Gahhh! I NEED a treat! Food cupboards empty of them (deliberately I might add - I've learnt how bad I am in the last couple of days.) Plenty of fruit and nuts about but that's not doing it. Only finished lunch an hour and 15 ago, so not really hungry - just tired.
Haven't managed a clear day yet and you guys are making me feel very guilty. Ho hum. Will have to package up the boys and go for yet another walk - managed to clock up 14,500 steps in attempts to avoid snacking yesterday. I have some seriously bad habits!
Hope your're doing better than me.

hairtwiddler · 09/04/2008 14:02

this morning has been fine. Marmite on toast for breakfast, fruit at work and baked potato with tuna mayo and broad beans for lunch.
This afternoon is going to be tough. I have a tantruming two year old in tow!

QuintessentialShadows · 09/04/2008 15:24

And I am going to face real "hardship" soon, that time of the month.

I already could not resist a small marzipan chicken....

trulymadlydeeply · 09/04/2008 15:55

God I'm STARVING ...

ingles2 · 09/04/2008 16:06

LOL Quintessential at your small marzipan animals..I wouldn't be able to resist either I love them...
Doing ok ish...have been out for a picnic
so have had today
cereal
banana
plum
chicken salad sandwich
ryvita snack
and a lowcal fruit biscuit
Had to watch everyone else eating M&S choc mini things AND icecream!...sigh
I'm hungry.......

QuintessentialShadows · 09/04/2008 16:07

It is amazing to see how many of us actually eat fairly healthily, but keep stuffing ourselves with sweet stuff on the sly!

I have been in denial for years. Secret stash of chocolate raisins, bars of chocolate, ice cream hidding under the fish, etc. My husband has been suspecting, and mentioned my secret habit, yet I have been remaining innocent, going all "no way!".

You are right, it helps the will power to be talking about it finally.

It doesnt matter if we have the odd "slip up" the point is, we are becoming aware of it, we face up to it, and hopefully learn to change it!

I am so pleased!

Yes, I agree too - admitting to the problem is half of solving the problem

Good day so far - shreddies for breakfast, lentil & vegetable soup with a couple of oatcakes & a pear for pudding. have drunk LOTS of peppermint tea & eaten my way through half a pack of chewing gum, but NO SNACKS - yay!
The mere idea of a marzipan chicken makes me feel odd

smugmumofboys · 09/04/2008 16:16

Is it too late to join? I sooooooo need to do this! I eat really healthy veggie meals but have a fearsome snack habit. It's almost like I don't realize I've done it. It's only after the event that I'll notice that I've scoffed half a bag of Kettle Chips.

notnowbernard · 09/04/2008 16:30

bowl of cornflakes and a slice of toast for breakfast
a cheese straw mid morning (oops)
boiled egg and a slice of toast for lunch
no snacks so far this pm
am having chicken with pots and broccoli for dinner

day 10 of no sugar... can't believe it, really

now need to focus on trying to get off the bread habit!

MegBusset · 09/04/2008 16:42

Lunch was a cheese and pickle bagel and a slim-a-soup. Just now: fruit tea and half a banana (DS stole the other half)

MegBusset · 09/04/2008 16:45

Tea will be pasta with pesto and garlic bread -- and deffo a glass of wine. Highly calorific, I know, but the pasta will have veg in it.

FunkyGlassSocks · 09/04/2008 16:56

I said NO to a bar of chocolate this afternoon

trulymadlydeeply · 09/04/2008 19:07

I coule absolutely TROUGH a bag of Kettle crisps at the moment. Wish they had oat cakes in France as well ...

But very interesting to see how many of us suffer from the same snack attack mentality - and how many of us are secret snackers!

mybestfriendiscalledstig · 09/04/2008 19:12

FGG i was kind of hoping that food other people offered you didn't count...

FunkyGlassSocks · 09/04/2008 19:19

I have to really try hardc tonight as after dinner seems to be the hardest time for me. Stupid as I eat dinner at about 8 when the DC have gone to bed and by 9 I am craving chocolate

notnowbernard · 09/04/2008 19:39

Just remember, after a few days the crap will have left your system

Particularly with sugar, if you don't have any, after a while your body will not physially 'need' it and the cravings should subside

I'm not craving sugar so much now (after 10 days)

Am just bloody ravenous all the time and need to start snacking more healthily!

Keep your peckers up, everyone

hairtwiddler · 09/04/2008 19:49

A good day here so far for avoiding temptation, although I'm still feeling terrible. Headache, lethargic, and grumpy! I had a lot of sugar at the weekend before I started this - do you think I'm still in withdrawl?!
Beef olive casserole for dinner with rice. I'm desperate for something sweet now and not sure I can stomach any more fruit! Will go for an oatcake with 100%fruit spread I think.

notnowbernard · 09/04/2008 19:56

Hairtwiddler, I'd say you were definitely still withdrawing

For me, this is very similar to when I gave up smoking (about 9yrs ago)

The first few days were fantastically difficult... then it got a bit easier... then the novelty of stopping wore off and it got very difficult again.... then I got used to not smoking

Haven't had a fag since

I'd say do it a day at a time

hairtwiddler · 09/04/2008 20:14

Thanks. Have just been googling sugar withdrawl, and it does seem to be a bit similar to stopping smoking, although maybe not as severe.
Like you say, a day at a time.

offersinwot · 09/04/2008 20:15

So busy with DS being a handful - I haven't had a chance to catch up with events on here!
I am proud of walking 2 miles with DS today who did all the walk too (so you tell the pace I walked at - didn't break into a sweat!) and food wise, I cracked and ate some small easter ggs before having pasta for tea and a glass of wine.
Will try harder tomorrow

...leaves the computer to sort out DS who sounds as though he is dismantling his bedroom instead of being asleep and 'sweet'

ingles2 · 09/04/2008 20:37

I'm ok,..but mum has got a glass of wine and the dc's have been eating all the chocolate she brought...
I sooo want a glass of wine...but I also want to choose any outfit I want for this wedding and not one that doesn't show my arms/legs/tummy/bum etc etc

Tickle · 09/04/2008 20:37

said no to biccies at our parent-teacher meeting this afternoon

Still doing well and just back from hour long walk. Yoga was cancelled

Tickle · 09/04/2008 20:40

LOL at half a banana Meg - I'm going to have to start hiding my fruit from the kids if they nick any more

liahgen · 09/04/2008 20:57

This is liahgen's daughter.
My mum feels to guilty about eating lots of crap that she can't write it, So i am.

liahgen · 09/04/2008 20:58

In my defense to horrid child, I bought a double buggy today so now I can walk bit quicker than -2 miles per hour with small children.
