I've always had awful BO - now Mitchum isn't something I can use, I am back to bad BO 😫

Grrr. I hate my armpits they've always been the bane of my life 😩

I used Mitchum for literally 30-odd years and my pits were ok. I could wear tight tops or synthetic materials without worrying. I'd occasionally wear sleeveless tops if I was out somewhere or at a work do and was worried about smelling, but i could generally get by and be ok.

Now, after I had horrible burns from that recent bad batch of Mitchum, I am pretty scared to use their stuff. I've been using Sure instead which has been olk, but ive been noticing it definitely not as strong and I do whiff a bit more than I used to with Mitchum.

It's getting me down a bit now, having to think what I can/can't wear in winter to stay warm without being stinky, or looking a bit mad wearing summer sleeveless tops and freezing my arse off as I dont want to smell.

I just want normal pits with less potenf BO and an ability to wear anything without being worried about the risk of being stinky! 😫😳

Bloody perimenopause doesn't help either. Sorry for the moan, I know it's a kind of trivial health issue in some ways.

Antiperspirant is better than deodorant.

I’ve bought Mitchum since the incident and it’s the same as it ever was and works just as well.

Same.

I've bought one of the new roll on batches that came out since they all seemed to disappear from the shop shelves in the wake of the formula dramas and I have had no issues with it. It was back to the good old days!

Just be brave and give it a go. Nothing else works as well.

Yes, I use "proper" soap bars and scrub with a flannel. It is literally just the way my genetic make up is I suppose, so I try to accept it as it is, but I do get frustrated with the way my clothes tend to eventually smell even after being washed. The smell kind of permanent ingrains itself into the armpits and it drives me mad lol 😆

Have you tried halo sports wash? My husbands clothes used to also come out of the wash still smelling but after starting the sports wash the stink has gone. It’s quite gentle and non-bio. Interestingly he has also recently had armpit burns from Mitchum. He had a week off work so just went without deodorant at home ( which I didn’t mind, my parents never wore deodorant so the smell of BO reminds me of my childhood in a good way, both my parents were very athletic people so that’s just how the constantly smelled) to allow his armpits to heal. He then started using it again but made sure to allow it to fully dry (took about half an hour) before getting dressed so that his skin didn’t remain wet and delicate. So far, so good.

Triple Dry is a lot better than Mitchum but yes also use bar soap.

Another vote for Triple Dry. There's a whole world of next-level deodorants eg Perspiron, perspirex, driclor, perspi-guard etc
My favourite is triple dry, good for sensitive skin.

My mum always used soda crystals for smells. These days, I keep a bottle of liquid soda crystals by the machine. https://www.dri-pak.co.uk/cleaning-products/500ml-liquid-soda-crystal/

Quick squirt under arms of any whiffy clothing and into the machine as normal. Even better if I delay the wash by an hour, but not essential.

I have 2 teen girls who seem to suffer same levels of smell and smelly clothes as I do. Teen son doesn't seem to at all.

GreenFritillary · 23/10/2025 18:12

Trust. And it lasts for days.
And then I did an exclusion diet and cut out things I reacted badly to. It cured so many problems, including heavy sticky sweat.

CommonAsMucklowe · 23/10/2025 18:20

BO is caused by bacteria not sweat alone. Washing with a good hard soap such as Pears, Dettol or Shield (not Dove which is too mild) and not a shower gel will get rid of the bacteria and you won't smell. I've always been a sweaty betty but have never had a BO problem because my pits are squeaky clean.

WhatsInANameIWonder · 23/10/2025 18:26

Have you thought about getting Botox treatment (medically, via NHS). It stops the sweating and therefore the smell. Needs a repeat every 3 months, just like cosmetic Botox.

Soak clothes in the Dettol Laundry Cleanser for 24 hours, and then another couple of capfulls in the machine. Works miracles!

You should consult your Doctor as they may have alternative suggestions. Sometimes it can be caused by underlying medical issues (hormonal) that may need to be addressed. Stress and diet can also play a part. Mitchum hasn't been great for years albeit no-one seems to know why.

Mumoushka · 23/10/2025 19:05

I remember a product called Driclor. You only used it once a week. It was better than Mitchum but a little pricey. I ve just googled it and you can still get it. Might be worth looking into?

LBOCS2 · 23/10/2025 19:09

I have bizarrely deodorant resistant sweat too; I think it’s genetic as DM had the same problem. Mitchum worked for me for a while but then randomly stopped a few years ago - I swear by Triple Dry as well. It works so much better than other alternatives.

Granddama · 23/10/2025 19:11

I had an awful problem in my teens and Mom took me to the Doctor for advice. He advised using calamine lotion as a deoderant. It helped a lot. That said, this was in the late 50's when deodorant was not generally used.

Teevia · 23/10/2025 19:12

This is life changing

I also always put it on straight from the shower, even if just heading to bed, so my armpits never get a chance to smell, which means you remove risk of not quite washing smell off in shower, as it was never there to begin with!

Yes I use it sometimes

i use Mitchum stick but recently I tried the dove one which is like a cream and it seems ok

campista · 23/10/2025 19:26

I have recently discovered Malin and Goetz eucalyptus stick deodorant. It actually works.
Nothing else ever has. Well worth the price.

ninjahamster · 23/10/2025 19:27

I’ve also gone back to Mitchum with no issues.

DuchessofStaffordshire · 23/10/2025 19:31

I'm a terrible sweater! I run and train in the gym most days and would end up really stinky without a decent deodorant. I used to have to use the stronger ones that you apply the night before to clean pits. My husband started using Fussy and I was really sceptical but I tried it out and it actually works really well.....I'm amazed! I do also think it comes down to individual skin flora but it's definitely worth a try. I also only use Pears soap for cleaning my sweaty bits!

EmeraldShamrock000 · 22/10/2025 18:45

The sure deodorant bar is amazing..

Yes! Another vote for this. Previously Mitchum was the only thing that worked for me, but the Sure stick is so much better. It's called Maximum Protection. I wouldn't use anything else now

Whowahway123 · 23/10/2025 19:37

I’ve just ordered a discovery kit of AKT

Createausername1234 · 23/10/2025 19:42

I use regular hand saniters on my armpits using a cotton and it really helps with my BO.

SharonEllis · 23/10/2025 19:47

Im very sweaty and this is a complete game changer. It doesn't stop you sweating (which is more healthy) but you don't smell.

I would use dettol to clean under your arms or something antibacterial.

Dhokotera · 23/10/2025 19:51

Try making a paste with bicarbonate of soda and applying on your pits for ten minutes every other night. This should reduce the BO naturally. Best wishes.

I wouldn't advise this. It'll kill all the good bacteria and will irritate and dry the skin out.
