DH been poorly off and on for about 2 weeks. Temperatures, body aches, chesty coughing fits but not bringing stuff up, stuffy nose, very tired. He’ll perk up for a day or so and then dip again. GP says chest clear. Wondering if it’s flu. He did have flu jab in October though. Any ideas?

Sounds like what DH has - it’s been 8 days now. I’ve had a much lesser version.
We both had the flu jab but were told it was the second tier jab and covered less strains as they had run out of the top tier one.

I think this is me.
Started 8 days ago. Fatigue, hot and aches and pains initially. For the last 5 days a headache that feels like sinuses and terrible nausea. Felt well yesterday and daftly thought I was on the mend hut today, oh man I feel rough again.
Work part time in a school and had time off this week but can't see me managing this week like this. Barely get off the sofa.
No real cold symptoms, a bit sniffly and congestion.
Hugs to everyone, it's grim.

Sounds exactly like me. I'm off work with it today.

Boardingschoolmumoftwo · 27/01/2025 10:14

Both my children have had this, youngest in 11 months and it’s been hellish. My four year old has been sleeping for 14 hours a day which is unheard of as he’s usually bouncing off the walls! Hope everyone is on the mend soon!

RaininSummer · 27/01/2025 10:36

Ah I have this right now. Was planning on going back to work today but the alarm went and I was still so unwell that it's another day off. Guess it's only been 5 days but I expected to be well enough by now. No energy so even getting to work is challenging and I'm coughing so much I'm being sick and have strained muscles. Also regularly peeing myself with the coughing. Head is full of cotton wool too. Absolutely sucks.

Redglitter · 27/01/2025 10:38

I'm now 2 weeks in and really feel no better. My cough is horrendous. I've no sense of taste or smell no appetite and I feel so ill if I'm out of bed any length of time. Cant believe I still feel so ill

This is the same for me with the coughing. It's horrendous. Also have stomach cramps and upset stomach now as well. I've never known anything like it ☹️

Yes, the added stomach dodginess is the icing on the cake!

Horrible isn't it 😞

TuesdaysAreBest · 27/01/2025 17:24

There’s something nasty called RSV going around. Flu jab doesn’t prevent it. I had to look it up, never heard of it before.

baroqueandblue · 27/01/2025 19:06

Practice nurse prescribed me clarithromycin earlier, phone appointment. If my breathing doesn't improve with it I have to report back and go for a chest x-ray.

sparklyhippo · 27/01/2025 21:23

Pleased (?!) to have found this thread. I am in my third week and still not feeling back to normal.
Started off with severe muscle aches, conjunctivitis and insomnia, took a day off work as I felt dreadful. Went back the next day as I felt slightly better but that was a mistake as day after I was floored and had to take another day off. By this point I’d developed a horrid cough, sore throat and stuffy nose. Spent the following three days doing as little as possible. Week 2 I started to feel gradually better but still with sore throat and a cough that made me feel like I was going to be sick and sometimes struggling to catch my breath. Now on week 3 and the cough has diminished a little but it’s still not gone fully and my throat is still so sore - I’ve never experienced such a painful throat. Energy levels are very low. Going to try and get a dr appt if I’m still like this at the end of the week.

Has anyone had nausea and diarrhoea with this. I've had both along with chills etc I've had it for over a week now and getting a bit worried!

I had something like this over Christmas. Chills and shivers started the weekend before Christmas, nausea on the Monday. Aching joints and could hardly stay awake. Only a couple of episodes of diarrhoea and no coughing or cold symptoms. I was very poorly for around two weeks and then took another week to get back to normal. I suspect it was a mild dose of flu, mild because I had my flu jab as I do every year.

Pilgrimgirl · 27/01/2025 22:41

@Thisismyalterego this sounds exactly the same as me. Today is the first day without nausea and I'm not as tired. I was going to bed in the afternoon for a sleep, which is most unlike me. I've, thankfully, also only had a few episodes of diarrhoea. It's a really strange "bug". I, too, had my flu jab last November. Hope you are fully recovered now.

RaininSummer · 28/01/2025 14:09

I ventured to the shops briefly as needed food. First time leaving the house in 5 days. Still feeling a bit weak and wobbly and also managed a coughing fit. Really need to get back to work before I have to try to scare up a doctor's appointment for a fit note.

IsawwhatIsaw · 28/01/2025 19:24

@baroqueandblue
How are you now? I have similar sounding symptoms to you, just had course of steroids. Week 7 for me..

Thisismyalterego · 28/01/2025 20:30

@Pilgrimgirl Thank you, I am much better now. Still get a little tired at times, but mostly fine. The first week back at work was a struggle to be honest, I work in a school, so it's pretty full on. I am still amazed that nobody else caught it from me - the whole family came on Christmas Day (they had to do their own dinner, I just wasn't up to it) and of course DH was here throughout, but thankfully they all avoided this bug. Several other people at work had it and some of DILs reports had it, in fact one ended up in hospital with it.
Hopefully you are now on the mend and will soon be back to normal.

baroqueandblue · 28/01/2025 21:18

@IsawwhatIsaw have the steroids helped? I've just taken my second clarithromycin tablet so too early to tell for me. Breathing feels a bit better but that could just be placebo at this point. How are you feeling today? I estimate I've had 3 viruses back to back since November. The first was probably norovirus (awful intestinal pain for weeks on end), then came down with flu early December and was hardly over that before (probably) Covid struck at new year. I lost taste and smell for over a week, which is why I think it was Covid. Now I think my body feels so battered it's struggling to get well, and it's probably all left me with a chest infection.

Had a home visit from a NHS nurse today and she was wearing a mask. She said she has been told to wear one because of this new virus. I'm guessing that it's the HMPV that's been in the new of late???

IsawwhatIsaw · 28/01/2025 21:38

@baroqueandblue
No I don’t think they have helped really.
I Had 5 days worth, but I'm still wheezing and lots of catarrh/ phlegm.

I had blood tests, looked normal. I have asthma so vulnerable I guess.
Hopefully the clarithromycin will sort you out. Sounds like you’re pretty run down. It’s tiring being unwell for so long

What go you mean- by your partner? That’s horrible.
Hope you are ok.

Get well soon all.
Still feel rubbish here, I ache from coughing and sleeping propped up on 6 pillows.

Choccymumma · 29/01/2025 07:39

Day 14 for me and I went to work yesterday as I felt a bit better. Man I feel rough again today. Headache is something else and I've come out with the cold side of things now after having the fluey side. This is horrible and feels never ending 🙄

ShadowCalls · 29/01/2025 08:10

No mention of whooping cough, perhaps it's just our town but loads of adults have got it.
Google Adult Whooping cough to find out the three stages.

I'm just coming to the end of 3 months and definitely getting better at last.

Christmas had to be cancelled. Gp said my experience was fairly typical, some people get a milder version that doesn't last so long if they're lucky.

Started like beginning of a cold, bit of a tickly cough, watery eyes, runny nose but felt OK. Then over a few weeks cough got worse, it felt like there was loads of stuff in my lungs but nothing ever came up.

Chest tight so couldn't take a deep breath and felt like I'd run out of air and die but couldn't stop coughing and ended up gagging and vomiting. It was exhausting and painful, impossible to speak or eat and I've lost lots of weight, was thin to start with.

Temperature was always normal but GP put me on Amoxycillin for five days to help reduce the chance of secondary chest infection.

Now I just need to avoid flu and the other bugs.

BestIsWest · 29/01/2025 10:24

This is day 6 for me and day 11 for DH. I feel much worse today, achey and my head feels like I have a heavy cold although my throat isn’t as sore.

Thank you. I'm on day 7 now of feeling absolutely floored by this. Dizzy and weak when I stand up for more then a few moments. Not eaten much in the last week and stomach is dodgy still. Cough is so bad that I'm almost sick and have wet myself with it. Pins and needles in hands and feet, shaky legs and hands, hazy vision and ringing in ears. Still have a temperature.
Daughter has been feeling ill on and off since Friday. She was sent home from school Friday and hasn't been in this week as she has a cough, lack of appetite, looks very I'll in her eyes. Not to mention I can barely make it up and down the stairs without my legs going wobbly, without the walk to the school and back.
And yes, partner has had a go at me daily for being ill and for daughter not getting to school. I am a selfish mother apparently and don't care about her education according to him and should just pull myself together and get better.
