How much water do you drink ?

I've always known I probably don't drink enough water every day and in order to help my weight loss I need to drink more. So after a quick google I should be drinking about 3 litres a day. I've just measured that out and it's almost 9 tumblers!! I'm going to be at the loo a lot!!
I drink plenty of tea and coffee throughout the day but I know that's not as good for me.
I'm committed to trying but it seems a lot! How much water do you all drink a day?

About 4 litres. I have a drinking bottle that I fill up 4 times a day. I work from home so can go to the toilet as often as I like.

Fizbosshoes · 20/11/2023 09:53

I can't imagine drinking 2+ litres a day! I find it pretty boring to get though 1 500ml bottle in a day! (And I think I'd be on the loo all day!)

Chickenwing2 · 20/11/2023 11:02

I drink loads of water. It's my only good habbit. I think it may also be to do with anxiety and drinking out my water bottle is how I deal with nerves? I carry a 500ml water bottle with me and do probably fill it back up about 5 times during the day. At work I pee every hour!

ErrolTheDragon · 20/11/2023 12:25

I suppose drinking an excess of water at work may be a good idea health wise if it makes you get up for a pee regularly instead of staying sitting at your desk for hours!Grin

For those like me who dislike water but want to increase fluid intake - I put a dash of this elderflower cordial which is 0% sugar; they do other flavours

You get used to drinking a lot and your bladder can hold more. Even when I was pregnant I could drink a litre without needing toilet for a while

Yes, but there's a happy medium. Overstretching your bladder is possible and not a good idea.

I drink about a litre of liquid a day. I know I should drink more, but it's just not practical, because then I need to pee every 5 minutes!

sixteenfurryfeet · 20/11/2023 14:13

Well the NHS website says 6-8 cups of fluid a day and that can include tea, coffee and milk as well as plain water.

So I'd go by what an official health website in the UK recommends, rather than a random online search.

bryceQ · 20/11/2023 14:14

I think more people suffer with weak bladder control than overstretch it.

I've never had a bladder infection or any issues and I've drank a lot of water my whole life... Probably not connected but I've also had about 3 spots my whole life and very clear skin

Allmarbleslost · 20/11/2023 14:17

None at all through autumn and winter - I don't want cold drinks. Probably a glass or two a day in summer if it's hot.

BlazingWorld · 20/11/2023 14:18

A tumbler with dinner
A pint over the course of the night
Then three or four cups of camomile tea , and two coffees

TheHawkisHowling · 20/11/2023 14:33

I have between five and 15 pints of water a day, every day.

I cannot stand feeling dehydrated. It baffles me that people can. It rarely happens to me and when it does, I feel utterly wretched. The idea that people spend their whole lives feeling that bad astonishes me.

I'm also constantly being told I don't look anywhere near my age. If what I'm being told is right, I could knock a decade off my age and get away with it. (I don't see it myself though!!)

uncomfortablydumb53 · 20/11/2023 14:57

One 750ml bottle of dilute squash
3 pints of coffee( instant)
1 or 2 cans of Coke Zero
My medication causes dry mouth

My Google shows that the Mayo clinic suggests 2.7 litres per day for women, and it can come from any source… beverages, food etc. You don’t need to drink plain water.

If you did, I would be long dead.

This ^^
If your urine is a pale colour it means that you are well hydrated. Your fluid can come from any source.
The 8 glasses of water a day myth was debunked years ago.

I only drink water if I am thirsty, which doesn't happen very much at this time of year. Luckily, I have a tea habit, so I keep hydrated by drinking tea.

Mayhemmumma · 20/11/2023 15:09

I really notice it and feel dreadful if I drink less than:

I litre of plain water
2 or 3 herbal teas
Sometimes 1 decaf coffee

LadeOde · 20/11/2023 15:11

I drink 3 pints of water a day. I know that unit of measurement sounds odd but i have special pint glasses and use that to measure what I've drunk. The 3 pints work perfectly well with my system. Constipation is a thing of the past, flushes out my system brilliantly, skin clear and no more outbreaks. That as much as i can take.

RampantIvy · 20/11/2023 16:24

15 pints! Shock

That is a huge amount of water. Do you do a very physical job in high temperatures?

LadeOde · 20/11/2023 16:58

Just noticed I said upthread no more 'outbreaks' instead of BREAKOUTS GrinGrin

HobbleY · 20/11/2023 17:03

Between 2/2.5 litres a day. I only know that as I have one of those massive water bottles that measures how much you’ve drunk and tells you to keep going!

I’ll tell you what though, since drinking more water, my skin really does look and feel 20 times better.

I don't think I could drink 15 pints of any sort of liquid/drink in a day! Even if I've run a marathon!

Im pretty sure there are health risks from over hydrating as well because it dilutes the salts/electrolytes

Petrine · 20/11/2023 19:55

It’s bad for your health to drink too much water. It can result in coma and even death in rare cases.

Peckahminn11 · 20/11/2023 23:06

When I was younger all I used to drink was water. It wasn't until 17/18 I started to drink anything else! Now I only drink it in coffee or when it's hot
