I've got COVID and it's so much worse than last time - achy joints, sore teeth & gums, headache, cold, chills .... horrible. Anyone else?

Two weeks ago for the first time, felt like I'd been hit by a bus! Sore through, terrible cough, temperature, alternating between shivering and sweating, muggy head and so very, very tired. Worst of the symptoms lasted about 3 days, gradually eased off (but I still have the cough).

What are the rules with staying off work now? I work in close contact with children but my understand is we now don’t stay off - it doesn’t seem right to me but I don’t think I’d be allowed to ring in sick if I feel well enough to work?

When I was working in a school recently, the rules were that you came in if you felt well enough to work and self certified as sick if you needed a few days off. Same with flu. I wouldn't go in with flu or Covid even if I felt ok as not reasonable to infect other people, in my opinion.

ShadyPaws · 17/09/2023 14:33

My dad has just been for his vaccine - no risk factors except age - and said it was heaving. He waited an hour to get his!

I've not been able to book yet and I'm immunocompromised Confused

Londontown12 · 17/09/2023 14:37

Just tested positive this morning thought I had sore throat but head is banging I’m aching as well and teeth pain I’m immune compromised so hense testing staying in now til I test negative! Has my booster late this spring so middle of June which I’m happy about ! X

megletthesecond · 17/09/2023 14:41

Globe and many of us want to spend money on a covid jab, but the government won't do it and prefer people to be off work ill.
I've got my paid flu jab this week. I just don't have time to be ill.

Rockbird · 17/09/2023 14:44

Found some tests and yep, it's Covid. Fabulous.

MapleSyrupWaffles · 17/09/2023 14:48

there are some MPs who are calling for the booster to be offered to 50-64 year olds, mainly to protect the economy I think, but so far nothing has changed in the plans for over 65s only. I wonder how likely it is that they will change plan over the next few weeks?

You might be able to pay for boosters from next year, apparently, can't remember where I read that, but one of the news outlets.

Tessiebeare · 17/09/2023 14:49

I’ve just got it again after only having it 3 weeks ago 😭. I’m not surprised as it’s rife in the wards I work on but I’m pregnant and it’s a bit of a worry that we aren’t even in winter yet and I’ve already had it twice this year.

Rightthere · 17/09/2023 15:00

@Growlybear83 , I can’t remember if it was Autumn 2021 or 2022, but my GP did mass vaccinations one weekend.

It was cheerful as everyone was queuing up with good humour and there was a man I’d never seen before wandering round with something like “Practice Manager” on a hi-vis vest. It wasn’t clear what he was doing.

If you chose to have both vaccinations, as most did, it was one in each arm. First one, then another room and a different member of staff for the second.

Growlybear83 · 17/09/2023 15:02

Thank you Righthere, that's really helpful. I've had lymph nodes removed from one arm and so can't have any type of inoculations etc on that side, so it looks as though I will definitely need to have them done separately.

weirdoboelady · 17/09/2023 15:03

Yep. My first time on this merry go round.

Very mild, streaming nose, occasional cough and upset tummy (with a tendency to vomit but only while I am pooing - it seems to upset the whole system). I always wear a mask on public transport and inside shops, but tested because I have a vulnerable DH. In/on bed for last 2 days but the main reason for that is to get some extra sleep and isolate. I feel perfectly capable of working, but can't as it involves visiting shops. May do a brief shop visit on Wednesday (after 5 days' isolation) but actually suspect I should isolate for longer (but of course I will wear an FP2 mask, as I always do. And I'll drive to the venue rather than taking public transport).

I don’t know that they definitely had to be in different arms. If there’s a reason why only one arm can be used perhaps they can both be done at the same time.

Helpusg · 17/09/2023 15:08

I’ve got it for the very first time. Fever, sore throat, cough, but not too bad.

Covidia · 17/09/2023 15:13

Cantstandpowerpoints · 16/09/2023 14:41

Out of interest what is the reasoning behind people testing? This is not intended to be inflammatory.

Most of us are continuing to work/ shop etc if we feel under the weather but have no choice (possibly masked) obviously if you’re knocked off your feet then no.

I’ve got a sore throat and headache today, similar to how I felt when I had covid. Usually visit my elderly parents but have given it a miss regardless of what it is as I wouldn’t want to pass anything nasty on, covid or not.

My whole family, including children, are vulnerable. We need to know what we’re dealing with fast.

piscofrisco · 18/09/2023 15:13

I've got it for the third time. The first time was a breeze, the second time, at Easter I've never felt so ill and I've still got tinnitus from it. Terrified it will be that bad again as I've just started a new job and don't want to have to be sick for any length of time.

Currently feeling feverish, achey, energy less and a bit spaced out-and upset stomach. Plus a charming tooth ache on top. Brilliant.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 18/09/2023 17:36

Just tested positive, feel like shit and am in bed 🙄

TrumpetOfTheMatriarchy · 18/09/2023 17:58

Tested positive yesterday. 4/5 of us have it
So achey and tired and vomiting yesterday. Hallucinating last night that I was in labour as my back was so sore. Third time for me.

When DH & I got Flu & Booster last Autum/Winter the nurse said have them on the same arm, why have two possible sore arms afterwards.
I would get them both at the same time. 👍

Underthemagnificentbeechtree · 18/09/2023 18:36

My 8 year old tested positive after asking to be tested as he felt like he had Covid (we had it in January) - the rest of us are negative so far and I’m trying to keep my 11 year old (new Year 7) negative so he doesn’t have time off sick. Last time we had it he was fainting and having awful headaches for a month afterwards, not great at any time but a totally rubbish start at a new school - one to avoid if at all possible!

Newperson4 · 18/09/2023 19:08

I’ve never had it before but tested positive for it this morning, the line came up on the test instantly. Started to feel crap on Friday, tired and just off, since then I’ve had awful body aches right down to my knuckles, shivers that come and go and all round feeling weird. I’ve been in bed all weekend, can’t stop sleeping.

You should be able to today, @ShadyPaws. Good luck.

AutumnCrow · 18/09/2023 19:23

Growlybear83 · 16/09/2023 15:33

Yes that's a fair point. Maybe once again the government isn't properly prepared and there is a shortage of vaccine? Perhaps they will extend the age range for boosters once the groups who are currently eligible have had their vaccinations.

On a slightly different point, my pharmacy wants to give me my flu jab at the same time as COVID when I have my booster on Monday. Am I being silly being a bit concerned about the strain this would put on my immune system? I've had a flu jab for the last 25 years, so will still get it done in a couple of weeks. If you have both jabs at the same time, do they out them in the same arm or do they put one in each?

I wouldn't have them on the same day, no, but DSD and DP did and they gave them one in each arm.

I've had my immune-suppressant injection today, and I'm having a flu jab tomorrow, so will try and time my covid booster (covid jab #7, I think) for late next week, if that makes sense?

Then it's immune-suppressant injection again the following week ...

ShadyPaws · 18/09/2023 20:06

@AutumnCrow I did! Not sure if they're also doing flu vaccines so I'll ask when I go
My last covid one was June

fairyfluf · 18/09/2023 20:09

Tbh I'd stagger flu and covid vaccinations if possible. They both made me feel awful so I'd dread to think what would happen if I had both St the same time
