Mine was 4months ago, before that I had an abnormal smear, a colposcopy and a LEEP incision (removal of cells) so will need another one soon.
Definitely go get one if you havent had one lately.

cheesesarnie · 23/04/2008 11:57

im due for one now.but keep having periods every other week more or less.

AitchTwoOhelicopterfraek · 23/04/2008 11:57

kanga, you know that for blind MNers your message reads blah blah blah underscore underscore underscore underscore blah blah underscore underscore etc? i think you were away at the time but there was a bit of discussion about all the ***___^^^@@@@@ kinda stuff and the consensus seemed to be to stop doiing it.

waycat · 23/04/2008 12:01

I actually had my 3-yearly smear test just last week and was very pleased at how painless it was.

The last time I went it was to have three successive smears taken as they all came back inadequate.

Now they use a brush type instrument to sweep the cervix rather than the scraper (for want of a better word - I apologise to anyone who is squeamish!), and it was totally painless and very quick. The worst part was when the speculum opened.

I agree - such a simple procedure, but a real life saver.

I used to work with a woman who would under no circumstances get a smear test done and I kept telling her she was playing with fire, but to no avail.

ShowOfHands · 23/04/2008 12:03

My last one was September 2005 and assume that they'll ask me for a repeat in September of this year.

Can I just book one now as am thinking of ttc and don't want to without a clear smear test result first?

RTKangaMummy · 23/04/2008 12:12

AITCH

My goodness sorry I never knew that

I am really sorry

oh don't worry on my account, i'm not blind, but i think it must be a bit irritating if you're relying on a voice thing reading out words all the time and then you get all these extraneous dots and blibbles.

cyteen · 23/04/2008 12:20

I had one late last year, just before I got pg in fact. It was clear. They make me go every year because I had two colposcopies following an abnormal result, the latter of which was unnecessary. But I don't really mind, I'd rather they were keeping an eye on these things and the procedure isn't that bad. Worst part is definitely the speculum!

frumpygrumpyhasnofaceon · 23/04/2008 12:22

I shamefully wait until the letter plops through door saying I should go. I have no idea when my last one was

YouCantTeuchThis · 23/04/2008 12:24

shit!! I know, I know, I know...

I tried to get mine at 6-week check (DS is 2!) but the practice nurse just winced and told me to come back later but I moved to a different area. The local GP here actually sighs when women say they are in for a smear, so I have been putting it off...

RTKangaMummy · 23/04/2008 12:29

go to a family planning centre that is what I did

the woman who was on TV this morning had Just not got round to it and put it to the back of her mind and then she was getting married and went for one and eneded up with cancer and had to have a hysterectomy

Please go and get one asap

You are all alot (alot) younger than me but I queried when my next one is as it said on the last letter of results Nov 2011 that was a 5 year gap. The nurse said "thats right, its every 5 years once you are over 50"!

kittywise · 23/04/2008 22:50

I had one this year, all was fine

immaculateconception · 23/04/2008 23:02

Last year

readytoswiggin · 23/04/2008 23:11

Last year, but I also wait until the letter plops through the letter box and make the appt with gritted teeth. Worst part of the last one was the 2 children tied in the pushchair loudly protesting from the other side of the curtain!

LilRedWG · 24/04/2008 11:19

Please do all go and have regular smears ladies.

My cousin didn't - the result was she didn't find out until it was too late that she had cancer of the cervix, which later spread throughout her body, ending in her bones and brain. Several surgeries and chemo treament later, she died an early, painful, death, leaving behind five children, the youngest only seven years old. Please do not put your smear off!

castille · 24/04/2008 11:23

Oh Lilred, that's heartbreaking

I had mine about 18 months ago, so due another at the end of the year

Disenchanted · 24/04/2008 11:25

Ive never had one

Never been called in for one.

I'm 24 this year and on my 3rd pregnancy.

LilRedWG · 24/04/2008 11:25

What is even more heartbreaking is that her DH died a year later - also of cancer - and one of her grandchildren died shortly after of cot death Such a tragic, tragic family - it is so unfair for some people.

PinkTulips · 24/04/2008 11:31

had one in oct and was told 'all clear but it's advised you get tested again in a year' bit worried about that tbh

RTKangaMummy · 24/04/2008 18:03
