I've got COVID and it's so much worse than last time - achy joints, sore teeth & gums, headache, cold, chills .... horrible. Anyone else?

A friend tested positive at the beginning of last week and has had fever, lethargy no sense of smell and is still coughing and lethargic now. A work colleague tested positive earlier this week and went home for a couple of days so just waiting to see if it spreads now! Feel totally unenergetic today but that could be more to do with a day of chores. Wish there was something which prevented picking it up! (all vaccinated at work)

Umanresources · 16/09/2023 19:06

I forgot about the loss of taste and smell, which haven’t come back fully. Used an old test and it showed up almost straight away. We tested because DP and daughter mainly work from home, but had to have time off work and couldn’t go into the office. I was very worried because I do have underlying health conditions and found that I did have breathing problems for a couple of days but I was desperate not to go to hospital!

piscofrisco · 16/09/2023 19:16

I'm terrified of getting it again. I had it at Easter and I've never been so ill. I've still got tinnitus from it. I really don't want to go through it again :(
Hope everyone with it feels better soon.

Archymum · 16/09/2023 19:30

If people are terrified of getting Covid again, they should be wearing FFP3 masks indoors. Full stop. I see almost nobody wearing them but it's the simplest thing you can do to protect yourself in the face of a government that doesn't give a flying f....

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 16/09/2023 19:32

I’m terrified of getting it again. Have long Covid and it’s horrific. How can a brain be tired? How can 5 steps exhaust me?

Im not mixing indoors this winter.

usernother · 16/09/2023 19:43

I don't understand your post. Covid has never gone away, it will always be here. I'm not wearing a mask and will carry on with my life as before.

LuluBlakey1 · 16/09/2023 19:51

Can you pay to have a booster?

Notonthestairs · 16/09/2023 19:51

Nobody's asked you to wear a mask.

The Op was referring to her getting covid again. Which you'd know if you'd at least read the Ops posts.

I haven't seen it offered anywhere. I'm sure last year there were emails from pharmacies. Maybe they are low on stock.

I'm fairly certain there isn't the option to pay for a booster - I think they will only be given to vulnerable groups and over 65s for now.

I know that and my reply was to ask why she was surprised that she'd got it. The mask mention was in reply to replies about wearing masks.

Notonthestairs · 16/09/2023 21:07

The reference to masks were for those posters concerned about catching it again. There are a multitude of reasons why they might be concerned.

You aren't. So it didn't apply to you as you well know.

I’ve got it currently / at least for the 2nd, if not 3rd time as first was pre-testing.
Started w sudden high temp for about 12 hours, now I’ve got a really snotty nose and feel a bit rough, def not as bad as last time. Having it last year kicked off all my gut issues - hopefully this bout won’t aggravate things further as I’ve come a long way in 12 months.

Boredofmyguts · 17/09/2023 10:40

Re tests, like last time the throat one showed up when nasal didn’t!

No, you've never been able to pay for a Covid vaccination. It's given on the basis of need.

SnapdragonToadflax · 17/09/2023 10:46

How long ago did everything who has it now last have it? I'm still having ear problems after having it last at Easter.

Can't avoid it as I have a small child who will bring it home from school.

Boredofmyguts · 17/09/2023 10:49

I had it (prob) March 2020
then July 22
And now.I had my booster last winter too (over 50).

dd had it Oct 2020 and again two weeks ago

pintsizeprincess · 17/09/2023 10:57

I tested positive on Wednesday after feeling head cold symptoms for a day or so. This is the 3rd time I've had covid and definitely the worst . I've been in bed alot, chills, the body aches are something else. Even my fingers are aching!. Sneezing, upset tummy , banging headache. I'm slowly starting to feel better but so exhausted. We've been testing if we have symptoms as mother in law is terminally ill so we have to be careful re visiting etc.

Rockbird · 17/09/2023 11:31

I'm feeling rotten at the moment and was wondering if it's Covid. I work in a school and was sitting next to a child for a period of time the other day who subsequently tested positive and her whole family had it.

I want to know if it is as I wouldn't be very popular in work with it. No tests here though.

spanieleyes · 17/09/2023 11:42

We have half the teaching staff off with covid at the moment, it's a nightmare because, despite being no mandatory absence required they are all so ill they can't be in school whether they test or not!
And we've only been back a week!

Twiglets1 · 17/09/2023 12:20

My husband got a Covid booster last week. But only because he works for the NHS not because he’s 62.
It’s 65 and overs now who get offered one.

Tellerium · 17/09/2023 12:24

Cantstandpowerpoints · 16/09/2023 14:41

Out of interest what is the reasoning behind people testing? This is not intended to be inflammatory.

Most of us are continuing to work/ shop etc if we feel under the weather but have no choice (possibly masked) obviously if you’re knocked off your feet then no.

I’ve got a sore throat and headache today, similar to how I felt when I had covid. Usually visit my elderly parents but have given it a miss regardless of what it is as I wouldn’t want to pass anything nasty on, covid or not.

I haven’t been poorly for over a year (and still never had symptomatic Covid, last year turned out to be tonsillitis) but I’d test out of curiosity only.

Yes I'm a teacher!

Rulesrules · 17/09/2023 12:30

I work in a care home and they brought the vaccinations forward rather urgently.
Hardly any staff felt happy having though this time.
