Does anyone know what this rash is?

I washed my hair this morning and I found this rash on the base of my neck. It looks like the rash goes up into my scalp too but I don't have it on the top of my head.

Psorsis runs in the family and I did have that before as a teenager and I had patches of it before so I am wondering if this is psorsis. Or if it's something else like a fungal infection.

I have ringworm on the inside of my leg but I was very careful with it. I don't know if it's ringworm that spread.

I have a hairdressers appointment next week and I do t know of I should cancel. It's not for dye or colour but for wash and cut.
If it is ringworm I will be so embarrassed during a hairdressers appointment.

We need a picture OP.

Stratocumulus · 09/08/2023 10:53

Ooops, sorry. Just caught up with the pic.

Scousemousey · 09/08/2023 10:57

That looks very dry. Is it itchy? Could it be a reaction to your shampoo?

Funco · 09/08/2023 10:58

This is a picture of the side of my head from a neck view. It looks like it does into into the scalp but I can't see any red patches on the top of my head.

It's not itchy or sore. I just saw it by accident.

If it's a reaction to the shampoo, surely it would be all over. The areas on my head above my ears are very sensitive to dryness but I don't have any red patches there. I can only find these red patches on my neck and clearly at the base of the scalp.

Sweat rash? Have you been going to bed with wet hair? I think personally I’d cancel the appointment until I got it under control just to not aggravate it more. Does look like psoriasis or a sweat rash/shampoo reaction. Looks sore I’d pop to a chemist first then the dr depending on the outcome

Funco · 09/08/2023 11:01

I don't know if I should be going to the doctor with this.

I don't know if I should be going to the doctor with this.

I’d pop to the chemist for some advice they’ll likely know what it is and can perhaps give a topical cream or direct you to the Dr if it needs a prescription.

Belladonna56 · 09/08/2023 11:03

Have you been wearing a new necklace or pendant?

Funco · 09/08/2023 11:03

I'm definitely not going to bed with wet hair because I am looking after my hair and that's a bad hair habit.

Actually it could possibly be a sweat rash. I wore my oddie robe over the weekend and went to bed in it and I did feel very warm in it upon waking.

No, I am not wearing any jewellery.

My money is on ringworm. Looks the same as my son had on his upper back/neck. Usually get it where there are warm patches.

BillyBraggisnotmylover · 09/08/2023 11:13

Are there blisters to the right there? Could it be shingles?

Funco · 09/08/2023 11:18

I don't want to go to my local pharmacy where I know a lot of the ladies working there and there's no private room. I will have to go into the city on Saturday to visit a pharmacy where I am not known.

Oh god, I hope not.

I suppose my best bet is to make an appointment with my doctor.

I see what you see now. I had a feel but I can't establish if there's blisters or not. There's a bumpy area but that's it.

I think I would go to the doctor as I had a rash that appeared from nowhere on my legs then spread to my arms. The pharmacist didn't know what it was so I ended up having to go to the doctor.

Do you know what your rash was?

I think I and some level of redness on my scalp before now but it's more pronounced now. I dont think it's a new rash spreading from elsewhere in the body.

I hand some level of ringworm on my inside leg all summer.

I like wearing wool hats and maybe it's a sweat rash from the wool but I don't have it on the top of my head or scalp.

Sorry to suggest but could it be headlice? I remember when I had them as a child I had a rash in the same place

Oldermum84 · 09/08/2023 11:40

My son has had ringworm, it doesn't look like that - the patches were round. He had something like this separately on his chest and the doctor said it was eczema. He suggested Aveeno moisturiser which cleared it up and we've continued to use - hasn't come back.

hedgehoglurker · 09/08/2023 11:51

In case it is allergy, I'd try a non-drowsy antihistamine in the meantime, such as cetirizine/ loratadine once daily.
