Thank you LadyJogsaLot, I'll give that a go. I'm planning to go out once DS is dropped off at school. I'm going to use the walk there as my warm up, then try the first podcast.

debbiewebweb · 28/05/2008 09:11

I lost my mojo after RFL too Wheely, but it finally seems to be back and I'm itching to get out. But with kids home all week and going away for the weekend I'm not sure I'll get out, but at least I feel like I actually want to.

electricbarbarella · 28/05/2008 11:53

smug of smugsville here, i have just got back from a run, not only did i do 6k which is the furthest i have done but I did it in 36mins, which i am seriously well chuffed with.
Enter another run for later in the year that should keep you going.

gscrym · 28/05/2008 12:32

I've just done Podcast 1 for the first time. I didn't make it through the whole thing, had to walk for the one of the middle runs and lost 10 seconds of the next one. I did brisk walking for the bits I missed. I've been dying to go out all morning but has been chucking it down all morning. I went out seeing as it died down a bit.

Might try again tomorrow. I'll see how I feel.

Furball · 28/05/2008 14:46

don't worry grsym - at least you went out!

I used to run really slowly (literally as slow as walking) to save energy. It will come and like I say at least you went out.

sounds good to me, going out in the rain is worth many brownie points, although I prefer it as you don't get too hot.

Wheelybug · 28/05/2008 19:43

Well done and welcome Gscrym !

Hello everyone else - Debs, glad to hear I'm not the only one who lost their mojo after RFL. I think once I've started again I'll be ok. Am going out tomorrow as dd is in a play morning and then should get out saturday morning and then next week normal service resumes.

Amazingly weight is creeping back on - its amazing how the running keeps it down. Although might also have been the huge amount of food I ate in Scotland .

Wheelybug · 29/05/2008 11:43

Reporting in...

I have just run 5.1K (that .1 is obviously v. important !) - took about 30 mins but quite enjoyed it. Had mapped a 4K run that could have turned into a 4.5 or 5 K and started out slowly and just kept going so feel much much better now... Think my mojo may be well and truly back - hurrah !

Good thing really as realised that a 10K at the end of Sept isn't great timing with the summer hols coming up (and we're away for a couple of weeks of that) so I think I need to get up to 10K before the summer hols so I can keep it ticking over - yikes !!

electricbarbarella · 29/05/2008 14:43

well done wheely, good when it comes back isn't it, i have to force myself to go on every run I go on but I don't half feel goos after.
I may try 7k at the weekend since 6 was not that much harder than 5.

Itsthawooluff · 30/05/2008 13:15

I've just done 5k, but a combination of running and walking. Keeping fingers crossed for a cloudy but dry day on Sunday. Going to enjoy myself whatever happens.

Wheelybug · 30/05/2008 15:10

Good luck for sunday wooluff - you'll do just fine.

Wheelybug · 30/05/2008 15:10

Good luck for sunday wooluff - you'll do just fine.

Wheelybug · 30/05/2008 15:12

see, thats lots of luck coming your way

electricbarbarella · 30/05/2008 15:51

Good luck wooly, you will do us all proud.
I can't get out all weekend.

Wheelybug · 31/05/2008 11:26

Where's everyone gone ??

Have a good run tomorrow Woolly ! Will be thinking of you and cheering you on .

Have just run 6.75 so feel like 10K in 7 weeks might just be achievable....

Itsthawooluff · 31/05/2008 11:55

Thanks very much - now please all chant "Cloudy but dry, cloudy but dry".

The wooluffcubs are also doing it, but walking and a bit of trotting, with a friend from school, strict instructions to keep together and a mobile phone. Can you run whilst looking over shoulder?

And just in case anyone is horrified, eldest cub is very very sensible, they know to follow the course, I will be there at the end, and DH is under instruction to keep an eyes out at salient points.

MarsLady · 31/05/2008 12:12

I hate running but my sister has just signed me up to a 5km run in September. I shall be back for tips. For now... I wonder how much cake is in the house!!!!!!!!!!!

Furball · 31/05/2008 13:27

Yes, really really good luck for tomorrow wooluffy!

WOOLUFF ,WOOLUFF ,WOOLUFF ,WOOLUFF

(obviously the chant is to the cubs as well)

electricbarbarella · 31/05/2008 14:41

go wooly, go wooly, go wooly.
Cloudy but dry (maybe a slight drizzle towards the end to freshen.

debbiewebweb · 31/05/2008 18:47

Go wooluff go. Have a fab time, it will be dry and cloudy so have fun. We'll all be cheering you on

Wheelybug · 31/05/2008 19:21

cloudy but dry... cloudy but dry...

Don't worry about the cubs - I don't know how old yours are but there were loads of kids doing ours and it was perfectly safe. V well marshalled etc. Just make sure they don't beat you (I was beaten by lots of children !)

Itsthawooluff · 01/06/2008 16:04

The chanting worked - cloudy but dry. Hooray. I've no idea what my exact time was but I think it was about 35mins - I was too busy trying not to throw up in front of thousands of people at the end, having just decided to go for a sprint finish uphill (daft cow).

For anyone else who is running RFL my tips are as follows:

  1. It's a great atmosphere. I was following someone who had "Life is not about the amount of breath you have left" on the back of her shirt - which really helped me on.
  1. If you are training on a treadmill - do some road work, the difference in surfaces really does make a huge difference, especially as I was running round a race course for a large part of it, and so was on very uneven grass.
  1. Get to the front if you want to run all the way - there will be a lot of people who will join the runners section who will run 200 yds then walk strung out in a line of 5 of them so you can't get round them - sorry if that sounds a bit churlish, but it was hard work picking my way round them.

4.Just as you get to the hill at about 3.75k, and have to walk or pass out, you will be passed by a very fit woman running fast whilst pushing her teenage daughter in a wheelchair. I was very humbled (but still couldn't start running again until the top of the hill).

  1. If you are the woman I trod all over as I was trying to sprint to the finish line - I'm really very sorry - I was taken over by my long dormant competitive spirit.
  1. Enjoy
debbiewebweb · 01/06/2008 18:04

YEAH!! Fab wooluff, well done, you should feel really proud.
I second the tips below - especially 3, I'm no athlete so hung round near the back of the runners at race start and then spent what seemed like a huge amount of time trying to get past those who were already walking just a few minutes in. I know its for fun and all about the bigger picture - but I'll be heading to the front at the start of next years .... well hopefully . Well done again !

LadyJogsAlot · 01/06/2008 18:11

cor well done wooluf!
i think i should sign myself u to get motivated again.
didn't go out this week.
hope to go out this week at least twice!

Wheelybug · 01/06/2008 18:33

yeah wooluff !! Well done - you're a star ! How did the children do ?

Come on LJA - pull your (running) socks up and get back out there ! You'll be fine once you start again.
