One for my liver has come back high and needs repeating. Please calm me down..I feel like I could pass out.

All the other results are in normal range. Its just this one.

It's not the drama. I hate this. I hate this feeling

It will pass. Try some deep breathing and clear your head. You're catastrophising.

Terrifiedshakes · 26/06/2024 19:32

I'm sorry

It's all in normal range

ArabellaScott · 26/06/2024 19:34

On a scale of one to ten, how anxious are you feeling, OP?

anotherpain · 26/06/2024 19:35

Terrifiedshakes · 26/06/2024 19:32

I'm sorry

Those results wouldn't worry me unnecessarily and honestly any ailment I blow up to something much worse .

DreamTheMoors · 26/06/2024 19:35

If you’re this freaked out, call your doctor.

I had some results come back from liver inflammation when ds was 6 weeks old when I was a feeling very unwell.

They said viral hepatitis but I lived abroad so don't know if they'd describe it the same in the U.K.?

Cleared up in a few weeks.

DS is nearly 20!!!!

Wait until you get any diagnosis and treatment plan before panicking about the worst Flowers

AUDHDVET · 26/06/2024 19:36

Hi OP, I’m a vet and honestly a value raised to that extent we’d recommend a repeat in 3 months but I wouldn’t lose any sleep over it until the 2nd result was significantly raised (compared to the first). Reference ranges are based on averages, your normal could be higher than average, it doesn’t mean you’re unwell in any way.

honestly your anxiety will be doing you more damage. Do you have help for this?

I am reading. I'm really struggling. I've really lost it i know. I'm outside getting air

Another test, the width if my red blood cells one came back high but the gp doesn't seem too concerned on their notes

First way to beat health anxiety is not post on here for reassurance

Lostworlds · 26/06/2024 19:36

Health related anxiety is awful. My previous therapist had to be quite blunt with me and remind me that once you keep repeatedly asking for reassurance then it’s not going to work.

Right now write down your worries to get them out of your head. Go outside take a deep breath and think about what you can do tonight about the problem- not much so stop googling, you’ll never find the correct answer. Stop going online, it’s not going to help. Give your child a cuddle and choose a comforting tv show/ film to watch. Ease your breathing by focussing on something else.

On Monday, phone your gp and ask for support and advice. Explain how you’re feeling and see if they can talk through why they are testing and what it all means but for tonight you need to let this go! You’ll only make yourself feel rotten so I say this with kindness- stop!

listsandbudgets · 26/06/2024 19:38

DP once had a blood test to do with his kidneys. It came back with such a high creatinine level that he should apparently have been at the stage of complete kidney failure ... they redid the test and it came back normal.

Mistakes sometimes happen in labs OP. You're not going to die - they're going to recheck your blood and either diagnose you with something and treat it or find out it was an error and you actually have perfectly fine liver function.

Go and enjoy the sunny evening and try not to stress about it

LittleSparklyStar · 26/06/2024 19:39

Hello, I’m a nurse. That result is only slightly out of range, it’s nothing to panic about. Your other liver ones are normal! This is fantastic. However, health anxiety is no joke. It’s a form of OCD which is a very disabling mental illness and you absolutely must seek help for this or it will ruin your life.

One of by red blood cell counts for size of always high.

I've spent most of my life aneamic!!!

Honestly in isolation these things can be nothing.

BillySea · 26/06/2024 19:41

If it was anything to be concerned about the doctor/hospital would contact you, they wouldn't wait to hear from you.
As it is, this is not a concerning number.

LittleSparklyStar · 26/06/2024 19:41

As an aside, a high ALP can be caused by the blood not being analysed immediately. So nhs lab, few staff, it’s very hot and the blood clots faster could have potentially elevated your result.

itsgettingweird · 26/06/2024 19:41

I also have a disabled dependent so totally understand the panic about not being there for them.

I would ask for some counselling to help you manage these panic attacks Flowers

Terrifiedshakes · 26/06/2024 19:12

Serum alkaline phosphatase level 23.

I just don't understand. It says I need another blood test

Yes, because it can go up and down. One test on its own is not conclusive a the HP will want to run a second one. I had to have another test (same one) a few weeks later. The new result was back down to normal.

Maray1967 · 26/06/2024 19:42

GP, not HP

Probablyfinebutworried · 26/06/2024 19:43

Some responses on here really lack empathy. You can't just switch anxiety off, it's like telling somebody to just unbreak their leg.

Op, sorry you're feeling shit. Try some slow breathing, with your out breath longer than your in breath. Go for a walk. Watch some funny videos on YouTube or a comedy series you like. And please get some help with your anxiety. I was terrified of taking meds because I was anxious they would make me feel worse or damage me! In fact they made me feel a million times better. Good luck.

Terrifiedshakes · 26/06/2024 19:36

This is the one

Mine has been double that in the past @Terrifiedshakes and I'm fine (well, I've got long covid but my liver is good).

I had repeated tests, was referred for an ultrasound and from there to hepatology. It was 'just one of those things' in the end, nothing major or life changing.

Are you getting help for the anxiety?

Terrifiedshakes · 26/06/2024 19:44

I'm calming down. I'm at a 7 out of 10.

I'm so embarrassed how I react in panic with health anxiety.

My DH said that once, his liver came back high and he was told it was probably due to his IBS

Sapphire387 · 26/06/2024 19:45

I also have health anxiety and it can be crippling. I hear you. Other people won't understand it.

Do you think that your anxiety is possibly rooted in having a disabled child and the overwhelming responsibility and 'what will happen to him if something happens to me?

It will be coming from somewhere.

From a fellow sufferer, you need to chill about your liver results. They can go out of whack for all sorts of reasons, including minor illnesses and medications. My last set were slightly raised (I was postpartum and had a few pregnancy complications)... and the nurse practitioner (who hadn't arranged the test herself) said to me 'this is why I avoid ordering liver tests unless strictly necessary... they are so often raised, it's rarely anything to worry about and just causes anxiety for people'.

Brbreeze · 26/06/2024 19:46

Was this a proper GP blood test?

I ask because I did one of those postal health check ones where you provided your finger and send off a blood sample to square health.

About 5 of the results were high or low related to kidneys and liver. Had repeats done with GP and all normal.
