Smelly face on a windy day!

Has anyone experienced this? When most people come in from being out in the wind, their faces have a distinct 'windy smell'. It's not a pleasant smell. Please tell me I'm not the only one that's noticed it?! What is this smell and is there a way to combat it?!

I hate this smell too. Opened my patio door this evening after my windows got steamy and the smell seemed to creep into my kitchen which it never has before, I’ve only ever noticed it on people. It reminds me of damp dog smell. Not nice at all.
Don't like to line dry my clothes either, tried last summer and it just set my hayfever off so had to rewash it all.

PS - Also can’t stand coriander, makes me ill.

Yes a sour metallic smell but only on a cold day not on a warm day

Pollution from wood burners? They don't smell the same as a bonfire. They really stink and it hangs in the air.

The school smell is BO from not showering after PE and not having discovered deoderant yet. Also poverty meaning school shirt gets worn more than once before washing it. Combined with no open windows in classrooms. Plus whatever cheap disinfectant the cleaners are given to swish round at the end of the day.

I believe that smell is ozone. I love that smell. Every time someone comes in smelling of it, it is traditional in my family to say “ooooh you smell all ozoney” while giving them a big sniff.
School smell however is grim. It’s always reminds me of the smell of the art rooms at high school. Powder paints, slightly stagnant water and the mixture of a 1000 different kids 😂
I can’t go near my 12 year old for long until he takes his uniform off.

I've always hated drying my clothes outside because of the smell - I always assumed I was doing it wrong as everyone else raves about how they love the smell of line dried clothes.

I think it's ozone-y too. A bit like when it smells like it's going to snow.

I thought I was the only weirdo who experienced this! I can smell it on my children when they come in from playing outdoors but I like it :)

Ok well I like it and I like coriander. So maybe those who hate coriander also hate fresh air smell??

It's the smell of cold. It's fresh. I Iike it.

Yep dd smells of this when she comes in after being outside in the cold, always has done.
Never in the summer though as that's a more normal fresh/suncream/sweat smell.

Love it 😂 I used to bury my nose in our tabby's fur too. Sometimes though that outdoor smell would be replaced by "old woman" smell, presumably lavender hand lotion. The little traitor...

I love the Cold Smell. Reminds me of my Dad coming in from work and my Grandparents’ outhouse/utility (although the latter was also waxed jackets and hay).

I love the "outside" smell. When we had cats and they came in from outside they used to smell of fresh air as well. I used to bury my face in their fur.

I don't understand why people dislike this smell. It smells "clean".

I have two lovely cats but the thought of burying my face in their fur once they've been outside to get a whiff is absolutely awful to me! Turns my stomach.

School smell I don't think I really get though. I'm not entirely sure what you're all describing, but if anything I think I might like the smell of schools 🤔

Just open the windows (unless you live next to a sewage plant)

It isn't the smell of fresh air though... My windows/doors are open loads. It's a different smell.

It's the human equivalent of wet dog smell I think.

It's a mix of a person's natural odour and air and sweat and heat. I was going to suggest petrichor but someone up thread said they didn't think it was like that so I've decided not mention it 😆

Yes I don't like the windy smell either. It's not just on faces though it clings to clothes and hair
