Do what you like

It's anarchy

I was going to go part time anyway (hurrah) so that's not a problem

But I will have to fight my way 4 miles across a town with a shockingly bad traffic problem to get her to school, then back again, and rinse and repeat in the afternoon. There are no buses , at least not yet, there are a couple of new routes being planned but I don't think they will go where we need them to.

Any ideas on what the best way is to transport a tall 4yo on a push bike? I really don't want to have to drive her there. The roads are not small cyclist friendly. She can't steer her trike yet so we have not tried her on a bike anyway. I think she is too tall and heavy for those seats that go on the back of the bike.

FrannyandZooey · 14/05/2008 15:10

tagalong
she will adore it, but sorry about all the other crap

dp and ds are trying to sort out our compost
it has gone badly wrong and they are shovelling it all out and doing things involving ripped up cardboard to it
it stinks to high heaven
the closest I can get to describing it is Glastonbury toilets

Oooh I like that - I had seen a bar which you can use to attach a normal kid's bike to an adult bike but she would have been too low down for my liking - that's much higher up so I would feel much happier

FrannyandZooey · 14/05/2008 15:20

ds is in absolute heaven on his
can give recommendation for where to buy if you like (that one just had a good picture)

OP posts:
TigerFeet · 14/05/2008 15:21

I have been composting for almost a year now

I haven't dared look at the results yet

I rather suspec there isn't enough cardboard in ours either

OsmosisBanana · 14/05/2008 15:22

Trek do a good one.

TigerFeet · 14/05/2008 15:25

oh yes please

Now I need to work out how long it will take me to cycle to school with dd, cycle home and collect the car to get to work

Urm, about an hour probably I am dreadfully unfit

It's about an 8 mile round trip. All flat apart from one bridge. AN hour is too long isn't it?

FrannyandZooey · 14/05/2008 15:28

it takes me about an hour to cycle 8 miles, but I am crap

dp says try 'sjscycles' on eBay. They've got a shop.

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 14/05/2008 15:29

looking on the bright side it will be very good exercise
or will you just want to kick me if I think of any more bright sides?

OP posts:
TigerFeet · 14/05/2008 15:35

It will indeed

I'm just hoping that the temptation to jump in the car will not be too much

Will I get too sweaty to come straight to work afterwards? I could just pedal about all tall and sedate I suppose, sailing about as if I were in an Edwardian period drama

So much to think about it is all far too much for my tiny mind

MrsCarrot · 14/05/2008 15:37

stuffit, I can't remember what you said. I think I said something fairly irrelevant like brides can get petulant and likened it to meeting the parents and Ice Magic, though there was some connecting factor bwteen those things.

Someone came unexpectedly and bumped today's guests up to three but they left a delicious chocolate cake and I have had two slices.

stuffitllama · 14/05/2008 15:38

argh tigerfeet on school

what a crappy system

MrsCarrot · 14/05/2008 15:39

sorry to hear that, Tigerfeet, that must be stressful. Think how fit you will be though, if you do cycle.

stuffitllama · 14/05/2008 15:40

raspberries and a juicy pear
2 down eight to go

TooTicky · 14/05/2008 15:54

Tigerfeet, if this is the school she has been allocated, and it is 4 miles away, are the local authority not obliged to provide transport/pay for taXI?

TigerFeet · 14/05/2008 15:57

Do you think that they would Toot? There is a school much closer that has places, but for many and varied reasons I don't want her to go there

FrannyandZooey · 14/05/2008 16:32

oh dear
all compost away now but garden REEKS
neighbours could definitely not sit outside without gagging
oh god how long will it last? dp has conveniently gone out after unleashing this stink fest on our street

and random child came round again and said "can I come in your garden I have to be home at five fifteen?"

I don't even know where he lives! I said 'no' and he said "but you said tomorrow, didn't you?"

I ruddy did not!

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 14/05/2008 16:33

just realised I should have LET random child go in stinky compost garden
he would never ask to come round again
ds is indoors, but wearing a surgical mask to avoid the smell

OP posts:
TooTicky · 14/05/2008 17:20

oH SORRY tIGERFEET, IN THAT CASE PROBABLY NOT [SAD]
Oh, sorry for shouting!

MrsCarrot · 14/05/2008 17:58

You have to give him credit for trying, Franny!

We used to get this a lot when we camped for extended periods in the summer. There would be some children who would be in our camp every day, always there at meal times etc. Sometimes they would get some. Other times we would say you have to go back to your camp now, where is your camp anyway? They would gesture somewhere up the field.

One time, after a week of this, a car slowed as it passed and we all looked on in amazement as these parents stopped, let their child out of the car by our camp and then drove off without even looking at us. I mean, that takes the piss doesn't it?

FrannyandZooey · 14/05/2008 18:01

should I do something about it? I do not want him dropping round every day after school
I do not want him dropping round ANY day after school - ds and I are usually chilling out
miserable cow aren't I?

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 14/05/2008 18:03

I mean I don't reckon his mum would know where he was, if I let him in, either
she can't, can she? I mean would she let him call round knowing that I haven't a clue who he is? However the "I have to be back at ...." bit does imply some parental approval doesn't it?

Ds going into someone's house that I don't know is one of my absolute NOs
am I odd?

OP posts:
UnderRated · 14/05/2008 18:04

lol @ the need for a surgical mask. Sounds yucky.

I had lentil chili with a chunk of plastic in it so I had to throw it away before I threw up.

DS is furious with me.

FrannyandZooey · 14/05/2008 18:08

oh no UR where did the plastic come from? why is ds cross?
