I've always had awful BO - now Mitchum isn't something I can use, I am back to bad BO 😫

Grrr. I hate my armpits they've always been the bane of my life 😩

I used Mitchum for literally 30-odd years and my pits were ok. I could wear tight tops or synthetic materials without worrying. I'd occasionally wear sleeveless tops if I was out somewhere or at a work do and was worried about smelling, but i could generally get by and be ok.

Now, after I had horrible burns from that recent bad batch of Mitchum, I am pretty scared to use their stuff. I've been using Sure instead which has been olk, but ive been noticing it definitely not as strong and I do whiff a bit more than I used to with Mitchum.

It's getting me down a bit now, having to think what I can/can't wear in winter to stay warm without being stinky, or looking a bit mad wearing summer sleeveless tops and freezing my arse off as I dont want to smell.

I just want normal pits with less potenf BO and an ability to wear anything without being worried about the risk of being stinky! 😫😳

Bloody perimenopause doesn't help either. Sorry for the moan, I know it's a kind of trivial health issue in some ways.

I sometimes get weird smelling sweat since menopause and I’ve found that tea tree and/or lavender oil are good for washing under your arms - just add a couple of drops to your soap lather. I guess it’s because BO is caused by bacteria and these oils have anti-bacterial properties.

Egg7 · 23/10/2025 21:01

Dove cream is really good.

theswordinthestone · 23/10/2025 21:09

Am holding a grudge against Mitchum as they really hurt my pits this summer! I was on holiday and stupidly didn’t put two and two together that it was the deodorant that was causing the pain (thought I’d shaved to close or burnt them in the sun) I know it sounds stupid but I just didn’t suspect the deodorant. Their customer ‘service’ team took an age to get back to me & said they’d send a voucher from America which hasn’t appeared. I would rather stink than give them my money now!

LadyDarcy80s · 23/10/2025 21:11

Have you tried Perspirex? My husband swears by it.

ParmaVioletTea · 22/10/2025 20:16

Well you should never wear anything synthetic.

It was a bad batch of Mitchum so maybe try it again?

I don’t have a problem but I do sweat a lot at the gym and I find the product Akt London is brilliant at stopping the sweat. It was made for and by stage performers who wear heavy costumes under bright lights. It’s very good and long lasting.

Another AKT fan here - it’s stopped the hormonal oniony perimenopausal smell and I’m very rarely wiffy now, even after a good session at the gym

Roco11 · 23/10/2025 22:03

I've used and continue to use Mitchem.
If its getting you down have you considered 'botox' injections. A friend has had these a couple if times and swears by them.

KirriIrry · 23/10/2025 22:15

A slightly odd suggestion, but it helped me is Epsom salts. Put into spray bottle - 1/3 salts, 2/3 water and shake till it’s dissolved (takes ages!). Then spray anywhere once a day, I put 2 sprays on my stomach. Doesn’t stop the sweat but does stop the smell. It stops working after a while so I just take a break from it and start again after a few weeks.

bestbefore · 23/10/2025 22:18

I use sure cream then a spray like dove or Mitchum on top!

Single50something · 23/10/2025 22:38

I used to use Mitchum as only one that lasted...I then gave Wild a go and never expected it to work, as im a sweaty Betty. Vut amazingly it works!! I think had to use for a few days to get my body used to it. I could now wear a tshirt for 2 or 2 days no issues if wanted to. Before/with other deodorants I sometimes had to change a top during the day.
Yes it costs more but worth it to not smell sweaty anymore.

OverlyFragrant · 23/10/2025 22:40

Mitcham changed their formula and it stopped working for me.
I know use Make Waves.

Have you tried washing your pits with lemon or bicarbonate of soda. Make a paste with bicarbonate of soda leave under your pits for 5-7 minutes then scrub with soap. I do this every once in a while and it helps a lot. If you use lemon quarter it and rub your pits with it and leave on for 5-7 minutes . Then scrub!

I was going to say this
also non scented soap

zeddybrek · 23/10/2025 22:45

I recommend Hibiscrub, a pink liquid. Leave on for a minute, it kills the bacteria. Made such a huge difference for me. That and using proper soap bar with a exfoliating sponge.

buffyreboot · 23/10/2025 22:53

I use the sure cream stuff you apply at night but Mitchum doesn’t work for me

Poshjock · 23/10/2025 22:59

I used to have to use Mitchum and the Sure 72 hr one but put on daily and I could still end up whiffy at the end of the day. Eventually I went cold turkey and stopped it althogether. It was two weeks of being rank and then it settled down. I switched to Fussy and Wild and got on fine with. I stuck with Wild for a good 3 years managing a full day without any smells and I sweat much less. I've fallen out with Wild now they've sold out so I when I use up the last of my blocks I am going to try AKT as I have heard good things.

I know it won't work for everyone, and it was a huge leap of faith, but coming off the chemicals was a game changer for my pits.

Homegrownberries · 23/10/2025 23:03

I switched to this Mitchum a couple of years ago because it doesn't leave white marks. It's just as effective as the powder fresh that I used to use and it wasn't part of the recall.

I've always had awful BO - now Mitchum isn't something I can use, I am back to bad BO 😫
Louise295 · 23/10/2025 23:08

I work in the industry. It was only the 100ml roll ons affected all of which were recalled. Either try the a/perspirint/ gel sticks or the 50ml roll on. Sorry you were put through that. Some photos I saw online looked pretty sore.

Yorkshirelass21 · 23/10/2025 23:12

I have tachycardia and I sweat like a pig. I have tried and tested pretty much everything. I buy Secret from iherb for winter/autumn, and Lancome Bocage for summer. I will still sweat but without horrible smell. Vichy 48h is also good but it takes ages to dry. I also wear mostly white (tops) in summer so that sweat doesn’t show up so badly.

Yes, I use "proper" soap bars and scrub with a flannel. It is literally just the way my genetic make up is I suppose, so I try to accept it as it is, but I do get frustrated with the way my clothes tend to eventually smell even after being washed. The smell kind of permanent ingrains itself into the armpits and it drives me mad lol 😆

Wash with an antibacterial wash under your pits, like dettol, it kills the bacteria that the normal soap can’t. Use driclor deodorant a couple of times a week

Shoemadlady · 23/10/2025 23:29

Original dove cream stick with the blue lid works a treat

Can you add a capful of Zoflora to the wash? It really kills all smelly bacteria.

Have you tried wiping your armpits with mouthwash if they start to smell during the day? Just bring a travel sized mouthwash and cotton wool pads to wipe your underarms. The antibacterial ingredients kill the smell and make your armpits minty.😀

VFM57 · 23/10/2025 23:35

Have you tried mens products. I haven't used products marketed at women for a very long time

Good luck

Fuckingfuckssake · 23/10/2025 23:36

I suffered terribly with B/O and now my teenager is heading the same way, I recently discovered that putting some mouthwash on your clothes before you wash them is really effective for getting rid of smells, previously I’ve used white vinegar but this is much better.

Myoldbones · 23/10/2025 23:38

I was the same got a bad Mitchum and it burnt me. Although it wasn’t working as well as it used to anyway. I am a sweaty mess, I sweat and it also shows through my clothes on the armpits, I was constantly washing and using deodorant.
I first tried Triple Dry to replace it and it was ok but takes forever to dry and still left my clothes with that stale sweaty smell.
Then I ordered so many deodorants to try and find another decent one and found the Sure 72 hour protection roll on to be brilliant. I am not going back to Mitchum now even though the issues are sorted. The Sure one I use is Aqua and I can still smell it on me at the end of a day after applying in the morning. I don’t know if you are supposed to use it less because it’s 72 hour protection but I use it daily after my shower and can’t believe how good it is for me. It’s cheap as chips too in comparison to Mitchum, always on offer at Boots! Have a try of it, if it doesn’t work it’s only a couple of quid spent, but going off my own experience it’s brilliant.

AgeingGoth · 24/10/2025 00:06

Perspi-guard is the best thing ever! They do a max strength roll on. It changed my life (dramatic or what? But unless you suffer you can’t understand my joy 🤣 ) I used Mitchum and/or driclor for years and they did a good job but I prefer to use non-animal tested brands now and perspi-guard is amazing - I order direct from them online, and it lasts me ages and is great value for money even though it seems expensive (it lasts twice as long as Mitchum)
