I've always had awful BO - now Mitchum isn't something I can use, I am back to bad BO 😫

Grrr. I hate my armpits they've always been the bane of my life 😩

I used Mitchum for literally 30-odd years and my pits were ok. I could wear tight tops or synthetic materials without worrying. I'd occasionally wear sleeveless tops if I was out somewhere or at a work do and was worried about smelling, but i could generally get by and be ok.

Now, after I had horrible burns from that recent bad batch of Mitchum, I am pretty scared to use their stuff. I've been using Sure instead which has been olk, but ive been noticing it definitely not as strong and I do whiff a bit more than I used to with Mitchum.

It's getting me down a bit now, having to think what I can/can't wear in winter to stay warm without being stinky, or looking a bit mad wearing summer sleeveless tops and freezing my arse off as I dont want to smell.

I just want normal pits with less potenf BO and an ability to wear anything without being worried about the risk of being stinky! 😫😳

Bloody perimenopause doesn't help either. Sorry for the moan, I know it's a kind of trivial health issue in some ways.

Have you considered the roll on that blocks the pores or botox. Due to menopause god damn it, I sweat in my groin but, no sweat in my armpits! I am looking have botox in that area.

FeralWoman · 22/10/2025 18:49

The Ordinary glycolic acid. Put it in a little travel sized pump spray bottle and put a few sprays on each armpit after your shower. Let it dry for a minute or so then apply your deodorant as normal. It really helps to reduce the BO by killing off some of the bacteria.

Mitchum are going back to making their products the old way so it should be safe again. Check the batch numbers to be sure.

Personally I have to reapply antiperspirant multiple times a day. I stink if I don’t. I wash using soap and exfoliating gloves, use glycolic acid then apply Mitchum Clinical gel. Once that’s dry I use a roll on antiperspirant over the top of it and reapply it multiple times a day.

Shirts get soaked in Napisan before washing to remove underarm stink. I have to do the same for my teen’s school shirts.

I hate legpit BO and sweat. I’ve had it for years. I find that applying some The Ordinary niacinamide there reduces the amount I sweat and helps fight the BO smell. I find glycolic acid way too harsh down there.

Thanks everyone, it's really useful getting good advice.

I think Mitchum do a natural coconut one which I will try.

Another vote for driclor. Just don't use it on freshly shaven skin as it does sting initially.

I no longer sweat in the areas that I've used it on. Once my body adjusted to it, I was able to reduce using it once a week.

It's remarkable stuff.

duffed · 22/10/2025 19:34

Have you tried the mitchum powder fresh deoderant stick, rather than the roll on? I get anxiety sweats when I speak to strangers, and this solved the big wet patches for me, and I smell lovely and fresh too.

I've tried other mitchum scents, including the mens but none of those work as well as the powder fresh one.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 22/10/2025 19:37

How old are you OP? Since I hit early 50s I've sweated more and it's been really stinky which has never happened previously. I now use Uriage roll on and it's miraculous, totally dry and not a hint of a smell...even if I forget to apply

Soupandaroll · 22/10/2025 19:38

Does your washing machine have a hygiene setting that steams the clothes at 60? I have found it brilliant at getting smells out of gym clothes and towels

Larryfell · 22/10/2025 19:40

@ForeverDelayedEpiphany get this to add to your washes it’s absolutely amazing at removing that baked in sweat smell from the armpits of things.

a decent cap full in the softener compartment. Miracle for all my gym stuff which stunk even after a wash.

aldis own brand is a deodorant and anti perspirant.
it’s really good, I’ve found it as good as mitchums.

LuckyCharmz · 22/10/2025 18:12

Do you wash using bar soap, not shower gel? Breaks down the bacteria better apparently and stops the smell:

I was going to say the same thing. Use proper bar soap, not shower gel.

IWouldLikeToKnow · 22/10/2025 19:48

I switched to Estrid roll on from the Mitchum sticks a few months ago. I felt it just wasn’t working as well as it used to. The Estrid is great. And smells great.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 22/10/2025 19:52

This is a list of the faulty batch numbers, if you check it's not one of those then you should be fine. https://www.mitchum.co.uk/roll-on-faqs.php

ParmaVioletTea · 22/10/2025 20:16

Well you should never wear anything synthetic.

It was a bad batch of Mitchum so maybe try it again?

I don’t have a problem but I do sweat a lot at the gym and I find the product Akt London is brilliant at stopping the sweat. It was made for and by stage performers who wear heavy costumes under bright lights. It’s very good and long lasting.

ParmaVioletTea · 22/10/2025 20:20

Primark does some pure cotton tops - T-shirts, long sleeve T-shirts and shirts. You really need to get rid of anything synthetic or with any percentage of synthetic fibre - it won’t wash clean but retains the smell.

LeftBoobGoneRogue · 22/10/2025 20:25

Try Halo Sports Wash laundry detergent to get rid of smells on clothes.

Octavia64 · 22/10/2025 20:29

I have found either the Dettol antibacterial soap or hibiscrub good for cleaning armpits.

you do need deodorant as well but it really cuts down the smell.

Shmee1988 · 22/10/2025 20:33

Ask your GP for a botox injection to remedy this. My brother had it done and its worked really well. Luckily he didnt smell but he sweats alot and his clothes were getting ruined.

CriticalOverthinking · 22/10/2025 20:34

naturally stinky here too, I’ve found pears soap and fussy deodorant work really well.
i have super sensitive skin too so am limited in which products i can use so these are gentle and affective.

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 22/10/2025 20:36

Hibiscrub in the shower and back on mitchum.

They recalled the "bad batches" so you should be all good.
I actually find fussy deodorant a crap texture but okay / only slightly worse than Mitcham. So maybe worth a try

applesss · 22/10/2025 20:39

I had chemical burns off a Mitchum cream stick about 18 months ago so I don’t recommend you try that. Personally, I’ve heard so many stories of others having reactions from Mitchum that aren’t included in the ‘bad batch’ codes.

I’ve been using AKT, it’s pricey but works really well for me. It’s in a little tube like a cream.

Whattododa · 22/10/2025 20:46

I see @WhereAreWeNow has recommended glycolic acid - I use salicylic Acid , same idea. Unclogs pores and breaks down bacteria. Try it!

FeatheryFlorence · 22/10/2025 20:50

I use Hibiscrub in the shower and it makes a huge difference.

WeNeedToTalkAboutIT · 22/10/2025 20:54

Those of you who are using hibiscrub - I really wouldn't, but since an internet stranger isn't going to stop you, can I please beg you to dilute it properly before use? It's bad for causing allergic reactions over time.

YesItsMe44 · 23/10/2025 00:57

Menopause changed my BO. I now wash with Dove antibacterial body wash and use LUME deodorant. Lume is great, and can last me up to 48 hours depending on activities/showering. I've just started using the body wash.
