For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Hello everyone

Welcome back Boco - sorry about motorway madness

It seems really strange everyone going away as the children here havn;t broken up for the "Easter" holidays

Which reminds me. WE find out later today about DS' school

FMV can you expand on phone call? Sorry it has upset you so much

I started my new hours at work today. Everyone had forgotten and thought I had forgotten to change the clocks

It was rather surreal as instead of starting off the morning gently with a cup of nettle tea and half an hour to peacefully dither through my e-mails, I was flung straight into the breach with people pouncing on me and saying

"I know you've only just come in, but...."

TooTicky · 31/03/2008 17:18

Oh dear Lully. Peaceful, cheering vibes to ds, de-arsing vibes to dp and generally lovely vibes to you.
Oh, and peanut shoots??????

Hello FK

I have decided what I want to do. I want to work in the school here, as teaching assistant or something. It is lovely there and I so enjoy being with the children.
Let's hope there is an opening when dd2 starts school...

FrannyandZooey · 31/03/2008 17:30

my parents have gone
I am knackered
it was all a bit of a blur but I remember my mother trying to give ds wine to drink, and going ON and ON about how enormous I am and how she was never so big, not even when she was 9 months pg, and how all the other pg women she knows who are 6 mo pg are not nearly the size I am

vegetably goodness to all those struggling with life
I wonder when this angsty phase will pass

That sounds like a good plan Toots - ideal, hope something comes up soon.

Have been for a long walk and we're all very muddy. Friend came with his dog Mr Blue who the girls LOVED - he shook hands with them and it won them over(the dog did) . Friend brought me flowers - I haven't been bought flowers for years I was quite stunned. And there are so many of them I've put them in 3 different vases.

Boco · 31/03/2008 17:32

Oh dear Franny - well done for surviving parents. It sounds wearying - is that a word?

TooTicky · 31/03/2008 17:39

I am operating through a fug of tiredness. Ds1` had a personal crisis this morning and it took me an hour to get him from car to school.
I haven't really had breakfast or lunch.

FrannyandZooey · 31/03/2008 17:43

it was beyond wearying - I am shagged
went to gym at half time just to escape (in retrospect was mistake but had to GET AWAY)
they looked after ds while I did which was nice
bought me flowers
made a cake
all v nice and kind
but they say they are coming back in 6 weeks - would it be unreasonable to ask them to take me OUT instead of me doing lunch and clearing up and NOT have to keep making them interminable cups of tea? That combined with having to clean the whole ruddy house first has done me in

How's the duck, Franny? I once saw a squirrel get stuck on a roof. He jumped up there and had no idea hpw to get down. He investigated lots of different ways down and in the end threw himself off toward a tree. I swear, he closed his eyes as he jumped. My sister had a baby seagull living on her roof for weeks. Hope you have recovered from The Visit.

What is happening with your DN, Avi? That's awful.

Lots of listed buildings burn down for no apparent reason after they've had planning permission refused.

Sorry your DH is being an arse, Lully. You seem to be having a rough time recently. What will you do about the wedding?

Thanks for all the pats and sympathy. I'm just being miserable atm. It'll pass.

It's raining and thundering and I feel the need to bake or do something comforting like that. But I can't bake because I am trying to Be Good and not eat sugar/ flour etc, even if it is home baked.

Grapes, raisins, 2 bananas, hummus, carrots. Don't suppose quinoa counts? I've probably asked that before.

FrannyandZooey · 31/03/2008 18:16

oh I think he is ok UR
he does live next door a lot of the year, I've just never seen him on the roof before

quinoa is great but doesn't count
am trying to think of something healthy you could bake
no flour? tricky

Franny I'm really glad you liked Little Miss Sunshine, it made me cry with laughter when the horn was stuck on the camper van - very silly. I must send you the life aquatic! Did you watch Being John Malkovich too?

Where am I sending Harold and Maude? I saw a florist of that name in Bristol.

TooTicky · 31/03/2008 18:21

How about flapjack? Oats are great and you can use dates (cooked with a little) instead of syrupy stuff.

UnderRated · 31/03/2008 18:24

We'll just make fruit salad and do playdough or something.

Little Miss Sunshine is fab. I might have to watch that again

UnderRated · 31/03/2008 18:25

Flapjacks are a good idea actually. Perhaps we'll do that. No dates though - would prunes work?

TooTicky · 31/03/2008 18:29

Worth a try. Chop them up and cook in a little water until trhey are squiashy. You may or may not need a little sugar as well. Or banana?

FrannyandZooey · 31/03/2008 18:31

we didn't watch John M yet
I loved Little Miss S very much and that exact thing with the horn happened to us while driving through Aldeburgh

I think Harold and Maude is going to Bee or did I make that up?

Homemade baked muesli: (from Lucy Burney's Optimum Nutrition - fab book)

3 cups oats
1 cup wheatgerm
1/4 cup sesame seeds
1/4 cup linseeds
1/4 cup sunflower seeds
4 tbsp ground almonds
1 tbsp barley malt (dissolve in a little warm water as v sticky otherwise)
1 tbsp blackstrap molasses (ditto)
1/4 cup olive oil
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp ground cinnamon
2 cups raisins
1/2 cup desiccated coconut

Mix all ingredients up to almonds in a bowl. In a separate bowl, mix malt, molasses, oil, vanilla, and cinnamon. Mix wet with dry. Spread on 2 baking trays and bake for 20 mins until golden brown, stirring after 10 mins. Add the raisins and coconut and allow to cool. Once cooled store in an airtight jar or tin in the fridge.

Very entertaining to make with young children.

FrannyandZooey · 31/03/2008 18:34

sorry you probably won't have all ingredients
(I would be impressed if you did!)
but good for another time, I must make some myself

TooTicky · 31/03/2008 18:34

I want granola cereal
I am huingry.
2 loaves of bread have disappeared since early afternoon. I did see ds1 with a 5-slice sandwich at one point

UnderRated · 31/03/2008 18:35

Yes, Granola is a good idea too. Will do that I think. Or try the prunes. I'd use a banana but I just ate the last one. Decisions, decisions...

lol @ Franny's horn problem

UnderRated · 31/03/2008 18:44

Sadly I do not have all the ingredients. But can improvise. Have never seen linseeds. Ever. Oh, hold on, that's flax, isn't it? In which case I do have some. Oh dear. I think I need a nap.
