I've always had awful BO - now Mitchum isn't something I can use, I am back to bad BO 😫

Grrr. I hate my armpits they've always been the bane of my life 😩

I used Mitchum for literally 30-odd years and my pits were ok. I could wear tight tops or synthetic materials without worrying. I'd occasionally wear sleeveless tops if I was out somewhere or at a work do and was worried about smelling, but i could generally get by and be ok.

Now, after I had horrible burns from that recent bad batch of Mitchum, I am pretty scared to use their stuff. I've been using Sure instead which has been olk, but ive been noticing it definitely not as strong and I do whiff a bit more than I used to with Mitchum.

It's getting me down a bit now, having to think what I can/can't wear in winter to stay warm without being stinky, or looking a bit mad wearing summer sleeveless tops and freezing my arse off as I dont want to smell.

I just want normal pits with less potenf BO and an ability to wear anything without being worried about the risk of being stinky! 😫😳

Bloody perimenopause doesn't help either. Sorry for the moan, I know it's a kind of trivial health issue in some ways.

Not cheap but I've heard great things about AKT and they have a 30 day money back guarantee!

Have you looked into Botox? They inject it in your armpits and it is meant to help.

Walkingisgood · 24/10/2025 02:19

Been using Ban unscented roll-on for a year now, after developing noticeable BO for first time as a 30 year user of Mitchum, which had stopped being effective. I've found Ban better than Mitchum ever was, and it really lasts. From US, but available on Amazon UK at a fair price.

Muffinmam · 24/10/2025 03:00

I use rexona clinical protection. It’s a cream that you apply at night time.

It’s very expensive ($15) - but it’s the only thing that works for me - I’m in Australia and summers are brutal.

It’s cheaper on Amazon but I ordered weeks ago and they haven’t even shipped it yet.

FeralWoman · 24/10/2025 05:43

@Muffinmam Rexona is Sure in the UK. Rexona Clinical goes on special for half price regularly at the big two supermarkets and Chemist Warehouse.

Yes, I use "proper" soap bars and scrub with a flannel. It is literally just the way my genetic make up is I suppose, so I try to accept it as it is, but I do get frustrated with the way my clothes tend to eventually smell even after being washed. The smell kind of permanent ingrains itself into the armpits and it drives me mad lol 😆

Use enzyme stick remover on your clothes pits before you put them in the wash to break down the smell

SockFluffInTheBath · 24/10/2025 09:32

Sorry, not got time to rtft so apologies if duplication, but wash and dry the skin, soak cotton wool with distilled witch hazel and wipe over the skin before applying anti-perspirant. Minimises pong quite nicely.

Egg7 · 24/10/2025 09:33

Also persil wonderwash the odour defy one is really good. I find it gets all the sweaty smells out of my running clothes.

I try to avoid synthetic materials but it seems a lot of clothes these days are made of all the stuff I don't want to wear ie polyester, acrylic, nylon etc. I can't afford really expensive brands either so generally stick to high street which is obviously cheaper and therefore a lot more synthetic than I'd like 😬

I'm just going to need to try the Mitchum again, aren't I...😩

havent RTFP but do you use bicarb on your clothes before you wash them?
wet the armpits and rub some bicarb of soda on - goes kinda pasty... then leave it for at least 20min... and wash as normal. that helps with the clothing issue...

YourSpryWriter · 24/10/2025 10:15

The only thing that works for me is fussy. I have tried loads of different things and it's the only thing that seems to work.

BOorisitme · 24/10/2025 12:45

Someone suggested to me Persimmon soap and driclor deoderant.

I literally made the same post yesterday for help (hence the NC), I have ordered from Amazon

BeeKee · 24/10/2025 12:55

Swap to the mens spray. It is a game changer.

user1470226590 · 24/10/2025 13:23

On a different post one of the mumsnetter suggested Dettol bar soap exactly for this reason. I have been using it and it seems to be working but I am not on a level of noticing any BO. Worth trying though

user1470226590 · 24/10/2025 13:26

One of the.Mumsnet user suggested Dettol antibacterial bar soap on a similar post a while back. It is worth the shot

user1470226590 · 24/10/2025 13:27

A while back a Mumsnet user suggested Dettol antibacterial bar soap on a similar. It is worth the shot

PBandBanana · 24/10/2025 14:51

I’ve always been sweaty but I use Biosen. I still sweat BUT I don’t smell! Even while post-menopausal.

Loralaughs · 24/10/2025 14:52

I have sweated profusely since the menopause. The only thing that works for me is washing my armpits with an antibacterial hand wash and then using surgical spirit. I pour the surgical spirit into a spray bottle and a few sprays under each arm does the trick. I never smell of BO now!

BrendaSmall · 25/10/2025 09:27

I found Mitchum useless
I use this every day after I shower now

lilkitten · 25/10/2025 14:29

Is there anything stronger than Mitchum? A friend recommended it as the strongest they'd found, but I still sweat a lot. Luckily I don't smell strongly, but I can sometimes be sweating buckets and it didn't do the trick
