Scared. Two week urgent referral

Oneglassisnotenough · 11/05/2023 01:33

I can’t sleep for worry. I have severe anxiety as it is.

I have been referred for the urgent two week cancer pathway. Have had symptoms for a while and an internal scan has found something that doesn’t look good on my ovary.
Got to have blood tests for tumour markers on Friday. Dr sounded very serious when she called me today and apologised for telling me over the phone but due to the urgency she said that she had to. I’m seeing her tomorrow.

Please can someone hold my hand.

Thank you for the handholds .

I just keep thinking today is today etc. one day at a time. That’s all I can do.

I am refusing to think about it too deeply . Or even really at all.

Honestly . It doesn’t sound great does it?

Wishing you all the best, such an awful worry

thethoughtofgettingout · 13/05/2023 21:03

It's impossible to keep calm in this situation OP, but I wanted to tell you about my experience which may reassure you whilst you wait.

I had 10cm x 12cm cyst/mass on my ovary causing pain; I had an ultrasound & suddenly I was seen by oncologist gynaecologist & was being referred to local cancer hospital.
The mass/cyst was complex with solid features, etc. Cancer marker was in the hundreds & it was all very serious. I was absolutely knocked sideways by it.

It turned out to be an endometrioma - I didn't even know I had endometriosis which was adhered to my uterus, Fallopian tubes, bowel, etc.

I had a total hysterectomy & BSO but this was because of other gyno issues as well.
I wasn't given the all clear until biopsy done after surgery, but thankfully it wasn't cancer.

Obviously your results may be different, but equally you may have an experience like me.

I have everything crossed for you OP.
I really understand how truly dreadful this feels & all the worst case scenarios that keep you awake at night.
Ask GP for something to help with anxiety whilst you wait for appointment.
I'll be thinking about you x

Did you have any symptoms that caused you
to be scanned? If you don’t mind me asking x

Likethestarsabove547 · 13/05/2023 21:04

Dropping in for a handhold, fingers crossed for positive news. I know the wait is awful but it really does sound like youve got a very good and proactive gp which is as rare as gold dust these days!

My periods were a bit irregular, some clotting and occasional bleeding after or during sex. As well: random pains in my abdomen and also urgently needing to pee.

All there but nothing major really . Quite sporadic.
I also don’t really have an appetite and get full very quickly. I’ve noticed this for a while but just thought it was my age or due to anxiety ( I have very bad anxiety ).

OP posts:
Robotik · 13/05/2023 21:23

I see! I think all of those could easily be attributed to age couldn’t they. I feel you with the anxiety - I have it bad too. I really feel for you x

CantFindTheBeat · 13/05/2023 21:27

I saw you were worried that it was 'something you'd done' OP.

There is nothing you could have done to cause these symptoms, my love. Thousands of women experience what you describe.

In the majority of cases, the cause turns out to be mundane. In a few, it doesn't.

Whatever the outcome for you, it will be sheer good luck or bad luck. Nothing at all that you've done or haven't.

So put your mind at rest there xxxx

Big cuddles OP xx

Freshfoods · 13/05/2023 21:41

Huge handhold here, I hope you get good news. ♥️

BHRK · 13/05/2023 21:44

one day at a time. The waiting for a diagnosis is the worst. Every minute is a day. Try to stay busy and be nice to yourself. If it is cancer, they will make a very rapid plan to treat you.

SergeiL · 13/05/2023 21:46

Another handhold. Keeping everything crossed for you.

Oneglassisnotenough · 13/05/2023 21:47

Sitting here in tears.

Thank you all for your support and kindness. Means such a lot to me.

Hand hold from me.

I am currently waiting to hear what treatment I will be given for cervical cancer.

Sending hugs

Silkierabbit · 13/05/2023 22:01

So sorry Oneglass I ĥope it turns out OK on Tuesday but if not there's a cancer support thread on here under general health and also fine to PM me. I have breast cancer but also a very anxious person. Best thing to do at moment and easier said than done is distraction, I got through this bit by pretending not happening. In my case they said it was cancer before results. The one good thing about cancer is there is lots of support available and now I am through a years treatment I am less anxious as had to face worst fears.

Letsallgotothebeach · 13/05/2023 22:06

Huge handhold here 💐We're all here with you oneglassisnotenough, keep updating us when you can. We've got everything crossed for Tuesday. Have you got family close by? Or a good support network?

Silkierabbit · 13/05/2023 22:07

So sorry to hear that Redcurl.

This is the cancer support thread which is for anyone with cancer or doing tests for cancer.

MuchuseasaChocolateTeapot · 13/05/2023 22:12

I hope that as you have a cyst on the other ovary perhaps that means you are prone to them and fingers crossed it is an over blown cyst on the other side. (I had one the size of a grapefruit). I’m pleased that the GP/hospital are being so proactive and very sincerely hope for you this turns out to be a scare and will soon be a distant memory. Big hugs x

Lowkeyloopy · 13/05/2023 22:18

Handhold OP. You’re doing brilliantly. Just take it one step at a time.

Beach11 · 13/05/2023 22:29

Fingers crossed for Tues x

glitteropal · 13/05/2023 22:33

@Oneglassisnotenough so sorry you are having to go through this. Please remember as previous PPs have said, everything could be fine, and even if it isn't what you want to hear, treatments have come on leaps and bounds in recent years and you will be in safe hands. Sending you a huge handhold and lots of love 🩷

Objectrelations · 13/05/2023 22:41

Can you do something to keep really busy tomorrow @Oneglassisnotenough ?

Oneglassisnotenough · 14/05/2023 09:27

redheadcurl · 13/05/2023 21:59

Hand hold from me.

I am currently waiting to hear what treatment I will be given for cervical cancer.
