COVID is back ...

I've got COVID and it's so much worse than last time - achy joints, sore teeth & gums, headache, cold, chills .... horrible. Anyone else?

I have always thought that you should steer clear of vulnerable loved ones even before Covid if you were unwell.

Yes but you wouldn’t stay at home and clear of vulnerable people (why just the vulnerable loved ones?) if you have a cold.
And fir many people, covid looks like cold. Sometimes like an allergy/hay fever.

If you dont test, how will you know?

D3LAN3Y · 16/09/2023 15:04

DH works in a control room. Covid has made a come back, just a matter of time before it circulates as one has it.

Cantstandpowerpoints · 16/09/2023 15:05

@LifeInTheUK
I wouldn’t stay at home no, but I most definitely would stay clear of vulnerable people if I had a cold. It could be a virus that could turn nasty for some, and I wouldn’t want to give my elderly parents a nasty cold at their age either. In fact, it’s always been a pet hate of mine when people say, visited my home with sick children for example saying not to worry it’s only a cold. Why would you do that? Maybe it’s just me…

Notonthestairs · 16/09/2023 15:06

We have covid at the moment.

We test because we have vulnerable family members. I think we steer clear for longer than we would do without testing. I'm much less ill now but probably still mildly infectious.

LifeInTheUK · 16/09/2023 15:13

@Cantstandpowerpoints how will you know that person is vulnerable when you are at next to them on the train/wait in the queue at the supermarket etc…?

I know what you are saying about not staying at home. And wanting to protect your loved ones at the same time.

But as it’s very visible on covid threads recently, more and more people get LC (or accept they have it etc….). I did.
And for me LC means being housebound - aka I’m living my life with more restriction to where I go than we had during lockdowns. It’s the case fir many people.

So I have to say thinking that people (in general, not you in particular) care enough for their loved ones but care so little for everyone else that they are happy to infect them is…. Well very hard to swallow.

juggleit · 16/09/2023 15:18

Third time I've had it and very different from before - I felt terrible with an awful headache/the sneezing was something else!! and really aching body - no temperature though. Went to my bed for 2 days 😩

Cantstandpowerpoints · 16/09/2023 15:19

@LifeInTheUK
of course I care about people in the queue next to me! But you just can’t stay in for the next x years whether it be covid or a bad cold.

The rhetoric that some people are just happy to potentially kill others is damaging and unfair, but people have to work, shop, travel etc.

Covidwoes · 16/09/2023 15:20

Fourth time here! No fever this time. Am exhausted though and keep feeling sick (definitely not pregnant!). DH and youngest DD also have it, and youngest DD is just so emotional.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 16/09/2023 15:22

I feel there's a bit of a sense of panic about getting people vaccinated quickly. I've had several messages already telling me to book my booster, and the pharmacy asked me if I've booked an appointment when I went in on Thursday.

@Growlybear83

If this is the case, and it is generally worse than the infections people have been getting over the past 18 months, I wonder why they have decided not to give the booster to those in the 50-64 age bracket this Autumn ?

Cantstandpowerpoints · 16/09/2023 14:41

Out of interest what is the reasoning behind people testing? This is not intended to be inflammatory.

Most of us are continuing to work/ shop etc if we feel under the weather but have no choice (possibly masked) obviously if you’re knocked off your feet then no.

I’ve got a sore throat and headache today, similar to how I felt when I had covid. Usually visit my elderly parents but have given it a miss regardless of what it is as I wouldn’t want to pass anything nasty on, covid or not.

I test if I have COVID-type symptoms mainly because my husband is clinically vulnerable, and also visits his 93 year old mother, who has multiple health vulnerabilities a couple of times every week. But I also spend a fair bit of my work time in meetings in small enclosed rooms with around 15 people, and I have no idea about any possible health issues they or their family members may have. I think it's just common decency to test yourself if you feel unwell and are mixing with others.

Globe22 · 16/09/2023 15:26

Why are they not vaccinating 50-64 year olds? Money!

Personally I tested because I was invited to attend a birthday party for an elderly relative.

I work from home full time, so if I didn't have plans with someone vulnerable I probably wouldn't have tested.

SauronsArsehole · 16/09/2023 15:26

I’m sick but not sure with what. Cough and slightly sore throat. Fuzzy head and blocked ear for the last couple of days and tired as fuck. Yesterday afternoon the arse water started so I’m on the sofa. Drinking a fuck ton of dioralyte.

I work with kids so it could be anything or multiple things like freshers flu and eating something a bit iffy for my IBS or it could be covid.

hoping I’m well enough by Monday because I can’t afford to not work right now.

Nomoremarchingtalcumpowder · 16/09/2023 15:27

I suspect I've got it. Migraine, then headache chills nausea. Jaw and teeth pain feels like the after effect of rubbing coke on your gums. Coughing.

Gingernaut · 16/09/2023 15:30

Covid never left and is now endemic

It will always be with us, like rhinoviruses (common colds), noroviruses (spectacular D&V) and influenza

Rotating, mutating and reinfecting - over and over again

TheYearOfSmallThings · 16/09/2023 15:32

We are seeing an increase in positives on the routine staff testing at work (hospital) but the symptoms are as before, in most cases mild or none noted.

Yes that's a fair point. Maybe once again the government isn't properly prepared and there is a shortage of vaccine? Perhaps they will extend the age range for boosters once the groups who are currently eligible have had their vaccinations.

On a slightly different point, my pharmacy wants to give me my flu jab at the same time as COVID when I have my booster on Monday. Am I being silly being a bit concerned about the strain this would put on my immune system? I've had a flu jab for the last 25 years, so will still get it done in a couple of weeks. If you have both jabs at the same time, do they out them in the same arm or do they put one in each?

PeopleAreWeird · 16/09/2023 15:33

It never left 🤦🏻‍♀️

Its a new variant that is spreading fast and its been spreading for atleast 6 weeks

VeronicaSawyer89 · 16/09/2023 15:36

I've just gotten over it. 2 weeks of feeling like complete and utter shit.

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 16/09/2023 15:36

The common cold originated in the 1918 flu pandemic and we've not been able to find a cure or way of getting ridding of it. 100 people a day are dying with COVID now. Get vaccinated if you're offered it.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 16/09/2023 15:48

The common cold has been around for thousands of years.

tolookonthebrightside · 16/09/2023 15:57

I meant Covid's back for ME - not generally!! I know it's never left Confused

Had it a couple of weeks back.

Early 30s, very fit and healthy, and it completely knocked me for six.

No cough or cold like symptoms though. Instead it was fever and chills, achy body and couldn't get out of bed for 3 days. Almost 3 weeks later and I'm still not 100%

It's (at least) the 3rd time I've had it, but every other time I've been pretty much asymptomatic

Same for me last week apart from never had it before to my knowledge.

ShortColdandGrey · 16/09/2023 16:02

Covid never went away. We had it end of July/early August. Wasn’t a great way to spend my annual leave 😂

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 16/09/2023 16:04

Yes, people DO avoid spreading colds to vulnerable people.
