Smelly face on a windy day!

Has anyone experienced this? When most people come in from being out in the wind, their faces have a distinct 'windy smell'. It's not a pleasant smell. Please tell me I'm not the only one that's noticed it?! What is this smell and is there a way to combat it?!

Sometimes my cats bring it in for me as a gift in winter.

Yup, I smell it too. Not on clothes, on people. I couldn't describe it though.

I have never experienced this! I've kissed people coming from outdoors and never noticed a smell from their faces

This had never crossed my mind as being a 'thing' but yes you are right!! I feel like that smell is stronger when someone comes in on a cold night too.

I’m going to have to start sniffing people on windy days!! I can smell rain or snow coming, but not windy faces.

I can smell outside cold on people's clothes. Didn't think it was their face though.

I live the smell of laundry dried outside. I don't know the smell you describe but I will be sniffing my children next time they've been out to play. Dislike the school smell though, anyone ever noticed that one?

School smell is definitely a thing. It's foul.

Yes cleaning fluid and dread.

Perhaps it's only certain people it affects? Like the whole thing with coriander.

I think it might be like when you eat a lot of sugar and try fruit it tastes bitter. But when you don't eat a lot of sugar, fruit tastes delicious. I think it's the same with those outdoor smells. Soil, rain and spring flowers smell like dishwater compared to the synthetic scents of air fresheners and fabric softeners if you're acclimatised to those smells.

I think it's a 'cold' smell rather than a windy one but agree it's unpleasant. It's not the same as a fresh air smell. Reminds me of when I was a kid and my dad would get home from work, having walked from the train station. Was only in winter that he smelled 'off', never in the summer.

Not convinced at all that it's anything to do with synthetic smells. We don't have many in our house now but as a child we really, really didn't have any.

Fascinating. I know a pleasant outdoor smell that my kids have after playing outside, but I've never noticed a specific windy smell. Will have to sniff people...

Oh yes, an outside smell. Teen ds often smells like this after he has come in from a run. Teen dd never does.

I think I must must be nose blind as I can't smell half the smells others do.

What's the coriander thing?

A.certain percentage of people find coriander to taste of soap. My DH is included in that, he claims it ruins anything it's in. It tastes of nothing/coriander to me. It's a genetic thing.

On the flip side I have massive issues with misophonia and especially food sounds, which he claims not to hear 🤯

Is it a slightly metallic smell?

Yes a sour metallic smell but only on a cold day not on a warm day .
