Anyone else got this virus, and what is it?

DH been poorly off and on for about 2 weeks. Temperatures, body aches, chesty coughing fits but not bringing stuff up, stuffy nose, very tired. He’ll perk up for a day or so and then dip again. GP says chest clear. Wondering if it’s flu. He did have flu jab in October though. Any ideas?

Thank you. I'm on day 7 now of feeling absolutely floored by this. Dizzy and weak when I stand up for more then a few moments. Not eaten much in the last week and stomach is dodgy still. Cough is so bad that I'm almost sick and have wet myself with it. Pins and needles in hands and feet, shaky legs and hands, hazy vision and ringing in ears. Still have a temperature.
Daughter has been feeling ill on and off since Friday. She was sent home from school Friday and hasn't been in this week as she has a cough, lack of appetite, looks very I'll in her eyes. Not to mention I can barely make it up and down the stairs without my legs going wobbly, without the walk to the school and back.
And yes, partner has had a go at me daily for being ill and for daughter not getting to school. I am a selfish mother apparently and don't care about her education according to him and should just pull myself together and get better.

Heartless bastard, basically. Really feel for you. Ignore him. If he does leave you it sounds like you'll be much better off anyway 💐

My DH is on day three of this. I've never known him so poorly. Is there any medication you took that you think helped?

Thank you so much. Yeah he's proved time and time again that he couldn't care less about me. He used to be so lovely when I first met him as well. He's a completely different person now

HalfasleepChrisintheMorning · 30/01/2025 11:49

I’m sorry. Can you start making plans?

strugglingwithlife · 30/01/2025 18:49

Thank you. When I'm feeling better hopefully. So low at the moment as well

Ah I have this right now. Was planning on going back to work today but the alarm went and I was still so unwell that it's another day off. Guess it's only been 5 days but I expected to be well enough by now. No energy so even getting to work is challenging and I'm coughing so much I'm being sick and have strained muscles. Also regularly peeing myself with the coughing. Head is full of cotton wool too. Absolutely sucks.

Me too what the hell. I am sneezing and coughing so strongly I keep peeing myself. I hope this virus doesn't give you bladder incontinence. I have been in bed for 2 and a half days with non stop fever. Literally in bed under blankets. Lemsip/ paracetamol would give me slight relief for an hour (if that) then I would go back to shivers, body aches, painful/ sensitive skin, horrendous headache, congestion, sneezing, earache, not great stomach, cough... awful. The fever/ shivers only started easing off this evening and i know it's not gone for good. I can safely say that I have never experienced anything like it in my life. Included the 3 times I caught Covid. This does not feel like Covid to me

RaininSummer · 31/01/2025 23:39

Day 10 now. Went back to work on Thursday as although I didn't feel well still, I was a bit better. I really didn't want to have to try to get a fit note as it's so hard to contact a doctor. I am still coughing and feel quite congested. Also incredibly tired and unmotivated.

Choccymumma · 01/02/2025 11:58

Day 16 for me, have posted on here a couple of time. Had a couple of ok days, felt like it was improving and then woke up with the headache again this morning and have felt awful since. Nausea that's horrible and hot and shaky. Holding on to the very tiny hope that other people I know who have had it felt better from about 3 weeks.

HalfasleepChrisintheMorning · 02/02/2025 08:14

Had it for a fortnight too and still coughing and exhausted.
When will it end?

Papyrophile · 02/02/2025 17:51

It's horrid. We've all suffered with it for a week but come the end of the day, we're ready for bed/sofa and blankets. There's a huge amount of it about, and some people have been most unwell for a full fortnight.

Tabitha500 · 02/02/2025 20:13

I’ve had this for just over 3 weeks now and although I think I’m on the mend I get days on and off when I still feel rough! I’m not coughing any more fortunately but this has been worse than covid! I did test for covid and it was negative!

Hope you all get well soon.

Resoloot · 03/02/2025 07:51

I have had a raging temperature and body aches that has put me under my duvet, praying for god to have mercy on my soul, for a week.

although I do not have any respiratory issues like cough.

anyone else have this? My son had similar with cough and snotty nose and a temperature but he did not have anywhere near the fever and body rattling chills that I have had.

strugglingwithlife · 03/02/2025 09:17

Just about getting over it, apart from the cough. The cough is horrendous and I'm having to wear sanitary towels as the cough is so bad I wet myself ☹️

BestIsWest · 03/02/2025 10:18

Feeling awful again today, nauseous, aching and hot. Unfortunately I seem to have passed it on to DM - I’ve avoided spending too much time with her but have to be around as she has Alzheimer’s.

RaininSummer · 03/02/2025 19:35

Work was so hard today. Struggled to stay awake despite being busy and had a big coughing fit at the bus stop.

Resoloot · 04/02/2025 19:44

I am on day six of having the ‘rigors’ and no other symptoms. It’s driving me insane.

Choccymumma · 19/02/2025 04:42

How's everyone doing? I felt a lot better by week 3 but here I am 2 weeks later feeling off again. Headache is back and I've got no energy.

HalfasleepChrisintheMorning · 19/02/2025 06:37

I’m really snotty now having had no snot when I was actually poorly. Still have a productive cough. Otherwise fine and back at work.

MissRachelismycoparent · 19/02/2025 07:04

We had an awful virus go around last week. High temp, shivers, awful aches, dizziness and I was violently sick for a few hours. Awful virus.

CluelessBananas · 19/02/2025 07:25

I've got this at the moment and it's a slog! My GP was willing to see me on Monday as my lungs were making crackling noises every time I breathed, they said I had had the flu which had developed into bronchitis.

The only upside for me is the complete loss of appetite. Trying to eat or cook food whilst feeling this bad would be horrendous.

Hope everyone feels better soon!

pelargoniums · 19/02/2025 07:43

We’ve got this now. DP sailed through, DD’s only symptom is lymph nodes like cherry tomatoes in her neck. DS is on day five of 39-degree fevers but seems cheerier than me:

Started with throwing up, diarrhoea, a 40-degree temp. Has morphed into full body aches with debilitating lower back and hip pain, a painful non-stop cough – sometimes productive, sometimes just relentless – sore throat, waves and waves of nausea. I’ve thrown up on the spot in the kitchen bin, the sink, once in my shopping bag in the street on the way to the corner shop thinking I was fine but I wasn’t. But the muscle aches are the worst: seem to come and go, one minute I’m fine, the next I can’t move.

I’m so fatigued. DP has been dealing with the DC all night so I can recuperate but I’m not recuperating! Had nine hours straight last night, like a log; still woke like I’d been run over.

CherryogDog · 19/02/2025 07:46

I've been unwell since the middle of December, full on flu Christmas week.
Then a cycle of feeling like I'm getting better for a few days and then get floored again. My symptoms are an awful cough for two days, ratchet strap headache, diarrhoea, followed by a day of sneezing, then a day of not having a big enough tissue to contain what my nose is producing.
I saw my GP at week 6, my chest is clear, so no antibiotics.
The fatigue is overwhelming.
I don't think it's whooping cough, I've had that twice before, and my symptoms aren't as severe.

Choccymumma · 21/02/2025 12:11

Sounds similar to me, had flu for 3 weeks in January, 1 week feeling OK and like I was getting better and this week it's been awful again. The headache and nausea is the worst thing. Thinking about getting signed off to get totally better but feel pathetic if I do that 😆
