How much water do you drink ?

I've always known I probably don't drink enough water every day and in order to help my weight loss I need to drink more. So after a quick google I should be drinking about 3 litres a day. I've just measured that out and it's almost 9 tumblers!! I'm going to be at the loo a lot!!
I drink plenty of tea and coffee throughout the day but I know that's not as good for me.
I'm committed to trying but it seems a lot! How much water do you all drink a day?

Yes,too much water can make you Ill,People have actually died Drinking too much can remove essential minerals from the body and cause cardiac problems. Even cheese has fluid .

MrsRetriever · 19/11/2023 07:38

Lots. My bottle holds about 800ml & I refill it a couple of times a day, more when I’m in the office as there’s a chilled water tap.

Sometimes have squash or fruit juice (watered down) and I also drink tea and coffee, a couple of cups each a day.

I find if I don’t drink enough water then I want to eat and drink more in the evenings.

I don’t feel like I pee more than average - maybe just used to it!

Those PP's drinking a good amount in a day - do you notice a difference if you don't get your usual amount in?

I do - I feel sluggish, dry sticky mouth sort of feeling and headachy.

I drink lots of decaf tea and 1 Diet Coke in the day plus around 2l of water. I don't feel saturated with fluid, your body really adapts to it and I'm not in the toilet every 5 mins either.

I regularly look (with a camera) inside peoples mouths and throats and the difference with people who don't drink enough is staggering.

Namechange4234 · 19/11/2023 07:44

I'd start with 1.5 to 2 litresa day and get a lot from fruit or herb teas if you don't like plain water

Westfacing · 19/11/2023 07:44

Rarely drink plain water - at night I take a glass of very dilute elderflower cordial to bed to sip as and when.

During the day I have two large coffees and two large teas, a glass of two of said elderflower.

The NHS doesn't give a volume but recommends 6-8 glasses of fluid per day, and this includes tea and coffee

Water, drinks and hydration - NHS (www.nhs.uk)

I reckon that's about 1,500mls.

Please can you elaborate on this? I'd love to know more about it.

MyFavouriteBlankWall · 19/11/2023 09:37

I drink about 4 glasses (1/2 pt) of water and 4 cups of tea or coffee a day.

A Urologist told me that 1 litre (2 pints) is adequate. Some foods have fluid in - cucumber, melon, etc., also obvious ones like soup, custard.

ladeluge · 19/11/2023 09:38

I rarely drink plain water unless I am ill, very thirsty, or in a hot country/hot weather. Generally we don't need as much as "advised" since a lot of hydration comes from food, tea, coffee, juice etc.

If you absolutely LIKE water, go ahead - but there are some (like me) who find water drinking an absolute bore.

I also dislike being told what to eat and drink by so called "experts". It is the amount of fluid per day that's important, not what it consists of.

PortalooSunset · 19/11/2023 12:28

Probably 2-3 litres, more in hot weather. Sometimes weak squash, but I really like ice cold water. 1 coffee first thing then several hundred cups of tea as well.
If I don't drink enough water I get really crabby!

olderbutwiser · 19/11/2023 12:36

None, but I drink a lot of tea and my urine is always a healthy colour.

MaloneMeadow · 19/11/2023 14:24

Enough. It’s a fad - your body will tell you if you’re drinking enough water per day by telling you if it’s thirsty or not. The stupid trend of drinking huge quantities per day to ‘detox and cleanse’ your body is a myth and can actually be dangerous

Bouncyball23 · 19/11/2023 14:43

I have a 1litre bottle fill it 3 times a day morning, afternoon, then early evening does not feel like I drink loads and since starting todo this 3 months ago I've lost 10lb 😊

blobby10 · 19/11/2023 14:57

I drink lots of water plus 5 mugs of tea or coffee per day - usually around 4 litres of water, more if it’s warm x I’m trying to cut down a bit as I am think it’s too much - started when I was a teen and read that drinking water give you clear skin and makes you lose weight. It doesn’t do either but now I’m stuck in a habit of drinking lots of water!!

Bellabluea · 19/11/2023 15:03

None. I went through a phase of drinking loads and I found I was peeing so much it was interfering with sleep and life! I drink more when at work, probably 1.5L as lm active and get thirsty but I let my body decide.

@Pozz you can always see when people are not drinking enough (or drink too much caffeinated fluids) and they are awash with thick sticky secretions in the throat rather than the wet slippery type we should have for proper mucosal lubrication for a healthy voice and swallow.

There is often food debris sticking to the dry mucosa, sticky secretions which won't shift, chronic throat clearing, sensation of things in the throat that aren't there (globus), reflux, thrush, poor oral / pharyngeal hygiene.

So many things are helped by proper hydration.

UpUpUpU · 19/11/2023 16:45

Enough to fully hydrate myself, if I were a hamster.

Coffee on the other hand, enough to drown an elephant.

It's so interesting, thank you for taking the time to reply. 😊

tokesqueen · 19/11/2023 07:33

None. I just have three coffees a day, more out of habit.
Am rarely thirsty.

That's pretty much the same with me.

ErrolTheDragon · 19/11/2023 23:27

Why is the water myth so persistent?Confused the '8 glasses a day' originated from an unresearched guess of 2.5 L per day but that was all sources including food and beverages.

Well, at least it's cheap. Maybe it can help with weight loss if you're drinking water instead of snacking or having calorific drinks.

I hardly ever drink water in the U.K whereas if I'm on holiday somewhere warm especially if doing something active I can down pints at a time.

If I don't drink water I feel like my urine is "dense" it feels heavier somehow. I would have a cracking headache if I drank tea and coffee all day

LubaLuca · 20/11/2023 09:22

I only drink water when I'm exercising, otherwise it's tea and coffee amounting to a couple of litres I reckon.

I don't enjoy drinking it, so I try not to which I know is ridiculous because it takes a few seconds to drink a glass and I know it would be better for me than the caffeine-laden drinks I choose instead. I'll learn one day.

Fizbosshoes · 20/11/2023 09:26

I used to drink no water at all unless I was doing a long run (a few sips from a water station in a race, or maybe 200ml if I was doing a 15+ mile run) orif I was in a hot country.

About a year ago I decided i should drink more water so I have a 500ml bottle at work that I try to finish throughout the day. The only difference I've noticed is that I go for a wee far more frequently. I've noticed no difference at all to skin, weight, hunger etc.

MassiveFuckingSalad · 20/11/2023 09:28

About 1-1.5 litres a day.

I also have a couple of cups of tea, some OJ and oat milk.

DownNative · 20/11/2023 09:32

I only drink water these days and have done so since 2016 due to having silent reflux. So I drink throughout the day and into evenings as well.

At first, I needed to pee a lot, but once my body got used to it I certainly didn't need to do so a lot!

Probably 3 litres a day, possibly 2 litres. But I don't actually measure it. A lot more than anyone else I know, for sure!

My skin looks pretty good all these years on, I don't snack mindlessly and am slimmer than I was which is mostly down to a healthy diet where I make everything from scratch.

As Cristiano Ronaldo said during Euro 2020, "Agua....náo Coca-Cola(!)" with a disgusted look. 🤣
