For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

ds's first ever party is looking doubtful
I dont think he'll have any friends to invite by then

God I must make more of an effort to be sociable & invite people
I'm such a hermit

FrannyandZooey · 30/03/2008 12:40

Oh Lully
he is very little
I don't think we did all this big parties with lots of friends thing when I was his age
I think to have proper friends at this age is rare tbh

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 30/03/2008 12:40

stuffit is it a big difference then? how did you get the impetus to do it?

Fullmoonfiend · 30/03/2008 13:08

oh lully, my eldest ds's 1st birthday was a disaster as I got bullied into a joint one with an ante-natal class 'friend' who turned out to be an utter control freak. I had no say in anything and wished i had just had family round....

and ds2 was really poorly on his first birthday and spent the entire time roaring or in tears...

but the thing is, now they look at the photos and beam and think their first parties were a triumph

Franny, I did a tower of beautiful fairy cakes for one of our parties instead of a big cake and the children loved it

lionheart · 30/03/2008 13:39

Who is it on here who does those cakes with tiers and towers and all that?

I can't admit to anything more specific, Franny, because I am still digesting it.

stuffitllama · 30/03/2008 13:41

Lully I know what you mean, I have moved several times and one gets tired of going out there and doing one's thing on this move it's definitely been the children that made me get my arse into gear socially! But they say for parties one guest per age of child so three for three, four for four etc seems to make sense to me.

Franny it really is -- have created a separate den for the children, totally cleared the spare room and va-voomed my daughter's room. Very pleased with it all. The impetus was three days in the house on my own, no one to cook for, no outings to plan etc. The first day I didn't get out of my pj's and worked all day!

I have 2 questions: do potatoes count if they are not in their jackets -- I suspect not.
and.. I have these non-organic strawberries and I know that water doesn't wash off the chemicals. I have this theory, that if I lather them in sugar and leave it for an hour or two, then more of the chemicals will seep into the sugar by a process of osmosis. I then wash off the sugar. Do you think this is true?

stuffitllama · 30/03/2008 13:43

Seeker has fancy cakes on her profile but i don't think she does 10/10.

Two carrots. Have prepared carrots, cabbage, courgette, red peppers, parsnip, beans and strawberries for dinner. Luckily it's a small chicken.

Tatties · 30/03/2008 13:47

I am feeling wobbly about ds's birthday actually. We are not having a party, just family round, but I am still panicking at the thought of doing food and getting the house clean and tidy I keep trying to tell myself that it in ds's eyes it will be fine - we've got him some presents I think he will like and he loves having visitors unlike his antisocial mum

stuffitllama · 30/03/2008 13:52

hi tatties why not select a "dump room" of which the door will remain closed the whole party -- and steam round putting everything out of place in a big cardboard box and leaving it out of sight

now you see why i had to bottom my house.....

ladywombling · 30/03/2008 14:00

Tatts,

Don't worry, it will be lovely, and you too lully, a couple of friends will be fine, honestly. DS 1st birthday is coming up on the 11th and we are having a birthday tea with a couple of friends and family, although i have not even thought about it.

Franny, hope that the talk helped to make things a bit better, it must be hard to have to deal with when you have your own issues to deal with too.

On a brighter note, I did individual initialled fairy cakes for dd's 1st b'day and they were a huge hit

lullabyloo · 30/03/2008 14:04

fmv....it's ds's 4th birthday
We have never had a party before
!st was a tea here with close friends but ds got scarlett fever & ran a temp of 107 & I spent the day in floods of tears
2 nd we had his best little friend here for tea ( who now lives in K L ) and went to Legoland
3rd we went to Drusillas for the day

Ds is determined he will have a pirate party & chocolate cake tho this year

FrannyandZooey · 30/03/2008 14:41

sorry for all party angst
I think the birthday children in question will have a fab time even if their parents are having traumas

I'm afraid potatoes don't count full stop. I'm sorry to have to tell you this. If they did count I would reach 10 a LOT more frequently, that's for sure. But I do not make the rules

OP posts:
lullabyloo · 30/03/2008 14:44

lol

ds has gone off potatoes completely
the smell of baked potatoes makes him cough

stuffitllama · 30/03/2008 15:14

oh flip i thought baked might do

any idea on the strawbs and chemicals anyone?

dh due home with wee ones in 15 so i'm probably saying goodbye and goodnight now

xx

zippitippitoes · 30/03/2008 18:12

wel we had lovely sunny weather for working outside, coinsidering the small size of the bit we were doing it posssibly didnt amount to much but it is feeling slightly nearer being manageable tyo imagine how to sort it out

cakes all sound lovely as does lemon curd cream and blueberries

on the pretiness of fairy cakes the barbie sparkle fairy decorations do look lovely on cakes but are not eaxcatly 10/10

my friend went on a double date yesterday as far as i can mak eout he noticed my silence at this nesw...as he mentioned it on the phone...i am trying to disregard this ...well he said he went to the climbing wall with a male friend he hadn't seen for ages who was on a date with a girl and her friend went too

i am impressed by all the house tidying and nice things for children

franny i did feel i should back off from commenting on drinking and stuff so i did but understand where you are coming from
