For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

We call the buttons the turner-overer machine. DD1 invented the phrase.

FrayedKnot · 22/02/2008 21:55

I would sleep with Rob Newman

Tatties · 22/02/2008 21:57

I like David Baddiel

MrsCarrot · 22/02/2008 21:58

Maybe. Quaint is good isn't it? I like buttons, the word and the object. I still lament the loss of a 1920's sparkly shoe button that I foolishly let DD play with. I bought it in Camden. Just the one.

FrannyandZooey · 23/02/2008 08:42

we used to call remote controls 'the god box'. That'a a bit wanky isn't it? We don't have any now [pious]

How can you like David Baddiel? Jeez, Tatties, this always appals me.

I would rather have George than Brad I think. But I think George is probably gay, isn't he, which could put a downer on things possibly?

Bee there is kicking. Is nice.

Am eating banana, raisins, grapes, melon x 2. That's 5 just for breakfast. Can I have a sticker?

Moderately passable mango for breakfast, though a little hard on one side. Munting mango maybe.

We are off to Canterbury, probably the last time to see DH's family home as it's being sold. Has been empty for two years now so it's time really. Then we are going to stay in London tonight ready for museums and tea. Bye.

MrsCarrot · 23/02/2008 08:46

I call it the remote control or the remote for short. Perhaps I am lacking in imagination.

FrannyandZooey · 23/02/2008 08:48

Oh are you staying tonight as well MrsC? Have a good time and I hope Canterbury is not too emotional

Bbbee · 23/02/2008 09:03

oh yes you are meeting tommorrow aren;t you - how wonderful.

I stand by my david baddiel comment - but i was a young impressionable thing when he was doing the circuits all floppy haired and contraversial - I have not got over it.

Okay - porridge for breakfast and will have orange later. Am toying with going to waitrose nice greengrocers to get some really lovely fruit today.

Going to make a bean stew today. Am anticipating it will be unpopular.

Boco · 23/02/2008 09:26

Inlaws arriving in about ten minutes. Am in pyjamas surrounded by mess.

While I was not concentrating the girls made a treasure hunt for the cat by hiding bits of catfood around the house. The cat is not interested and does not understand the clues so my first job is persuade them to uncover their secret locations - or sniff it out by myself.

Bbbee · 23/02/2008 10:06

hope you are dressed and tidy boco. Sorry but I did find the cat food thing quite funny - I do so like you dds!

Boco · 23/02/2008 10:12

Dressed but not tidy and hopefully most of the catfood found. DD2 was showing Stella the cat a picture of her bed that she'd drawn - I know it was her bed because she gave her an extra clue because Stella wasn't looking directly at the page. She said 'i give a clue, it is my Buh Guh Duh and that spells BED'. Ran up quickly to discover dry cat food on her pillow! Rah!

They've just had a hilarious conversation about the spider on the wall - arguing about how it can stay on the wall. Dd is shouting 'sticky POWERS'. DD1 is getting cross and saying 'no, it is not sticky powers, it's something we just don't know about quite yet!'.

ahundredtimes · 23/02/2008 10:35

Oh goodness the in-laws. Have you prepared suspicious vegetables for them again? I like that you do that.

I am becoming quite addicted to the walking. I think I'm turning into a dog. I woke up and thought 'I want to go to the park' and off we went, further and further, wetter and wetter. God it's nice. Also JJ becoming more sociable now, and played lots with the dogs in the park. I have slightly awkward conversations with other dog owners, I take all the praise for JJ and then keep forgetting to praise and admire their dogs. I was like this at M&T's I think.

We are going to do very little today I think, I hope.

Tatties · 23/02/2008 10:51

LOL at Franny being appalled by me

I have prepared sandwiches and fruit for the journey, must dash!

filthymindedvixen · 23/02/2008 11:30

pmsl at the fruit loops UR

I don't get why ther eis such vitriol about this thread? OR WHY cod gets her Gap Knickers in such atwist over it all...
I was on that thread at the beginning but missed it when it all went peach pits up

I think I'm outgrowing MN a tad. I cannot remmeber enough about the early years to give good advice, I keep off threads which are obviously going to kick off as I don't like spiky people in RL so I certainly can't be arsed to deal with them in cyber space; and many of the topics recently are too groundhog day to bother with.
But I do like to come on here and chew the fat. I suspect it's you lot keeping me here at all!

Off to Northumbria this weekend for sister's 50th bash (sans children and dh) Have just found out that all guests are in couples bar me and a 70-yr-old rich letch...could be interesting

filthymindedvixen · 23/02/2008 11:31

hope everyone has a great weekend and safe travels...

anorak · 23/02/2008 14:12

I am feeling all well as I have recovered from the last lot of chemo and don't have any more for a couple of days yet. So I have invited some people to dinner to try and make friends (I am billy-no-mates as have spent my first 3 months in Bermuda buying and sewing labels on school uniforms, furnishing the house, and going back and forth to the hospital)

We are having antipasto to start, with cured Italian meats, smoked salmon, prawns, olives, roasted mixed peppers, mushrooms a la greque, shallots cooked in olive oil and balsamic vinegar, spring onions, cucumber and carrot sticks, grissini and french bread, cherry tomatoes and mini marinaded mozzarella and anything else I can think of from fridge or store cupboard.

Hope to spend an hour lingering over that, then leg of lamb roasted in garlic, lemon and oregano, potatoes, kale and green beans.

Then chocolate mousse and strawberry cheesecake (made them last night) and cheese and bikkies with grapes.

I have plenty so drop by if you're going past

FrannyandZooey · 23/02/2008 14:24

oh GOD anorak I wish I could drop by

I just had to wrestle ds and dp for the computer
they were watching mountain bike bog-snorkelling on YouTube

OP posts:
anorak · 23/02/2008 14:26

What on earth is mountain bike bog-snorkelling?

Sounds like one of those extreme sports.

Greensleeves · 23/02/2008 14:29

It sounds bloody revolting.

Leek and potato soup for lunch chez Greeny. And now I will munch my way through an infeasibly large pile of oranges.

lullabyloo · 23/02/2008 14:31

hello to everyone who isn't on a lovely weekend jaunt

I am missing my grandmother & ds has packed his little red case full of dinasoars, shells,a tape measure, blue tack, some wooden fruit,a pair of pants & his mouse ..all ready to runaway to live with her

I have to say that I totally get this, having done this many a time when I was a child.
I bought him a second hand bike as way of distraction..but he just cannot, cannot seem to get the peddalling thing. He is so down cast & sad & said his brain doesn't get how to do it.
He is 3.7......he should be able to pedal now right?
Dh is not patient & made comments about him not being agile ..so no he feels incompetant & wants to give the bike away.
He says archaeologists dont use bikes anyway....he is desperate to go on a dig & unearth some dinasoar bones.Does anyone know what the age limit is for the community digs you can join in with?

FrannyandZooey · 23/02/2008 14:32

I don't know what the dickens it is
they were snickering and whooping at it

FrannyandZooey · 23/02/2008 14:33
