For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

eternalstudent · 02/04/2008 19:56

tHINKING ABOUT GETTING ONE REMOVED. Oops. Depends if it will look like a removed tattoo afterwards or whether it will actually be gone. Maybe I'll just get it improved.

UnderRated · 02/04/2008 19:58

Oh, am glad you meant exp and not Mr Lithuania.

Thanks for gardening advice. The bill story (well, the reason for the bill) was made up but the problem is true. I don't know what to do.

FrannyandZooey · 02/04/2008 19:59

Oh well friend was being helpful really, she wasn't meaning to be hurtful at all, she was just being honest about what she saw, it's just hard to take when it's about something like how you are with your children.

stuffitllama · 02/04/2008 20:00

Hi all, hi hi hi
am pleased to hear about your dad wombling but sorry for your worries with DS, I hope they are being extra extra cautious and will be able to reassure you

Boco have definitely have days like yours and I bet your friend with the fabulous advice does too. Was talking to a friend about one of my children today and she gave excellent advice then she said of course if it was my child I'd be at a loss and need this advice from you. And I'm sure that's true in your case too. if you know what I mean (have confused myself there).

UR where do you live -- are you in the US?

You are all fabulous with your veggie planting. I can't do it as have to maintain "ornamental" garden for landlords. Lovely big thing and if it was mine at least a quarter would be ploughed.

hope you have had a good day fran, zippi and all.
have had haricot beans, tomato, three or four raw carrots and two bananas, and a couple more carrots to go.

zippitippitoes · 02/04/2008 20:00

well it was a cross between mr lithuania and exp

i have had oats and raspberries banans apples clementines nutty olivey bread turkey curry a yellow pepper six tomatoes and cauliflour

UnderRated · 02/04/2008 20:01

Where is it, ES? And what is it?

I appear to have a whisker on my chin

stuffitllama · 02/04/2008 20:01

six tomatoes? is that big ones zippi?

zippitippitoes · 02/04/2008 20:02

no cherry ones

UnderRated · 02/04/2008 20:03

Yes, stuffit, am in the US

stuffitllama · 02/04/2008 20:04

I am always impressed at impressive veg consumption and feel some relief at that as I don't think I've ever eaten six tomatoes in one day in my life. Though I guess it is possible.

UnderRated · 02/04/2008 20:05

Why hasn't 100x been here to report on JJ's classes?

And who was it that ordered a like-a-bike? DS got a similar thing at Easter and it is fab.

TooTicky · 02/04/2008 20:05

Don't know UR. Is this real life situatiuon, maths or philosophy?

Zippi, sorry you're sad.

Ds2 has melted his woggle on a light bulb. It is one of those days.

Dd2 sat earnestly chatting to dp earlier when he was trying to sleep...
dd2: where is your beard?
dp: I shaved it off
dd2: can you shave it back on again?
dp: no
dd2: I would like to grow a beard when I'm older

zippitippitoes · 02/04/2008 20:05

i think there is some rule that you cant just eat more of things and count them as more portions

i have eaten a whole tin of tomatoe s in a meal before

stuffitllama · 02/04/2008 20:05

I think I've seen you up late before UR -- must be frustrating to see everyone go to bed sometimes!

FrannyandZooey · 02/04/2008 20:06

zippi you can in 10 / 10
because we eat MORE so we can eat double portions if we like
or 6 tomatoes

pointydog · 02/04/2008 20:08

congrats on your thread title

stuffitllama · 02/04/2008 20:09

I like eating jars of organic peas. I'm worried about the everything has to be different rule. Very worried. Everything will have to change.

Have introduced children to new flavour, due to mistaking frozen squid for frozen cod. They demolished my cheesy squid pie and said euw only when I told them what it was. They have only ever eaten deep fried calamari before which tastes of fat and salt and also the smallest is a big fan of Spongebob so was a bit horrified at eating Squidward but at least I know I can do it again. Also it was cheaper than cod.

zippitippitoes · 02/04/2008 20:09

i am never good at eating vegetables tho

i just eat loads of fruit

UnderRated · 02/04/2008 20:10

Toot, it's a maths question really, I think. Your DD2 can be my friend when she grows her beard

Stuffit, I take full advantage of nap time and come on MN when everyone else is here. And then again when they are all in bed

fryalot · 02/04/2008 20:10

just a quick hijack to say this is another good thread title... it has me humming the bloody timmy mallet tune while I'm mumsnetting. Well done, keep up the good work

stuffitllama · 02/04/2008 20:11

sorry to be boring, just read that back (where is that yawn icon when you need it)

I will have to take small steps to start -- more of what we currently eat, then start introducing different stuff slowly. I feel like we're in the right direction though.
