. Like you I got chemical burns, “minor irritation” didn’t describe my pits!

Londonmummy66 · 22/10/2025 18:15

Triple Dry is a lot better than Mitchum but yes also use bar soap.

Yes, I use "proper" soap bars and scrub with a flannel. It is literally just the way my genetic make up is I suppose, so I try to accept it as it is, but I do get frustrated with the way my clothes tend to eventually smell even after being washed. The smell kind of permanent ingrains itself into the armpits and it drives me mad lol 😆

Switch to mitchum cream stick. Very gentle on the skin and very effective

BoringBarbie · 22/10/2025 18:17

It should be fine now they've identified the issue. I called them to ask about it and they are sending me a voucher for £7 apparently, and also gave me the batch numbers to avoid.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 22/10/2025 18:18

I am still using Mitchum, from one of the safe batches, @ForeverDelayedEpiphany, and I can promise you I’ve had no issues whatsoever.

ThisCanFuckOffToo · 22/10/2025 18:19

I’ve bought Mitchum since the incident and it’s the same as it ever was and works just as well.

mumofpickles · 22/10/2025 18:19

Another vote for the Mitchum cream stick

Use a bath sponge, preferably an African net sponge (you can get them on Amazon). Try clay masks on your armpits.

Driclor, only needs applying once every few days and works like a miracle!

Muffinbutton · 22/10/2025 18:23

Do you wear polyester? That can make you both sweat more and the sweat smell more.
I stopped wearing a lot of polyester clothes and that definitely helped me.

Wolfwhistles · 22/10/2025 18:28

Thirding the Mitchum stick rather than the roll on.

I try to avoid synthetic materials but it seems a lot of clothes these days are made of all the stuff I don't want to wear ie polyester, acrylic, nylon etc. I can't afford really expensive brands either so generally stick to high street which is obviously cheaper and therefore a lot more synthetic than I'd like 😬

I'm just going to need to try the Mitchum again, aren't I...😩

Try Driclor, it’s amazing.
Or Pepsi-guard maximum strength, that’s very gentle

P1550FF · 22/10/2025 18:31

Do you suffer from extreme stress/anxiety? Apparently stress sweat is thicker with more lipids so it smells worse when it comes into contact with bacteria on the skin.
I do my armpits last in the shower now because even the heat can make me sweat for the remainder of the shower.

SiouxWarrior · 22/10/2025 18:34

Have you tried washing your pits with lemon or bicarbonate of soda. Make a paste with bicarbonate of soda leave under your pits for 5-7 minutes then scrub with soap. I do this every once in a while and it helps a lot. If you use lemon quarter it and rub your pits with it and leave on for 5-7 minutes . Then scrub!

Hankunamatata · 22/10/2025 18:34

Iv been debating trying sweat guards/dress guards and feel like im sweating buckets. Figure least be able to change them through the day if needed

MagpiePi · 22/10/2025 18:36

Soak your clothes in a vinegar solution before washing. This worked for me with two stinky teenage gym goers.
I put them in the machine, pour in about a cup of vinegar, turn the machine in and let it swish around for a few minutes until everything is thoroughly soaked, then turn it off and leave it for about an hour. Then wash as normal.

GiantTeddyIsTired · 22/10/2025 18:37

I tried one of those 'natural' deodorants, and quite liked it, but didn't like the price tag, so I made one with mango butter/arrowroot/bicarb/coconut oil according to a recipe I found on the internet - and somehow, I'm less stinky than I was when I used normal deodorant, and no more sweaty.

In fact, the other day I'd run out, so whacked on whatever roll-on it was that was left in the cupboard, and by the end of the day I was whiffy in a way I've not been in months - I wondered what was going on until I realised I'd used normal deodorant that day.

I also usually used mitchum as I get super-sweaty when speaking in meetings, but, for some reason I can't figure out, my pits are just much, much better with this home-made stuff!

Obviously YMMV, but I recommend the non-chemical stuff!

GiantTeddyIsTired · 22/10/2025 18:38

Oh! and for clothes, my son's PE kit has been transformed by using a steam generating iron and giving the pits of his shirts a good steam after every wash - the first time I did it, on fresh washed clothes, with hygiene wash and those scent pearls the steam absolutely stank, but by the 2nd time through the steam must have pulled out whatever was hanging around and now they smell fine

WhereAreWeNow · 22/10/2025 18:41

You're already using soap and flannel. Have you tried wiping armpits with glycolic acid and letting dry before applying deodorant?
Also agree with other posters that it was only a few batches of Mitchum affected and they were recalled. The stuff on the shelves now should all be fine.

Bumblebee0388 · 22/10/2025 18:44

Hi! You could consider treatment for axillary hyperhydrosis such as botox under your arms. However, it's likely to be expensive and botox only lasts 3-6 months depending on the person x

EmeraldShamrock000 · 22/10/2025 18:45

The sure deodorant bar is amazing..
