How often do you vomit?

Emetephobe here and haven’t vomited in over a decade. How often do you vomit as in all honestly I’m worried it’s gonna happen soon as it’s been so long but I’m also curious to see how it varies per person and if people really do just vomit randomly or if there’s always a cause.
Apologies for the slightly weird thread x

I vomited a number of times in one night last month...however, it was alcohol related when on holiday 😳. Haven't overindulged to that extent since I was a teenager 🙄

Before that, I think it must have been 10-15 years. I remember catching a bug off ds1 when he was very young and he's 16 now. Not since then.

Littletreefrog · 04/08/2024 22:19

When I had food poisoning 4 years ago, I know this because it was on my Facebook memories today.

DelilahBucket · 04/08/2024 22:20

No one vomits randomly, of course there is a reason. Usual suspects, alcohol, food poisoning or a bug. Mine was an allergy to calcium propionate which came to light in November 2022.

CuttySarcasm · 04/08/2024 22:21

Food poisoning/bug/who knows what last year. It was actually a relief to vomit as I felt so bad.

KickHimInTheCrotch · 04/08/2024 22:22

Virtually never. Probably only vomited about 5 times in my life and I'm 46. Some of those will have been alcohol related and had food poisoning once or twice. Any bug i get is more likely to go straight through me rather than back up iyswim.

Plutofablestwo · 04/08/2024 22:22

Quite regularly (I take anti-emetics twice a day) but this is due to an operation going wrong and complications following that.
Dc1 has long standing gastric issues and so no one bats an eyelid if either of us vomit.
If dc1 or 2 vomit it would be headline news. I think they both had a bug a couple of years ago, prior to that I can't remember.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 04/08/2024 22:23

Not since my children were really little (they are late teens). Why would it happen soon just because it hasn't happened for ages? That's not how illness works!

Anxietytime6 · 04/08/2024 22:23

I get it OP, (ex)emetophobe here too. Didn't vomit for about 15 years until I had kids. They don't have bugs often but I have caught a couple.

I will say though it has done wonders for my phobia, I don't freak out as much as I used to.

user3193 · 04/08/2024 22:23

I've got a 3 year old in nursery! So quite often. 😩😂

Seeline · 04/08/2024 22:24

Rarely do unless pregnant - then it was multiple times a day 24/7

Otherwise stomach bugs, or covid. Maybe a couple of times a decade?

SkaneTos · 04/08/2024 22:24

In the last 20 years I have vomited once.

EmbarrassingMother · 04/08/2024 22:24

I vomited the first time in 6 years last Thursday.

Moltenpink · 04/08/2024 22:26

Quite a few times, but I think I could have not vomited if I really didn’t want to. It was a case of knowing it would make me feel better, so letting it happen.

startstopengine · 04/08/2024 22:28

49 here and I'd say 5 times in my life.

Talipesmum · 04/08/2024 22:28

Only with seasickness since I stopped being in my early 20s and vomiting after / during nights out due to alcohol. I don’t think I’ve ever vomited from a tummy bug. Maybe a little in early pregnancy. In the last 15 years only from seasickness.

Min133 · 04/08/2024 22:29

Maybe like 3 times a year. I don't drink alcohol so it's usually when I have a migraine or have caught a bug

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 04/08/2024 22:30

About 6 years ago when l mixed my cocktails - had creamy followed by fruity🤢

PiggieWig · 04/08/2024 22:31

Hardly ever. And I have drunk far more than is good for me in recent years (cut back now).
We’re just not a pukey family.
Last time was NYD a few years ago, a one off random puke bit I’d been swimming somewhere mucky that day, so probably swallowed some water. I made it through three pregnancies without puking. Some big nights out.
My kids never puke either. Both late teens early 20s but can count on one hand the times either has been sick.

I actually get properly upset if it happens to me because it’s so rare.

Oh dear🤣🤭

CactusUmbrella · 04/08/2024 22:33

OP I'm emetophobic and I understand where you're coming from. My brain also thinks everyone has a quota where you throw up a certain amount every however many years. I feel like I'm "overdue". But that isn't how it works and it isn't worth living in fear that it could happen anytime. I do feel for you though as I know exactly what that fear is like.

Superstar22 · 04/08/2024 22:38

Almost hardly ever. Probably once in 20 years

Sendhelp101 · 04/08/2024 22:40

The only time I'm sick is when I drink too much and I haven't gotten that bad in a very long time. In when I feel very nauseous or have food poisoning I can't be sick spontaneously!

Phopet · 04/08/2024 22:42

fellow emetophobe! I didn’t vomit once for about 10- 15 years,I trained myself not to be sick. Then I got pregnant x3 with awful morning sickness and started to vomit a lot, followed by 3 small kids in nursery/school and we had a sickness bug every other week which I always caught. I feel like now I seem to vomit at the drop of a hat, if I eat too much, drink too much, have an illness- probably once every couple of months. It’s like my body’s gone in to vomit overdrive! The exposure has helped with the phobia though haha

Bohomovies · 04/08/2024 22:42

I vomited last year after drinking too much. Before that, it was about eight years ago with food poisoning.

GG1986 · 04/08/2024 22:43

I'm rarely sick/vomiting, but I did have some bug or ate something dodgy about 16 months ago, I lost my appetite then puked twice, then a few hours later puked once more, then it stopped. Before that time I hadn't been sick for years, even when pregnant I wasn't sick.
