Nasty cold virus

Anyone else got a nasty cold/cough virus which comes and goes and seems especially cling on type?

Had this for about a week. Feel like you’re getting better then bam no. Not Covid. Tested a few times.

Thanks for all the experiences! @IcanandIwill and @justmewithmylifetoday I spoke with DM yesterday who has same virus (I caught from going over there, stepdad has it) and she and I were comparing sinus pain. I’ve had sinusitis in the past twice. It’s a killer.

Feeling slightly better today. Where have these viruses come from lately? Cold and mild weather formed breeding grounds for it? Post covid weak immune systems? I’ve had all Covid jabs, boosters, take zinc daily C and had flu jab too.

I've just developed an awful chesty cough that won't shift and have now lost my voice . Meds from the pharmacy aren't helping and I'm on holiday next Friday, awful .

Go to the doctor!

Had one like that back in October. Took a good month to get rid of. No sign of anything bacterial, so just snuffled it out.

I don’t get paid if I don’t work (temp on contract) so have day off rarely. Might take a day off tomorrow though. Supposed to be in office Monday morning to minute take and don’t think that’ll happen.

Mine is sore throats that come and go, lots of mucous (sorry tmi) and nausea. The nausea is the worst ☹️

I feel sick a bit. Not been sick. Appetite way down.

Oh I'll join this club! Horrid cold/ cough, have had temp and sweats over the last 3/4 nights but the cough is the worst. Feels like it's all at the bottom of my chest so it takes quite a bit of coughing to get things moving.

My ribs and head hurt from all the coughing - I have a feeling it's going to linger too. Appetite is reduced and just generally feeling a bit rough!

doppelgangermirror · 04/02/2024 10:15

DDs have both had this - it just seems to go on and on! DS now sounds like he has the start of it, and DH have both been fighting it off for 3 or 4 days by the feel of it.

TheFairyCaravan · 04/02/2024 10:20

Yes I have had it for almost 2 weeks, although it doesn’t come and go, it’s always there. I thought I had Covid because the headaches and cough have been so bad but a test was negative. My appetite is non existent and I keep feeling so sickly.

I can’t remember the last time I felt this unwell, tbh.

Glücklichzusehen · 04/02/2024 12:25

I have this, am on day 5 of being in bed and still don't feel any better. Usually only lasts a few days with me.

dingit · 04/02/2024 13:00

I went to the dr and was told antibiotics aren't prescribed until you have pneumonia. He told me to return in a week if still the same. That will be this Tuesday. I did get some mucous cough syrup from chemist but that makes me sick.
No idea what I will be given 🙄

Bouledeneige · 04/02/2024 14:47

Had a horrible throat one before Christmas and now ill again. Temperature, headaches, nausea, runny nose, aching all over and exhaustion. So fed up.

MissyB1 · 04/02/2024 18:48

A lot of places I would with have got Covid, we work in a school so they’ve been testing.

MissyB1 · 04/02/2024 18:49

people I work with that should have said!

ohthehokey · 04/02/2024 20:25

Yes I know loads of people who've had it and been knocked for six. One friend is a couple of months in and not feeling any better (although she's not the healthiest to start with)

Gangshow · 04/02/2024 23:13

This is me. I've had 4 days off so far as I'm exhausted. Was hoping to go back into work tomorrow but not sure if I'll make it through

But this isn’t Covid. I’ve tested at least 3 times and negative and DM and stepdad in a different house (but I visited and got it there!) have same. DM has been very firm with stepdad saying he should stay in bed if he gets similar again. Not only not to give it to me but also not to DM who’s immune compromised, as am I.

I don’t get sick pay so usually take days off only if I have to. So last Friday but will take off tomorrow if need be. Feel sort of better but then another lovely symptom comes along and takes its place! Think will be better by Wednesday as it took hold then/Thursday last week.

I really think here, it’s been freezing cold, then mild, kids back to school, immune systems still not back on track post Covid so thx time is right/ripe to get anything.

I get asthma anyway, not badly but enough to know that colds etc I get quite easily. Funnily enough with this one, not a huge amount of cough or sneezing but some. But virus symptoms including sickness, aches etc loads. On buses for work I open windows. In fact I prefer the bus as though it’s slightly longer I don’t have to worry about air conditioning on trains, can open windows and 2 bus stops and buses are nearer than the train station.

Me? It comes and goes. Stepdad and mum who text and ring me a lot say theirs is finally clearing a bit, my mum less stepdad more but he’s had it since last Sunday (not this one just gone) and she and I seem to have picked it up about Wednesday.

Today I got prescribed antibiotics. Let's hope they work!

WeeOrcadian · 06/02/2024 17:20

Sorry OP, I'm now into week 13, it's grim. I cannot begin to explain how much snot I'm making. I'm done with it and would give a kidney for it to be fine now

Summerx · 06/02/2024 17:55

I've had two weeks since early October where I've actually felt well, it's horrible!! The amount of mucous I'm producing is ridiculous! Seriously fed up with it now. Every time I think it's going, it comes back with a vengeance. I'm so tired.. Sad

citrusfruit1 · 06/02/2024 19:57

Oh my gosh WeeOrcadian 13 weeks!!! What has the doctor said? I’m just going into week 6 and my mental health is in tatters, convinced I have some type of terrible disease even though docs say it’s just a virus. Today I’ve managed to pull my back from the coughing and nose blowing which is fabulous as I’m now in agony every time I cough! You can’t make it up!

My DM got antibiotics yesterday.

I still feel not quite right (much better than I was though) but think I’ll be fine to WFH rest of the week and luckily I can do that. I don’t get sick pay so have to take hit in salary.

dingit · 06/02/2024 20:15

Has anyone got snot coming through the roof of mouth as well as coughing it up? Believe it or not this is better as I'm not being sick. Although everything seems to taste of bogies.Envy
