Welcome to the thread, the purpose of this is to give anyone who is having any trouble with their drinking, a safe place to come and post about it honestly and without judgement.

There are many of us that use the thread for support and encouragement: some in recovery, others just needing a place to share about their worries. It's been going on in one form of another for a while now and has helped many people.

Thank you to all of those who have kept it going thus far, and welcome to anyone who has decided the time has come to ask for help.

Everybody's welcome, no matter what stage your drinking is at.

Jump right in, the water's fine

havent had a drink in 5 days

gerbra · 02/06/2008 01:12

Hey coping, that's fantastic, how do you feel? Better in a lot of ways I bet?

copingvquietly · 02/06/2008 01:14

no gagging for a drink but cant because j has been poorly.oh that sounds bad doesnt it?

gerbra · 02/06/2008 01:17

It doesn't sound bad at all. Sounds like a perfectly normal response if you've been in the habit of drinking

If you need any kind of encouragement to stick with it...I've been drinking since 8, I'm not drunk, but bleary. It will probably be an hour or so before I get to bed. I'll have had munchies at some point. I'll wake up tomorrow hungover and depressed it's Monday. I've got, at worst, root canal work tomorrow

Not drinking: i'd have been fretting about work and dentist. I'd have popped some Kalms at about half 9. I'd have gone to bed at about 10 and read for a while. I'd have been asleep about 11 and feeling in some way ready for the new week.

Is that a good ad for not drinking or what!

You're doing brilliantly...

gerbra · 02/06/2008 01:46

anyhoo, this bleary, bit pissed person is heading off in the direction of bed (via the kitchen, maybe some toast or some other munch-satisfying snack).

Keep at it coping, you really are doing well, 5 days is a big deal, you should be proud...

Havalina, hope you post again, I tink I'm the best possible ad at the mo that this is an 'active' site !

night night

Hello all
Have been too busy/knackered to get to the pooter hence been away for ages. Feels like avoidance once it's been a fair while but always pleased to see what people have been up to.

Having said that feel a bit of a fraud now as I have no plans to give up right now as it feels like a huge task on top of what is going on right now. Feeling a bit unwelcome?? I know its an issue I have to deal with and reading this thread is inspiring.

I have gone from waking early in the morning to being unable to stay awake. Normally at the weekend we go walking (Gerbra-would love to do your holiday!) and it invigorates me but have been totally drained and now sleep in the day. We tried a walk a couple of weeks ago and I had to turn back. I then fell asleep in the car whcih I have NEVER done. Was a bit worried. As soon as I get a chance I'm back in bed but I know getting out in fresh air/mother nature is so good for me.

BlaDeBla · 02/06/2008 08:42

I think I found myself slipping towards denial. Oh it'll be ok if I drink tonight...

After 3 days without booze, I still feel as though I have a hangover with all the accompanying anxiety and crap feelings.

Like a dog, alcohol can be a useful servant, but a lousy master.

mankymummy · 02/06/2008 09:26

Good luck with the dentist Gerbra... let us know how you get on.

gerbra · 02/06/2008 17:33

Thanks MankyM
Well I survived, no root canal just a very very big filling! It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought, worst part was getting caught in a downpour on my bike on the way there!

Glowwormish, you don't mean unwelcome on the thread do you?? What nonsense ! I've been wondering how you've been doing, you seemed so exhausted last time you posted, and you still sound exhausted by the sounds of it? If I were you I'd just go with what your body wants at the moment and sleep any moment you can get (although finding those moments sounds tricky!). Are you and DP managing to find any time to relax or are things as fraught as ever?

Having felt in control and top of things for the last few weeks due to being sober in the week, I stopped off on the way home today and bought wine...and it's inevitable that I'll drink it. I know it's my decision, but I also know that's what I'll decide to do

Hope everyone's well today, will pop back later...

Glad it was ok Gerbra.

I'm going for the cutting down/trying to start drinking as late as possible route as I think thats all i can cope with at the moment.

Had quite a bit to drink yesterday but we were out with a group of friends seeing our friend perform his first live comedy act so it was a special occasion.

Have perfectly chilled bottle of wine in the fridge and not touched it yet .

mankymummy · 02/06/2008 20:15
