For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

FrannyandZooey · 13/05/2008 18:57

it could work until you actually showed interest in him, I expect

how are your ankles and your pelvis fran
hoping you will be able to say tiptop soon

cyteen · 14/05/2008 09:40

Am ploughing my way through a big bowl of fruit salad: melon, pineapple, plums, strawberries, grapes. Also went to the pub last night for my book club and managed to eat another load of pineapple and strawberries that someone had thoughtfully provided as nibbles.

The cavalcade of bumfluff'd teenage drivers pumping shite r&b out of their bass bin-loaded Fiestas has started early this morning (There is a 6th form college across the road from us, so every lunchtime the area fills up with teenagers hanging around outside the shop contriving to look worldly and throwing their bloody chocolate wrappers everywhere.)

berolina · 14/05/2008 11:13

morning all

apple - OJ - am chomping my way through a carrot.

I have a Positive Attitude today - that I am on my way to getting all these huge piles of stuff done (short term)/being what, who and where I want to be (mid/long term) - so I don't feel so crap and inadequate. Have spent part of the morning when ds2 was asleep (ds1 is at kindergarten, have to pick him up soon) making a birthday present for a friend, and very lovely it has turned out too. I feel Good At Something, At Least

UnderRated · 14/05/2008 14:24

Well done, Bero.

We ate the most amazing pineapple yesterday.

No F&V today unless marmalade counts. I seem to be in the midst of a veritable carb-fest again. I need to cut back as it is Not Good For Me.

aggh., This course I am on is really messing with my mind. Am considering giving up dairy. And (gulp) tea.

3andnomore · 14/05/2008 16:57

Hi All,
just checking in....
I haven't been on the PC much over the recent weeks....well...the last couple of weeks I don't think I have been on the PC at all...been reading bokks over books...always loved books but I go through phases where I just read and read!
Dh is still on Jobhunt, and it's time he goes to work, if you ask me...he is doing my head in and totally confusing my "routine"....
I joined Slimming World today as I put on 2st and 1/2 Ibs since last summer and it just isn't good enough....must get focussed again, I really do....I hate myself the way I am right now
Other than that no news here really...Kids are all o.k.
Hope everyone is alright here!

TooTicky · 14/05/2008 17:22

Good good fmf, do it! You will never look back

Hello 3 Long time no see!

TooTicky · 14/05/2008 17:24

Btw fmf, how are your van, boat and menstrual cycle? Not necessarily in that order

UnderRated · 14/05/2008 18:16

FMF, why the tea and dairy?

If I could find a replacement for cheese, I'd give up dairy too.

Fullmoonfiend · 14/05/2008 19:17

dairy because, in a nutshell - you understand I am breaking down a day's worth of training into one paragraph - we can get all the calcium we need from other food sources, because no-one needs milk after weaning and because dairy is linked to breast and other cancers!

Tea - because caffeine stimulates the adrenal system so if you are stressed (which I am at the minute) you are pumping even more of the adrenal responses into your system.
Caffeine also inhibits iron absorption (so at the very least one should avoid drinking tea of cofee after a meal...) and relaeses glucose into your blood, thius affecting hormones and thus your mood.
Tea, being a diuretci. also makes you wee out any potassium you may have been lucky enough to absorb into your system Potassium being one of the four main minerals your body needs to function well.

Thank god I'm not addicted to coffee - that's even worse..

God I hate this course I'm on!
God I love this course I'm on...!

UnderRated · 14/05/2008 19:27

Dairy makes sense. Tea too. But that is one of my few vices so I can't give it up!

Fullmoonfiend · 14/05/2008 20:11

tea and cake are two of my favourite words in the world...

Fullmoonfiend · 14/05/2008 20:25

OMG! The boat has made it to Leeds! Will be at our new moorings by tomorrow! [happy dance]

zippitippitoes · 14/05/2008 20:33

cyteen · 14/05/2008 20:58

I'm making veggie chilli (kidney beans, peppers) and brown rice for tea, with lots of cucumber and spring onion on the top.

Apprentice in 10 minutes, yay/cringe.
