I've got COVID and it's so much worse than last time - achy joints, sore teeth & gums, headache, cold, chills .... horrible. Anyone else?

We have it in the house , I'm just starting to feel poorly although negative at the moment. It's flooring friends who have had it mildly 3 or 4 times. Hope you feel better soon.

tolookonthebrightside · 16/09/2023 13:54

Thank you.

Had it a couple of weeks back.

Early 30s, very fit and healthy, and it completely knocked me for six.

No cough or cold like symptoms though. Instead it was fever and chills, achy body and couldn't get out of bed for 3 days. Almost 3 weeks later and I'm still not 100%

It's (at least) the 3rd time I've had it, but every other time I've been pretty much asymptomatic

Chicice · 16/09/2023 14:04

I had it 3 weeks ago. Second time, this time much worse, full 5 days in bed with high temp, body aches, chest pain, palpitations, adrenaline rushes, fast pulse, headache, exhaustion and bad nausea.

Still coughing now, took a full 2 weeks to feel well enough to work. Absolutely knocked me for six.

80skid · 16/09/2023 14:12

Was it detected on an old test? I need to test today and have done tests in the cupboard but I was told you need a new test for the newer variants.

cptartapp · 16/09/2023 14:19

Just tested negative today after six days of it, three spent in bed. Very unpleasant, and unfortunately was on a flight the day before it started.
DH has it too.

Cherrypickup · 16/09/2023 14:21

Get well soon everyone. Sounds horrible

LifeInTheUK · 16/09/2023 14:23

Covid never left. It was always there.

It also damages the immune system and doesn’t clear from the body. So further infections get worse.

I hope you’ll get better soon. It’s crap.
Don’t push yourself too much. And give yourself time to recover. You really don’t want to end up with LC. It’s even more crap (talking from experience there)

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 16/09/2023 14:24

I had it in July. Felt quite mild. Now I’ve got horrific long Covid.

I was wondering the same. Is the new strain detectable on original tests?

tolookonthebrightside · 16/09/2023 14:33

The 2 lines came up for me instantly, and they are really dark red. Worse thing for me is the jaw/tooth ache. Sorry to hear everyone had been suffering.

Masks are back at our local hospital.

Chocolatesandroses · 16/09/2023 14:36

A few kids in my daughters school have it

The nasal tests are not picking up a lot if the cases. I’ve seen numbers around 40% of cases are false negative. As far as I know there are no new tests though….

When you test, you can get a better result by swabbing the throat, cheeks and nose. You can also test your stools (not in the same test lol)

Growlybear83 · 16/09/2023 14:39

This new strain seems to be much worse than over the last 18 months or so. I feel there's a bit of a sense of panic about getting people vaccinated quickly. I've had several messages already telling me to book my booster, and the pharmacy asked me if I've booked an appointment when I went in on Thursday. A doctor and nurse were vaccinating all the residents at May mother in law's care home this morning which struck me as a bit unusual on a Saturday.

Cantstandpowerpoints · 16/09/2023 14:41

Out of interest what is the reasoning behind people testing? This is not intended to be inflammatory.

Most of us are continuing to work/ shop etc if we feel under the weather but have no choice (possibly masked) obviously if you’re knocked off your feet then no.

I’ve got a sore throat and headache today, similar to how I felt when I had covid. Usually visit my elderly parents but have given it a miss regardless of what it is as I wouldn’t want to pass anything nasty on, covid or not.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 16/09/2023 14:41

Meh, just felt like a bad cold. I took one day off work, and then wfh a further 4 days. Fell poorly on the Sunday evening, tested positive Wednesday and then negative on the Friday.

The stomach bug I recently had was way worse.

Umanresources · 16/09/2023 14:41

Tested positive a couple of weeks ago. 1st time I had it. Couldn’t get out of bed for 5 days. Horrendous headache, joint pain, nausea, fever, the lot. Awful unfortunate accident when I sneezed in bed. I was mortified and my poor DP had to clean up after me. Negative now, but still got awful head cold and exhausted. Sleeping on and off for about 12 hours day and night. Partner and adult daughter both had it but seem to have recovered well.

LifeInTheUK · 16/09/2023 14:48

@Cantstandpowerpoints the logic behind testing hasn’t changed.

You might want to know you have covid in case you develop LC. Otherwise how will you know?
Some people will need to know to be able to take antivirals/protect themselves from LC.
People might want to protect others, who are immunocomprised, older, pregnant etc etc.l

Basically fur exactly the same reasons why you would walk around with a child with chickenpox whose spots haven’t scabbed yet. It’s just that CP is visible whereas covid isn’t so you need a test to confirm.

Dh used a really old test, came up almost instantly.

Some people are eligible for treatment if they have a known case of covid.

Some people have health conditions and/or medication which are affected if you have covid, or a known illness. For example I have to stop one of my medications if I have an illness such as covid, flu, pneumonia, etc.

Some people have family members who are particularly vulnerable and have to be a little more cautious if feeling under the weather.

Anecdotally I know of three adults, all generally healthy with no underlying health issues, who have had covid in the past fortnight. All have been ill enough to have needed time off work resting, unable to do much for 3 or 4 days at least,

Good, they should never have stopped.

Archymum · 16/09/2023 14:52

One of the reasons it's hitting people harder this time is because a lot of people haven't had a booster in more than 18 months. The government is absolutely throwing everyone under the bus because they won't offer boosters to anyone who wants one.

Cantstandpowerpoints · 16/09/2023 14:54

@LifeInTheUK
@Qilin

Thankyou for some insight 😊

I have always thought that you should steer clear of vulnerable loved ones even before Covid if you were unwell. The other reasons make sense.

This describes how I feel right now, the aching teeth, headache, blocked/runny nose, I didn't think of Covid.
