do you have a flash and vibrate setting(!) on your phone OJ? I am carer to my teenage DD who is bedbound with ME at the moment and I have my phone set on silent beside the bed so she can call me if she needs me. It buzzes and flashes if it rings and wakes me up straight away but no one else is disturbed.

I have an iphone too, check the switch that lilrabbit pointed out. I'm always accidently switching it onto silent then missing 20 calls. On "settings" you can also do ring and vibrate, or just vibrate.

As to the MIL, well words fail me. How would she know what the carers do all day? I would not want her looking after me!! She would stop any pain meds I need to take!! Will the phone vibrate? If it will you can always have in next to you in bed then if it rings it will vibrate. Or you could put it on a empty sweet tin or something that will make a noise when it vibrates.

MIL fails me!! I can't get my head round it. Dh says he's never heard anything like it in all the terminal care he has done. Have just made him promise that if I am ever that sick my abandoning mother will get nowhere near me!
